What experience do you have of the preaching and writings of the great man of God,Charles Haddan
Spurgeon?
Spurgeon?
When I was 17, I think it was, my dad gave me a copy of lectures by Spurgeon to his students. It disappeared during a move; I wish I could find it to read again but my eyes have gotten really old. One thing I have appreciated about Spurgeon is his clear-headed ability to teach Reformed Theology without doing so for the sake of Reformed Theology, if you know what I mean. He had the ability to make absolute statements with a tone of simple reasoning, that made sense to Calvinists and non-Calvinists alike. I don't often hear anyone dismiss his words with "Oh, he's just a Calvinist!" Many people that appreciate him don't even know he was Reformed. What experience do you have of the preaching and writings of the great man of God,Charles Haddan

I have hundreds of His sermons and books. They are slI've read some of his sermons and read a precis of his life story. A truly amazing man.
Useful and helpful stuff,'St. Worms'. Thankyou!Hello @quietbloke, Spurgeon had a deep understanding of the faith, and we are all blessed because of it, and because of his God-given ability to express what he understood so clearly and concisely to us (so that we can understand what he did as well).
His commentaries and sermons are available online and on Kindle, and his famous daily devotional, Morning and Evening, is as well. Around here however, it's usually his quotes that I turn to and use in my posts. Here are just a few of them.
Concerning the Lord's words to us in Jeremiah 31:3, that we are loved by Him with an "everlasting love" (meaning that as He is from everlasting and to everlasting, so is His love for us, His saints), Spurgeon ends one of his evening devotional entries by saying this in response,
"Everlasting love shall be the pillow for my head this night".
There are SO many wonderful quotes from him. Here are a few more as promised.

Helpful, 'royalpriest'Everything I've read from him and about him is very edifying.
Here's a neat documentary about his life:

What a wonderful testimony that was! While under conviction as a young man he found Christ through -
"LOOK UNTO ME, AND BE YE SAVED, ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH" (Isa. 45:22)
Yes. 23,000 people agreed with you when he was just 23 years old.I have hundreds of His sermons and books. They are sl
firmly based on Scripture and full of wisdom
One of the things I most admire about Spurgeon is the stand he took against slavery. He described is as detestable, refused to fellowship with anyone who took part in it, and became very unpopular with many congregations of his time, losing their support. He clearly was a man of strong Christian values and had a unwavering and uncompromising commitment to what he believed. He was truly a kind and compassionate soul.
I do not know many Christians who have not stumbled and fallen on their journey in faith. Peter denied Jesus three times. Thomas doubted His Lord and master. Demas departed the faith because he had fallen in love with the world. The Spurgeon Library | The Sure Mercies of David
a Christian must trust in Christ and obey also, our Heavenly Father will keep using the rod and stripes (chastenen) us to make us more Christ-like. If we refuse to be chastened, we'll go into perpetual backsliding.
