Do God’s promises for eternity matter if you don’t believe you will go to heaven?

I was trying to understand why I don’t value the spiritual things God is giving me in my life compared to the more earthly things I want Him to do (mainly heal my 51 year old wife of the strokes she has had). I literally don’t want anything else from Him without that. Anyway, I started trying to figure out why they don’t matter to me. Yes, but it isn’t about that. It is that I will very likely not pursue a relationship with God and reject Him. I already am seeing signs of going down that road.

If that is true, then (good news/bad news depending on how you view it), you are permanently saved. You will still be going to heaven (Romans 5:12-19), because God sees you "in Christ" (Ephesians 1:7)

But you will be pretty embarrassed in heaven when you realized that you will receive no rewards in heaven (1 Corinthians 3:15).

My story is of a beautiful wife who was the center of my world. Four years ago she told me that if she had another grand mall seizure that she would not come back, and she would no longer burden me with the problem. I held her in my arms that night and she left to a better place. I never resented God's decision, as she said," God has a special mission for you, carry it out with every thing you have." I spent 38 years battling the enemy that tried to part us many times. Now I focus that faith and authority at the enemies attacking the Body of Christ. Christianity is for the brave and courage is heavens money. I pray that you see this short life as your opportunity to allow God to shine through and as it says in
Daniel 12:3> Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.

Your god is an idol, aka your wife. You hate God Himself and your words are absolutely steaming with that hatred. Unlike Jofes above me, I haven't been in your shoes so I can't imagine how much it must HURT but that's where you need to start, the idolatry. I know it's harsh but you did say you don't want comfort. Somehow, and possibly with some counselling, you need to reach a place where you can love her but still surrender her to God... whether she is healed or not, if she lives til an old age, or if she dies tomorrow. And whether you care about that or not, it could be the making of you. Maybe even her too.

It seems strange to me that when death threatens you don't believe in Heaven any more. If your wife passes away what greater comfort is there than knowing you will meet again in heaven? It seems to me that you want to force God to spare your wife's life with your salvation. Which is not going to help anything for if it is written in the truth that your wife will die soon then she will.

A real pity that your faith in God does not support you going through this crisis time. i pray that you will learn to cling to Jesus, also when death comes and takes your beloved.

For me the greatest joy in life is knowing i'm going to meet all my loved ones again in Heaven. Death cannot steal the loves of my life away from me. Such has and is the greatest comfort for me when death comes past.

Our God is really Victorious over death and then you plan to let that all slip away?

God is faithful to do all he has said he will do. This is to include making of his Elect into what he made them for --in Heaven. What we expect, or think we need, and certainly, what we want, in this life, then, is relatively unimportant; yet, even that he has always been shown to be faithful to do, at least in my life. It just didn't happen how I expected, nor did the promises mean what I took them to mean. My feelings of deadness and despair were tools he was using to later give me more than I had asked.

We are here for him! --not for ourselves.

God's eternal promises are both wonderful and terrifying. Having experienced the terror, I personally would do anything to avoid suffering that for eternity.

You have your priorities wrong. God is your only help, but you shut Him out of your life. Do you think that you are the only one who suffers? Unbelievers have no hope. We are encouraged not to throw away our confidence because there is great reward.

You have it all back to front. You are blaming God when you should be drawing close to Him. If I were you, I'd read the first chapter of James. It gives the right response to situations that are painful and beyond our control.

I know a little of the pain of seeing a loved one suffer. She was three weeks in hospital, half the time in ICU. One medication caused her kidneys to fail. She's still suffering the after effects. That's 5 weeks now. There are times I am near tears because I see her suffer and I can't help. Yet I know God is good. I know that He will work all this out for our good. I'm worn out, yet God's strength keeps me going. I don't know how. He just does. While all this is going on, I'm clearing out an office that we've had for two years. You would believe how much stuff you can collect in such a short time.

Ho good is God? The landlord has given me grace to restore the office to pre-lease condition. I've had ideal car park spots every time I've loaded up the car. The one time I needed help to lift something, a worker across the road came over and helped me. Other than that, my 70 year old (almost) body has held up. God's grace really is sufficient. If it were not, I'd be a blubbering mess.

Yes, we all are grieved to lose a loved one, but when we know they have before given their life over to our Creator-God early-on, through His "...beloved Son": the Lord Jesus (as John 3:16; John 14; etc) we have peace in knowing they went to be with God in ETERNAL blessings. We ALL need to be sure we have the Lord Jesus in our heart now as Lord of our life; Saviour of our soul by His sacrifice on the Cross; and walking and talking with Him daily as our best Friend, I have found over my many years walking with Him. God says: "he that has the Son of God has life eternal; and he that has not the Son has not that life" (see the Epistle 1 Jn. 5:10-12). I hope all professors of Christ have this reality and not just a religious hope of some kind.

I am sorry you are suffering watching your wife's health problems. It is never easy being the carer.

Please find the time to talk to someone you trust about your concerns.

You are loosing your trust in God because of your wife's health, is she a Christian?
How does she feel about her loosing you for eternity?

Again please talk to someone you trust about these issues.

Last point our faith/trust in Jesus is not about what we have now, it is about what we will have.

That is surely a choice you must make. If you do not want the salvation, love, and blessings of our Creator-God now and forever ---as He promises and many of us have received, then 'so be it'. You CAN confess you are born a sinner before our Creator as He says in His Word, and you CAN have eternal life in Heaven and blessings and peace now by receiving the "gift of God" as He says (see John 3:16; John 14; Romans 8; etc. If that is no interest to you then you will just go on to eternal loss, friend! I hope not! I recommend you NOT try to debate with God, but take Him at His holy "Word of Truth".

You should have read the originality. post. It isn’t that there is no interest, but that I am beat down to the point of rejection. I as wondering about meaning with the Eternal things of God if you no longer believe you are going to go there.

Basically you are upset at God because he doesn't want to prolong your wife's days.
It was probably a test which you failed because you showed to yoruself , us and God that you value your current life more than eternal life , you are too comfortable and probably slacking as Christian to begin with so God put you in not comfortable situation so you can grow from this and rethink stuff.

Another thing is that you don't need to forgive or even love God to go to heaven it's based on if you beliece Christ died on cross for your sins or not.

The reasoning is rather simple. I don’t believe I will be capable of having the relationship with God necessary to get to heaven. So what meaning would the eternal stiff have if I am not going to end up receiving it?
