• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

can't lay down and sleep because my knee is so inflamed it's given my whole body a low grade fever, any pressure on it at all I just can't sleep through the pain. I've prayed, taken medications.. nothing is helping. It feels like tiny gnomes are mining my knee with pickaxes.

about all I can do is stay up until I'm so exhausted I can't stay awake no matter how much pain I'm in, but that makes the flareup worse because lack of sleep can be a trigger for flareups.

What is the problem medically?

Psoriatic arthritis, and a very aggressive case of it, I'm on multiple immunosuppressant meds, but they don't get me 100%.

"What do you do when the Lord won't heal you?"

You get even eager for His return and hope He will show you His plan for you in the meantime.

I know that it seems like a pat answer, but it is a truthful one.

I am not discounting the pain your feeling. I have learned over the years to view pain, whether it is physical or emotional, as a way of showing me that this life is temporal - and it makes me long even more for the one that is eternal.

God will heal you. I promise. His timetable is different than ours. Don't think He won't just because He hasn't yet.

Now, on a purely physical/medical side - I would love to hear what those who have been dealing with this say because I have found that I am beginning to show signs of it and can only imagine how bad it can get.

A bunch of nasty rashes, and excruciating joint pain.. and for me it can get bad enough if it hits a knee rather than a smaller joint that the inflammation gives me a low grade fever, just like 99-100 degrees.
I think what happened is I spaced a week on humira. One medication I take once a week, the other, humira, I inject once every 2 weeks so sometimes it's hard to remember if its an on week or off week. I think I spaced a week and injected it on the third week on Saturday, and my knee has been inflammed since Friday a bit, but really picked up on Saturday and Sunday and today.

Sometimes it only lasts a week or two other times it can go months without any relief. When it attacks smaller joints usually medications (and medical cannabis) help, but the knee.. just too much for anything to handle.
I can get to a point of comfort sitting in a chair.. but .. trying to lay down to sleep, or walk even on crutches is too much.

Jam, I’m sorry you’re in pain. *hugs*

Can you apply something topical like Biofreeze and wrap your knee in a cold compress to bring the fever down?

How is your diet? Do they have you following an anti-inflammatory plan?

Yeah I try to avoid foods like artificial sweeteners that can incite joint pain, and red meat.
Topical won't do much since it's all the way into the bone, it's not a muscle pain, but maybe ice might do something.

And refined sugar. It can agitate the problem. Try an ice pack and see if it helps.

as far as I know regular sucrose doesn't do it, but high fructose corn syrup and really sweet fruit juices like orange juice can after a few days of having some every day. But it's nothing like Aspartame, a diet soda can make me miserable for weeks just off one.
It's a good thing I'm not much of a sweet tooth.

Have you ever tried what they call the Paleo diet? It’s all Whole Foods, if the ingredients list something you can’t read it’s off the diet. :)

I did it, plan on doing it again, about 6 years ago. The best I ever felt. I literally cannot put into words which is why I am even now wondering why I am not on it....

Anyways, food came up so I thought I would share.

I would not say it’s organic. In my neck of the woods there is a difference between organic and other things. Organic always cost more, simple foods do not.

Check it out.

well any meat at a supermarket is gonna have those ingredients that you can't pronounce, same with the produce, because of the fertilizers and pesticides that are used, and hormones and antibiotics for the meat

Honestly, I did not run into those issues where I live. In Arkansas. Home of Walmart.

They sell things labeled ‘organic’ , I just bought normal stuff. Pretty much stayed in the produce and fresh meat isles. Some frozen. Some canned fish.

worth a look

Like I said, any meat or produce is going to have loads of chemicals and hormones used in raising it/growing it.
So if the goal is to steer clear of those things.. regular supermarkets aren't going to cut it. One thing I have cut back on a lot is bread because the wheat we use now is so different from wheat 100 years ago, it makes an new variant of the gluten protein (which is why gluten intolerance and celiac disease is going through the roof)
