We’ve barely begun the new year and Speaker Pelosi is already canceling full weeks of legislative work for the House. The schedule Pelosi set for 2021 has the fewest working days in a non-election year in recent memory – and she’s already canceled 8 legislative work days in January alone.

We’ve had 18 total votes this year so far, and zero debate or committee hearings on President Biden’s 20+ executive orders. This is not normal. This is not how our government was meant to function.

Only the Senate can confirm the new cabinet members (the House cannot do any of that).

Only the Senate can do any impeachment trial (the House can only send some 'managers' over to present the case).

So, there is going to be a lot of time during which the Senate has a lot to do and the House relatively far less to do.

Do you think that “no legislative work” means vacation? Have you looked at the calendar itself?

Yup - they only have to be in Washington 110 days in 2021.

That is where they hold referendums, debates, and votes. Want to get legislation passed? They need to be on sight. It is the least number of days ever.

What they do off site - going to their home states is important, but to get business of the people done, they have to be there.

Agreed, but as was pointed out before, those who did not want to return to normal if Trump were defeated but who instead TOLD US that they were going to turn the country upside down in victory are in charge now. The old rules mean nothing to them because who's going to stop them from doing such things as you describe? No one. Not the opposition party. Not the courts. Not public opinion, which is so influenced by the CNNs and NBCs and NYTimeses that control what's given out as news. And the victors know it.

"Grim Reaper" Mitch McConnell admits there are 395 House bills sitting in the Senate: "We're not going to pass those"

Don't worry, the new Senate has to decide on about 400 bills that Nancy's house has already passed which Mitch McConnell's Senate wouldn't even allow to be debated in the Senate, so it's not likely to slow anything down all that much.

Admittedly I'd rather see the House pass a new stimulus package and hold off presenting impeachment articles for a few weeks, but it's not like the Senate is going to catch up on their work anytime soon.

Then again, at least we have a President now that actually works hard and gets things done rather than spending US tax dollars to support his own businesses while he plays golf more than any President in history.

They cannot find anything to do? Seriously? Well if they do not think that there are problems in our nation that need to be fixed and they do not want to work on solving those problems, I think we should replace them at the next opportunity and find people who want to work for the American people.

Because as we all know, the only work Congresspeople do is standing in the House Chamber and taking votes. They never work in committees, they never meet with constituents, they never write or read legislation, they never negotiate with their colleagues about pending legislation. If Rep. Herns thinks that he is only working when taking votes, maybe he should consider a different line of work.

That is better defense of a political parties inaction that I have read from any pro Trump in the last four years.

The man is being criticized and it is suggested that he should consider a different line of work because he wants congress to stop taking 255 days a year away from being in the people's house passing legislation during the middle of an economic and medical crisis.

Do you think the bills magically descend from heaven, or that the congressmen magically know what's in every bill without having to read them? Just because they aren't meeting in legislative session doesn't mean they aren't working. Especially since there is nothing preventing them from doing committee work virtually, which is where the majority of the work actually happens.

Curious how you came to this conclusion (I know that it is the latest propaganda message on Democratic supporting media), but I'd really like to know if there is proof that the man who sat in his basement and ended his work days early for 5 months is suddenly a work horse.

Got his schedule?

I did see that he passed 17 EO (a record) one being mandating masks on federal lands - then he went out on federal lands without a mask.

How long have you been in congress that you know this information so intimately?

Now who should I take the most trust in? A Congressman or an anonymous poster on a forum. No offense but I understand the narrative has flipped 180 degrees from EVERYTHING the Trump administration does is wrong to EVERYTHING the Joe administration is good.

There is zero reason to not meet on a standard schedule.

No debating, and no passing of anything. Nancy is STILL sitting on help for covid relief that she openly admitted to stalling because she didn't like the President. She is playing politics with our lives.

Here are the number of legislative days for the House and Senate each year in recent history:

  • 2018: 174 in the House, 191 in the Senate.
  • 2017: 192 in the House, 195 in the Senate.
  • 2016: 131 in the House, 165 in the Senate.
  • 2015: 157 in the House, 168 in the Senate.
  • 2014: 135 in the House, 136 in the Senate.
  • 2013: 159 in the House, 156 in the Senate.
  • 2012: 153 in the House, 153 in the Senate.
  • 2011: 175 in the House, 170 in the Senate.
  • 2010: 127 in the House, 158 in the Senate.
  • 2009: 159 in the House, 191 in the Senate.
2021 with the safest place in the US, highest levels of sanitation - from 191 in 2018 to 110 -

Why?

“That’s right!” Sanders (I-Vt.) responded, confirming it was Democrats, not Republicans, who were to blame for months of inaction.
MATTHEWS: Nancy Pelosi admits why she stalled COVID relief bill, and it should outrage every American

Pelosi was questioned during the press briefing as to what made her suddenly change her mind. “What has shifted now, when they’re on board with this piece that’s come out of the Senate?”, asked one.

The House Speaker appeared agitated by the question. Making animated finger-pointing gestures, Pelosi admitted she wanted to wait until after the election when presumably Joe Biden would be declared the winner of the presidential race.

You have to be there to have anything other than hearsay knowledge of what is happening. For me to consider your POV over a member of congress, well I just cannot do that.

Hmmm, I wonder if the House will simply bring back up some of the extensive legislation they already worked on at great length and passed in 2019, which the Senate at that time refused to even allow onto the floor.

That would be one way to "work on solving problems" -- to bring up some of the extensive work they did in the last year or 2.

Curious how you came to this conclusion...

Biden has been signing executive orders since *day one*, he's clearly working on a Covid-19 vaccine rollout plan because his predecessor didn't have one, and he's already produced an outline for a stimulus package, all in his first week in office.

At least he's not out playing golf at his own luxury resort, making US taxpayers financially support his own companies, while he's *not* signing a stimulus bill that was just sitting on his desk like the last guy in office.

My favorite part of the change I'm seeing is that now when there's Covid-19 briefing, I'm not watching some ignorant narcissist pretending to be an "expert" on something he knows nothing about, prattle on about injecting disinfectants in the human body, and then watching the scientists behind him roll their eyes in absolute disgust about how much a fool the guys is making of himself. Now the scientist don't have to come up to the podium two minutes later and correct the President. I'm not getting mixed messages anymore, I'm getting *real scientific facts*. What a breath of fresh air.

I dunno, but I do know they have to be in session to do so.
