HI all

Allow me to introduce myself. I am 57 years old, married and a former runner. Up to 5 years ago I was running up to 3-9 miles 4-5 times a week. Since that time I cannot motivate myself to do anything but eat. I need an accountability partner to check in with on a daily basis. I have gained 45 pounds over the last 5 years and 80 pounds in 15 years. It stresses me out but what do I do when I stress....I eat! Help:)

I used to be just like this. Very recently, in fact. Nothing worked for me until the weight gain started cutting off my airway when lying on my back. Apnea caused me to wake up feeling like I was being suffocated. I also couldn't put my arms down at my sides. . .ever. I was getting that fat during COVID; maxing out at 254.

The doctor was like, "So do you want to go on CPAP?"

That scared me straight, "No. Absolutely not."

Then she was like, "So what do you think about a diet?"

I said, "I can do that. I won't be able to hide the results. My weight is a matter of record, and I got a doctor to hold me accountable."

"Great, you're going on intermittent fasting, 4 on, and 20 off. But you can eat anything you want."

"Great, I can do that!" :)

And I'm still fine with it. Apparently, it's the most intensive version of intermittent fasting (Joe Rogan said he couldn't do it). But I've held out for junk food on payday with an empty fridge the whole week, so this sounded doable. Once the "internal switch" on the keto gets flipped, I don't feel hungry. And I get full very easily. So far, I've lost 20 pounds.

I know it's not for everyone. But it's something to consider. I don't exercise, so maybe you'd be able to lose weight even faster.

Thanks for the reply. Intermittent fasting sounds scary. I am on a CPAP. My doc suggested eating by the mediterranean diet. I just went on a 20 minute walk. we shall see.

I have intermittent internet but I'm usually here on Fridays or at least for a short time on Sunday before I zoom our Mass at 10. I too once gain a huge amount of weight. My wake up call came when I was given a picture that was taken the day before and saw a double chin!

I stopped eating bread and pasta replacing these with vegetable pasta and almond breads. I started using stevia with honey reducing the honey as my tolerance for the non calorie sweeter grew. I now all stevia.

Lastly I started exercising, first only Ti Chi, and walking, I was still not in good shape but after two years I was able to do heavy lifting and aerobics easily. All these changes took years. Real change needs to be phase in to life which isn't easy. This is why this takes years. I also timed many of these changes around Lent, 40 days of change seems to lock these into my behavior far better as well.

So what I would suggest: Reduce carbs and consider periodic fasting. I have recipes for sweets that are low in sugar and higher in fiber that helps your body digest the sugar. Also watch for inflammation. That can be as deadly as excess fat. Post you progress and when I'm on-line I check up on this. Hope this will help.

Thanks Joyous!

I have to confess I have started and stopped the low carb alternatives this week. I used to commit to changes but now have difficulty. I will continue to post my updates here. Thanks for reaching out.

JS: Thank you. Also let me know if you need recipes or ideas for products which makes this easier to do. I also add you to my prayer for healing as I feel this condition I once had was a kind of sickness.
