If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.

What is meant by this? Suffer but be saved as one escaping through the flames?

Is this like, punished for awhile and then saved? Because it says we all will be punished for what we have done, but is there punishment in heaven? Is this like a slap on the wrist?

Consider verse 15. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss

This is not so much a punishment but the shame of realising there was no value in that which you valued highly. Paul is emphasising that this will not affect your salvation but you will feel the shame of it all the same.

Sometimes a small child will go to great effort to do something to please his father and it is disappointing if that father has to show him it was not the correct thing to do. Been there, done that. It can be terribly upsetting, even when your dad thanks you for the effort. You so wanted for it to be right. Dad still loved and often corrected, trying to show how to do it best. He didn't abandon me and say, you're not my son anymore. Rather he made a special point of letting me know how much he loved me. However the humiliation still stung.

Jesus said, "Except you come as a little child you cannot enter the kingdom of God."

Sometimes it is very necessary to serve him in this manner.

I have a saying, and it is this, "I am God's little boy."

Sometimes, when I feel very weak, I lift my arms heavenward and pray, "Father, carry me."

It is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts.

Unto him be glory in the Church.

No. That passage says that our works will be tested, but we will be saved regardless of the outcome [v. 15].

Jesus said,
Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy and
where thieves break in and steal;
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys and
where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

Other Scriptures (like The Parable of the Minas) suggest that our position in Heaven will be determined by how our Christian walk on Earth is graded. We will still get into Heaven, though.

Only works of love pass the test. The rest fail and go without reward. But believers are saved even if they produce shabby works because salvation is by grace, not works.

Many think this is about us as disciples. But apparently Paul is talking about church builders such as himself.
I think you are right. But it shows how you can waste your life by attending the wrong church. We need to stop trusting the church we attend and instead trust our ability to pick which one to attend.

The Corinthians for the most part, were immature in their understanding. All through Paul's letters he is reprimanding the Corinthians because they were not Spiritually minded. Ignorance and flesh driven activities took hold of this congregation. Spiritual unity was not present, they were foolish. So Paul , rather than condemn the ignorant, took the approach of presenting a scenario where understanding built on a flimsy foundation of the Kingdom of God, would eventually be tested and through ignorance and immaturity will cause their works to be exposed as having no righteousness. God will expose and destroy yet spare those who through ignorance fell into foolish behavior.
My take anyway. Blessings.

That is completely different than what anyone else has said. Very interesting to have such a different interpretation of the scripture.

This is very true. However I do not have a decent church around me but I have found a pastor online who I like very much and he is a very Godly man . Is it ok to attend a church online that I cannot physically get to?

Well what are we? We have( if you are American) taken every sin under the sun and made it our everyday lifestyle. God bless America! Why would He? We haven't given Him any reasons to bless us as a nation and my American Pride is dying. We have become a disgrace in the eyes of God with all the lust, divorce, inappropriate contentography, adultery, sensuality, indecency, homosexuality, the list goes on. Look at all of the" Godly" men in America struggling with inappropriate content addiction like its normal. What a joke. We are very much like the Corinthians. His advice might as well be for us except they probably weren't as bad.

I think the audience was the entire Corinthian church. Though church builders would be of special interest of course. Because they establish what the church believes and the customs it follows.

I'm in the same position. I cannot find a church preaching the truth in my area today. So I just study on my own and listen to YouTube sermons of teachers who remain true to historic standards. Most in my area are swept up in post-1800s errors. With no ties to the historic creeds.

Here's a sermon from a real man of God. This is my favorite pastor. Watch til the end. He has the Holy Ghost on fire! Thats what it takes to make a difference these days. He gets me excited! No prosperity preaching here- get ready...
Let me know what you think

I probably would not attend his church even though many Christians no doubt do. In his Sermon Audio catalog he seems to be pre-millennial and pro "Rapture". This tells me he, as many others do, reject Jesus' gospel of the Kingdom and side with the Pharisee's premillennial kingdom. So as a rule, I stick with Amillennial churches and avoid these sorts.
