We were assured by the government at the time of the referendum into gay marriage that there would be no impact on people of faith. After the referendum, some Christians, and a radio presenter were put before the courts, some fined $10,000.
would on=e of these "Christians be the man who distributed false claims that gay men have a life expectancy of 42 years, that they routinely consume human feces and that lesbianism are the leading case of traffic fatalities?

Now we have this new law, which states we may not participate in any conversion practice, we may not try to convert someone from a gay life style, and you assure us there will be no implications.
there are also laws that say you can't drive a metal spike into a gay man's brain to "cure him"

It's a joke. The law specifically mentions even prayer is not allowed, for consenting adults. It is crazy. There will be implications, there will be fines.
you would do well to remember that conversion therapy largely targets children as young as age 3.

Not at all. Just your everyday regular Christian.

I have no time for this type of talk. The church's views on sexuality are being criminalized and all you want to do is fight me.

Rubbish, there are no such things happening. It is the reverse, the gay movement here in Australia has library sessions, where drag queens teach 3-year-olds it is cool to be gay.

I bet God is angry. I will not be responding to any more of your talk. This is a prayer thread not a place to argue.

really? Cause the guy who did this was fined. Can you name the Christians you are talking about or better yet link to an actual reference?

not that many years ago the pounding of an iron spike into the brain of a homosexuals was considered a loving cure for their "lifestyle choice" It's now against the law to inflict this cure on homosexuals.

Rubbish, there are no such things happening.
Joseph Nicolosi founder of NARTH in his book "A Parent's Guide to Preventing Homosexuality" advocated beginning therapy on Children as young as age three.

Points for Prayer:
  • Pray for those responsible for reviewing or amending this legalisation will be able to give unpredjudiced consideration to positive stories and studies of sexual "orientation" change and not only to stories of bad experiences with SOCEs.
  • Pray for those in Churches delivering counselling that contains this component will be mindful that true healing begins and continues in personal relationship with God the Father in and through the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit. Pray that standards of good practice in pastoral care will be maintained - that only properly qualified, spiritually and psychologially mature and people will be involved in such counselling.
  • Pray that in the event of it becoming more difficult to access support that people seeking help in this will be led to the written or audio resources appropriate for them, through which they can find help and support.

It's not about whether I inflict it, it is whether the person claims it. They only have to see my website advertising the fact that Homosexuality is against God, they could claim this has bought them continual fear (or some other disruption to their mental health), I could then be fined.

This is not about physical injury, it is all about, a person's perceived mental well being.
Sorry. Your web site is not a treatment directed at an individual claiming to be able to change their sexual orientation.

Did they vote?
Yes it passed I read despite concerns about the possibility that it might have unintended consequences - It has to await royal assent - so it would be 12 months before it comes into effect. I don't know enough about Australian parliamentary processes to know if there is any likelihood of further amendment before that.

Thank you.

Please continue to keep this matter in prayer - its also a live issue in several other countries.

In the UK it is being debated in regional assemblies:

Will ‘conversion therapy’ ban be sneaked into Scottish Hate Crime Bill?

I have seen much in the way of books (testimonies etc.) and some audio ministry resources aimed at people wanting help in this area - I am impressed with the standard of most of it - its not promoting simplistic "conversion therapy" ideas - sadly there is also pressure from activists to get some of these pulled from Amazon. There is so much ignorance about what SOCEs are - most psychotherapy in this realm is almost entirely talk based now (sometimes with prayer if its with a christian counsellor.)

Pray that hearts be softened and the ignorant notions circulating be corrected, and that those seeking help be led to the right resources for where they are at on their journey.
