That's hilarious. Sounds like a good candidate for the Darwin award; but Greeson died outside the building. Perhaps one could make the case that the general turmoil prevented his getting medical help fast enough.
Thank you for challenging me there. I just saw a fact check that the family lawyer is saying the tazing is false. Apparently ALSO, an NYT report was right next to him when he died on the sidewalk from his heart attack.

I appreciate that.

Yeah, you might call that the "God told me to do this" defense. Unfortunately, you could pull stuff out of the Bible to try to prove this; but there is a lot more in there that tends to say you shouldn't commit acts of violence. Ultimately you either have to say the person is insane for believing this or show direct proof that God did actually speak to them and told them unequivocally to do this. Even then, that only lessens culpability.
The big difference is that sometimes "God works in mysterious ways"....but Trump just bloviates and says everything so it's a LOT easier to prove.

OF course Trump critics have been pointing out EXACTLY how his words could be considered to be inciting violence. And then when his supporters incited violence it is expected.

It's the keyboard warriors on here who seem to be ignoring:
1) Trump's words
2) Trump's critics explanations
3) Trump's supporters who perpetrated the insurrection

It's pretty childish if you ask me personally.

No problem. I wasn't trying to be satirical when I said it would be hilarious. I was just thinking "What a Jackass moment". The New York Times was one of the few sources that tried to show the cause of death of all the individuals; but I didn't want to pay for a subscription to get to the article. So most of what I have gleaned is from local reporting from family members. One thing that I find disturbing, though I think I can see the rational, is that the officer that fired the fatal shot that killed Ashlii Babbitt has not been named. The video showing her climbing through a window with no weapons in her hands, the pop pop of the gunshots and her falling back into the crowd is chilling. For all that, I can't condemn the officer for firing. He was put in an impossible situation. He should not be ridiculed for doing his duty. The police investigation cleared him and that should put an end to the story.

Yeah, I was trying to think through how a jury would see this. What type of equation can one use on rhetoric calling for stop the steal, when it is followed by a small print disclaimer to do it peacefully. It would make an interesting trial; but I think it would exhaust this countries dwindling supply of bipartisanship.

That is the real crime happening now. A while back I asked myself the question why anyone would try to tear down one's own country (city, neighborhood, etc.) Then the BLM people tried to come to my peaceful suburb to protest. The people were coming in buses from other cities to do this. It wasn't their town that would get torn up and someone was paying to bus them here. Our police stationed themselves at intersections and closed down all traffic. That proved somewhat effective. The only vandalism was the statue of the only police officer in our town's history to be killed in the line of duty was defaced one night. Hatred in any form is evil; but cannot be fought with more hatred.

I think it's pretty hard to argue if you consider ALL of his communications since the election and not JUST the "speech" on Jan 6 (which just kinda fanned the flames he lit earlier).

93% were peaceful. Most folks did not want violence. I would argue that "most" equals about 99%. Unfortunately, the cops will deal with that 1% in a variety of different ways. I think the cops that successfully deal with that 1% (ie....the cops in your hometown) deserve commendations and the cops who don't deal with it as well, deserve a little look in.

When I started Catholic apologetics I had to quickly learn to stare at the unsavory things that are done by the group you affiliate with and denounce them while trying to balance that equation with the good. I think most Trump supporters are that way. There will be few tears cried for the Capitol rioters in the Republican party. It is just a shame to see the media trying to spin it that way.

Who cares about what what Florida GOP thinks? Why should you care unless you are a Republican from Florida?
Because it's hilariously dillusional representation of the party and a nice distillation of the Trump supporter ethos.

It would be nice to know that these good folk are living in the same political reality as the vast majority of us currently share, otherwise how’re we going to successfully engage with them?

Donald Trump has defended some of his supporters who rioted at the US Capitol on 6 January, saying they posed “zero threat” to the lawmakers who had assembled there to certify the electoral college vote that confirmed Joe Biden’s election victory.

After five deaths, extensive criminal damage, nearly three months of work by the FBI and 300 arrests with many more to come Trump still is spinning the tale.
Trump told them what to do . Nothing more. They were obeying Trump. Why wouldn't Trump defend them?

Zero threat to the any non-traitor Trumpites, the same way the brownshirts were no threat to patriots who patriotically turned on traitors to the great leader.

Something that has to be considered ... is that, ultimately, it was the actions of the Capitol police, ... that kept every US lawmaker from harm that day.

Although most of the assembled protestors were peaceful, ... a small minority perpetrated actions ... which showed that they had the potential to inflict harm to certain lawmakers ... if they had gotten their hands on them.

Within any group of that protestors that size, there are protagonists who will go too far ... and will egg the crowd with them to go too far.

This is illustrated in the terrible visuals of the scaling of the Capitol walls, ... and some of the reported defilement of the Capitol premises.

A few of the protestors brought firepower.

A few of the the protestors were responsible for the deaths and injuries of Capitol defenders that day.

A few of the protestors would have, likely, gone beyond the true wishes of the crowd ... if they had gotten their hands on Pence, or Pelosi, or AOC, ... or Rep. Omar, etc.

These kind of things can get out of hand pretty easily. It just takes one (or more) crackpots. And there were a few crackpots present that day.

You should check on that. Regardless of what Trump said, there was threat in actual reality, and even though Trump didn't say to 'hang Mike Pence ' or such, some were chanting that, and some searched for Pence.
... and searched for Pelosi, and, likely, AOC, ... and any other US legislator with whom they found offense.

It is the miracle of the day (accomplished by the Capitol police present) that the Capitol intruders didn't happen up on Pence ... or Romney, ... who missed confrontations by mere seconds ...

In other words, he knows how to walk a fine line to defend his fascistic supporters with a lot of plausible deniability, knowing that facing accountability for his actions will more than likely not take place.

"Good people on both sides" and "We're going to the Capitol to fight like hell" mean what they say.

He whitewashed what they did and lied about the threat they posed. While he didn't say that it was all okay, his comments were still a defense of their actions.

At this point, it's pretty clear that the Trump wing of the Republican party is little more than an abusive, manipulative cult.

You are as entitled to your opinion as Trump is to his but neither of you are empowered to make anyone believe your opinions are facts.

I would turn that right back at you, since iluvatar is stating fact. You are stating opinion without facts.
