Twelve U.S. Army National Guard members have been removed from the presidential inauguration security mission after they were found to have ties with right-wing militia groups or posted extremist views online, according to two U.S. officials.

No reason to believe anybody planned anything, but still newsworthy.

No surprise there, I left the Michigan National Guard in September because of the Q-people and the other followers of instigators.

(and I have gotten two mass e-mails from commanders to delete any social media that has those viewpoints)

I've never read anything more crazy, or more frightening. It's hard to have faith in any government that demands party loyalty over constitutional loyalty.

I'm sorry, but those in power are a bunch of crazy extremists, and we should all be VERY concerned about this kind of rhetoric if we believe in our constitutional freedoms.

Nothing in the article said that all Republicans were removed, just 12 people out of thousands who were considered to be security threats.

They also neglected to say what led them to be considered threats other than espousing views the new regime doesn't like and having ties to "groups"...

Those in positions of power also said all conservatives should be treated like we treat al-Qaeda and that "white males" are an extremist threat.

I'm sorry, but this is the left gone mad!

Our soldiers are to be faithful to our constitution, not a party, and this little war everyone on the left wants to start against any with opposing political views is nothing short of insanity....

And it makes me and much of America frightened of our own government - in a supposedly free country. They have turned that into a joke at this point...

This is insanity. Sheer insanity!

I don't know that anyone considers them a threat. They just got a day off.

No, they didn't.

This insinuation is an insult to anyone who wears or has worn the uniform. Those that have not could not possibly understand the reasoning behind my statement.

IF these Guard people have been promoting any sort of violent solution to the "stolen election" delusion, then of course they are a security risk.

But these 12 aside, there's obviously still thousands of "conservatives" on this particular mission, so youre probably overreacting.

What would be insanity would be allowing known security threats to have direct access to the people they are hostile towards and perhaps even made threats in those statements they made. If it were just a matter of being conservative, there would be far, far more than 12 people out of THOUSANDS that would have been removed, considering that much of the military in general leans conservative. But anyone with sense knows that if, for example, you are protecting an official who is black, you're not going to allow someone with known ties to the Ku Klux Klan to be his bodyguard.

People in positions of power say frightening things, right or left. I'd be curious to know which powerful people you're referencing, though. Who exactly said that we should treat conservatives like al-qaida, and that white males are an extremist threat?

Nobody's gone. They just aren't part of this particular assignment.

Make sense. Who can honestly say people with links to the far right are stable: what with all the insurrectionism enthusiasm they seem to have.

Who knows how many back doors they might open for a mentalist right wing death cultist bent on killing the rightful POTUS.

A bullet dodged, I imagine.

What extremist views did they post?

Good; it's their job to protect and serve the commander in chief. In light of Jan. 6th , it's the right move. Out of all the National Guard that are there, only 12 were removed. I highly doubt all conservative men and women were removed. Those that had extreme views that could harm the president? yes, remove them from this assignment.

It is the National Guards' duty to protect, serve and defend the Constitution and the people of the United States. Protecting the President is the job of the Secret Service and it is the White House culinary staff whose job it is to serve the President and all his many subordinates and guests.

Good , there are going to be Americans there around the president, who is also an American. The Inauguration is outlined in the Constitution so they should be there to protect that swearing in ceremony and keep the incoming president from getting shot. Protecting the Americans involved and protecting the property will result in safety for the incoming president.

If trump were getting a gun salute send off, maybe they might vet those participating to make sure there are no extreme leftists hell bent on taking him out.

That is the Secret Service's job not the National Guard's job. the National Guard will have a different task during the inauguration.
