They are all using that defense now:
Sidney Powell Admits She Lied About Dominion Voting Machines Hack

In her motion to get the $1.3 billion lawsuit against her dismissed, Sidney Powell admitted that she lied about Dominion voting machines being hacked.

This was in Powell’s motion for dismissal:
...
"Analyzed under these factors, and even assuming, arguendo, that each of the statements alleged in the Complaint could be proved true or false, no reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact."

Dominion Voting Systems is suing MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, Rudy Giuliani, and Sidney Powell for pushing the lie that the voting machines were hacked by Democrats or by China so that Joe Biden could win the election.

Powell is saying that any reasonable person should have known that she was going on television and lying as part of a coup attempt to overturn the election. Since her lies should have been reasonably known to be BS, she should have no legal liability for smearing Dominion.
Sidney Powell Admits She Lied About Dominion Voting Machines Hack

Pretty much the same thing Fox News used to defend themselves for the things Tucker Carlson says. "No reasonable person would believe him."

Supporters of The Big Lie (aka Stolen Election) may choose from the following:

  1. Dominion is the Antichrist!
  2. Powell has sold out!
  3. Powell has been replaced by some Liberal with a face transplant!
  4. Powell has been injected with some brainwashing vaccine that keeps her from telling the truth!
  5. Lizard people!
  6. Q has sold out!
  7. Boogaloo Bois are now the Polka Guys
  8. Proud Boys are now Straight Boys!

Look Sidney, you can't just unrelease the kraken!

But seriously, she's not wrong: no reasonable person would believe those lies. Also she just called a large precent of her supporters and the voting public literal idiots, but I'm sure this revelation will be lost on them.

  • Cleavon Little as Ben Carson
  • Cloris Leachman as Betsy DeVos
  • Harvey Korman as Mike Pence
  • Marty Feldman as Rudy Giuliani
  • Joan Rivers as Sydney Powell

She was doing a scientific experiment to test the hypothesis that some Trumpers are strongly deluded.

Having proven this hypothesis, results will be published in the journal "Nature." We should all be grateful to her.

Didn't she claim that Dominion had hacked the election in her Kraken lawsuits? She can get into serious trouble for that.

Yep. She's being sued for slander. Her defense is "Yes, I lied, but c'mon, who'd be stupid enough to actually believe those stories I was telling?"

While she has a point, I don't think it will save her.

On the other hand, it worked for Fox News when they used that defense to protect Tucker Carlson. The judge agreed that no reasonable person would take Tucker seriously.

Fox News won a court case by 'persuasively' arguing that no 'reasonable viewer' takes Tucker Carlson seriously
A federal judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit against Fox News after lawyers for the network argued that no "reasonable viewer" would take the network's primetime star Tucker Carlson seriously.

I'm skeptical. I don't think there are really as many stupid Trumpers as the polls seem to indicate. They might be just having a little fun with the pollsters. I suspect that a lot of them really know the truth, even if they say different on the poll.

I know if some pollster asked me if I believed in the Easter Bunny, I might yank his chain a little.

Yes, but there can be serious consequences lying to the court. She can potentially face jail time for lying in her filings. This really is loose/loose for her.

Yes, that's possible. I'd have a psychiatric evaluation done on her first, though. Her grip on reality seems to be less than locked in.

The filing is by her attorneys. That means their words are legally her words. Unless she later wants to claim that she, an attorney, was misled by her.... attorneys.

I assume her lawyer is accurately expressing her intent.

While looking around to see if she was contradicting her lawyer, I found something beyond weird.

You know who laid into her for not providing evidence for weird conspiracy claims?

Tucker Carlson.

Yep. Mr. "no reasonable person would take me seriously."

Actually, that's what his employer said about him;he might think otherwise. So maybe he doesn't have much self-awareness. He has no sense of irony, I know that much about him.

If she is so wily and slippery why would they want to assume anything?

I don't think "wily and slippery" applies to a person, who as a lawyer should have known better, decided to publicly slander a corporation she now admits didn't do the things she claimed they did.
