Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Do you believe this is all it takes to be saved, is there also more you must do to be saved?

The mouth confesses the heart and its content, right?

:Will you please move this thread if it is not fit to be here in General Theology - to Controversial instead - Thank you.

Do not desire it to be controversial instead factual.

Paul is assuring people if they are doing this, it's because God saved them. Otherwise, it is a chant people try to save themselves by reciting.

Alright Dave, thank you for your comment.

My stance would be different Paul seems to being saying, that if people who are declaring 'Jesus is the Lord', are confessing from their heart that they believe that God raised him from the dead, and they completely place trust and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ they will be saved.

Some people do not trust what the scripture has to say, and scriptures tell us we are not to judge others nor condemn people, for we are not God.

The heart speaks by the mouth what it believes. Thankful to know my mother does believe, because she has told me she believes the Lord Jesus Christ died and was raised again.

Also reading scripture this morning found this: Matthew 12: 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.

Seems Jesus Christ exclaims a persons can tell if the heart they have is bad or not, - especially when we judge ourselves and our own heart and our faith towards God and the Lord Jesus Christ if we trust in him - people in what they speak can end up acquitting you, or the words themselves eventually with condemn you.

Apply that type of scripture to walking with God, my own ways of the flesh have condemned me and the words and actions that have come from my own heart have challenged me while in rebellion towards God.

The Holy Spirit that is given to believers, will be condemned or chastened by God, if they keep following the Lord Jesus Christ, and keep having a relationship they continue in their sanctification, while in the beginning it started by the heart, in the confession of saying Jesus Christ is Lord, and believing God raised him from the dead.

Thank you Dave for your comment and God bless.

Context of declaration "Jesus is Lord"

Back in the day, roman soldiers with a crucifix on their forehead would compel people to say "Caesar is Lord" - so if in this moment you would declare instead that Jesus is Lord, then that would take some great faith - now wouldn't it?

Death, Sin, Satan, - Great Question Available Light.

It also reassures being saved in death unto resurrection.
It also reassures us being renewed in our hearts through faith, and hearing and learning scriptures. (Or being Chastened by God).

We are saved from ourselves - our own hatred, jealously, envy of others, lustful selves, ultimately leading us towards loving God, with all our heart, with all our mind, all our soul, and you will express love towards others.

You will no longer judge them, condemn others, of course we still fall short sometimes sin but we have an advocate - Jesus Christ who will plead our case when we go into prayer asking God to forgive us and to help us in our temptations, and our needs and giving our cares to him and worries that we will find acceptance and believe that God does truly love us, and does truly forgive us, and we can walk by the spirit that is given by God when we believe and have faith, in the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in our heart God raised him from the dead.

If anyone has anything else to add please do - (Am a person of faith that believe that Satan has been destroyed and crushed by the Lord Jesus Christ)

Anything that I say is wrong please forgive me, for it is said we make mistakes, and no one on earth is perfect like the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, we will die here on this earth. Thank you for your comment, and God bless you, Available light.

Also in response to this would like to point out a passage from Galatians Chapter 6: A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Also Romans 8:13.

Everyone has a choice, and may do whatever they will with their own life. For all people are alone accountable to God and will give an account on judgement day. God desires to give us abundance of life by the spirit, where the flesh is only temporary and you can feed it even as a babe in the Lord Jesus Christ if you desire. The flesh is temporary because we will die in this body.

(I have been there using drugs, and inappropriate contentography in my life as a believer and Christian however God finally removed those things plaguing me in my heart and kept me looking toward him, and His Son Jesus Christ.)

God will deliver you if you desire to be delivered and helped by God.

If anyone desires to know that it is true! Keep praying and asking God for help, and not waver in your asking and believe and completely trust in God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

@Available Light Thank you for your comments, believe this sums everything up now.

No one makes it off this world without dying.

Keep reading Romans 10. How can a person confess that Jesus is Lord and believe in His resurrection? How does a person go from non-believing and hostile toward God to believing and in communion with God?

"Though ye saw Him not, ye believe with joy unutterable and full of glory; unto which joy many desire to enter in; forasmuch as ye know that it is by grace ye are saved, not of works, but by the will of God through Jesus Christ.........
.....Now He that raised Him from the dead will raise us also; if we do His will and walk in His commandments and love the things which He loved, abstaining from all unrighteousness, covetousness, love of money, evil speaking, false witness; not rendering evil for evil or railing for railing or blow for blow or cursing for cursing; but remembering the words which the Lord spake, as He taught; Judge not that ye be not judged. Forgive, and it shall be forgiven to you. Have mercy that ye may receive mercy".

Hello Viacrucis, will you please help us in explaining how that process works? Hope you are having a good day, those are great questions.

See what Paul says as you read further along in Romans 10.

He asks how can one call on Him whom they have not heard, and how can they hear unless one is sent to preach? Thus the Apostle says in verse 17, "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ".

Faith, faith is how one can call on the name of the Lord and believe in the resurrection of our Lord.

Romans 10:9 does not mean that God rewards people with salvation if they follow these X, Y, Z steps. Rather, salvation has come to us from God. How? By the word, through which God gives us faith (Ephesians 2:8), and through faith we are justified and born of God.

It is not by a "work of faith", i.e. the human effort to believe, but rather through the passive faith granted to our hearts by God's mercy, through which the work of Jesus Christ is appropriated to us by the Holy Spirit. Thus, says the Apostle, whoever is baptized is baptized into Christ, clothed with Christ, having been crucified with Him, dying with Him, buried with Him, and also raised up together with Him to new life--the life of a born again new creation in Christ. And thus we have passed from death to life. This God accomplishes by His grace, purely out of His love for us sinners.

Thus the Apostle can say that if we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, we are saved--not because of the work of confession or believing, but because these are the things that come from a regenerated heart of faith. For no one can confess that Jesus Christ is Lord except by the Holy Spirit, St Paul says in another place; thus it is only from faith granted to our hearts by the Holy Spirit that we can confess Him, call upon Him, and believe upon Him, His life, His death, His resurrection, His ascension, and indeed, His coming again in glory as judge of the quick and the dead.

This, I feel, is the seed of saving grace that needs to flourish and grow in deeds of service and forgiveness to others that they may see God's love through you and perhaps they may seek God out.

If you mean by "completely trusting", we follow through and do as Christ tells us to do, as part of that faith, then I would agree.

Completely trusting is the key to that scripture, and we should not do as many do and try to make that, or any other scripture all about all talk, and no walk.
