It's not about respect for Biden, it's about respect for the US. We have issues we are not doing great at dealing with. If they call us out, I get it. But, for the record, China is horrible. So, hypocrisy all around, I say.

I don't understand why we came out swinging like that. What is the end game? Are we getting in a fighting stance? I get calling them out on their horrendous human rights violations. But did we think we didn't have any of our own problems, that everyone knows, to address? I don't understand the administration's thinking on this. Virtue signalling? That was a bad idea. What are we trying to do there?
From my half listening, I got the impression from the reporting that they jumped us before we had a chance to state anything.

If true, that is ominous. . .stay tuned.

I suspect it is much bigger than money.

For the Chinese, not for Trump.

WASHINGTON — Threats from China and North Korea will loom large over the Biden administration's first Cabinet-level trip abroad, part of a larger effort to bolster U.S. influence and calm concerns about America's role in Asia.

A senior administration said Saturday that U.S. officials have tried to reach out to North Korea through multiple channels since last month, but have yet to receive a response, making consultations with the reclusive country's neighbors, Japan, South Korea and China, all the more critical.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin are heading to Japan and South Korea for four days of talks starting Monday as the administration seeks to shore up partnerships with the two key regional treaty allies. Blinken and Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, will then meet with senior Chinese officials in Anchorage, Alaska,

Their first official overseas visits are intended to restore what Biden hopes will be a calming and even-keeled approach to ties with Tokyo and Seoul after four years of transactional and often temperamental relations under the previous president, Donald Trump. He had upended diplomatic norms by meeting not once, but three times, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Kim is no fool; he is understandably wary about dealing with Biden. And the Chinese are maybe wishing that they had tried to influence the election after all.

This looks like an ill-advised attempt by the Chinese negotiator to "let them know who's boss." It didn't go very well. That might be a good sign for the future.

The end game is the 2024 election. The GOP has said only they are strong enough to protect us from the evils of China. Biden is trying to prove, "Hey I can be tough, too."

I get it that Chinese human rights violations aren't very nice. But what business is that of ours? I'm tired of our thinking we need to be the global cop.

They weren't strong enough for the American people. So Americans found someone stronger.

I think the Biden camp wanted to get news coverage for looking like they were tuff on China instead they ended up looking like the are fluff on China. Lesson that should be learned, dont bluff about how many black belts in karate you have and then get taken out by the first punch.

China didn't seem to think so. They thought the U.S. was being unreasonably hard on them. And complained bitterly. So maybe it depends on whether or not one is on the receiving end of the stick.
