It's a no brainier that our Medical Staff in this country should be the first ones to get these Vaccines coming out. (Skilled nursing homes)

Reasons are that they need to remain healthy in heavily contaminated work environment. They have now become a point of infection as about half of the medical personel are currently asymptomatic carriers for Covid-19.

But who else?

There are several people groups of essential workers that we need to vaccinate.
Food supply chain.(including retail)
Delivery/logistical people.
Fire/police/prison guards.
Mechanical repair (trucks and cars and airplanes)
Military and National Guard
Construction/maintenance workers.

Teachers?
School kids?
Prisoners?
Lawyers?
Dockworkers?
Restaurants?
Pastoral staff?

And where this forum has an extraordinary amount of people who are all about their conspiracy theories...leave that discussion in those threads. People want these Vaccines so they can get back to a normal life. If you don't want them fine by me and the billions who do.

As well as the groups you describe, I heard that WHO is suggesting that "super spreaders" be identified and given the vaccine early on. Also of course, those who belong to endangered groups; Older people, those with pre-existing conditions, etc.

The issue is that more than likely there's going to be a bit more than enough to do all the medical personel...who gets it next?

THIS site lays out the order. The answer to who is next, is others in Phase 1.

In Phase 1, first responders, healthcare workers in high-risk settings — like hospitals or nursing homes — people with serious comorbidities that significantly increase their risk, and older adults in congregate settings like nursing homes would take priority.

The CDC is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss this very thing.

They have more exacting numbers for doses and scheduled doses available.

I'd put teachers in the essential workers' list, right up there with the food chain workers.

In germany, we had an ethics comittee talk this out and make a suggestion to our government, which was taken as sound advice afaik. First those medical responders, nurses, doctors and similiar people will get the vaccine. Then high risk patients like old people, diabetics, immunocompromised. Priority 3 are people who are essential for keeping up normal life. Including teachers, and also various important workers, like for example garbage disposal workers, bus drivers, train conductors etc.

Also, it won't be just one after the other, but apparently there will already be some vaccination of later groups if the higher priority ones are mostly finished, if it means higher efficiency. For example, many old people will need to get vaccinated in their homes or retirement homes, so there will already be people in group 3 being vaccinated if it means the vaccination centers work at peak efficiency.

There are centers like that in every city, with a "vaccination street" approach that pushes people through at highest efficiency, with first a waiting area, then a short talk with a doctor for informed consent, then the vaccination and then a rest period in an area for 15 minutes. Repeat after 2 weeks. Those centers will be operating 7 days a week, from 7 am to 10 pm. Everyone gets an appointment according to their priority.

I would have a difficult time to choose who next gets a shot past the medical personel.

EVERYONE I mentioned is worthy And good candidates.

In every state of the Union.

Personally, I could see a successful argument made for lawyers and politicians to be last...but they're like cockroaches...they survive even a nuclear holocaust.
But I digress.

Eventually...
Hopefully by next summer/fall everyone who wants a vaccine will get one...

No sense in forcing Vaccines on anyone. There's no chance of "herd immunity" for this virus because of the various animals population that can easily spread it. (From rodents to cats to minks and possums and armadillo...)

ay, there's the rub.

I note that each country is constructing similar lists, each in their tiny bubble. Little attention is given to the fact that the pandemic is global and global solutions are required. Under the present system it appears that as an aged citizen of the UK I am likely to get my vaccination ahead of front line health worker in Zaire, or Kampuchea. I know which is more deserving and it is not I.

But Zaire is not a territory of the UK.

And with the new strain that has developed in the UK that is a lot more infectious...I'm Thinking that they would rather you be vaccinated first anyway.

My jabs can't come soon enough.

So what? I repeat: this is a pandemic; it has global reach; solutions should be global. I might prefer to have my vaccination today, or even better, yesterday, but is it better globally for me to have the vaccine first, or for that vaccine to go to a nurse in Zaire? I suggest it is the latter. Unfortunately, I cannot currently think of what I can do to achieve that.

However, Zaire isn't "locked down" or being isolated from the rest of the world for their new strain. But South Africa is in a similar boat with a similar new strain.

Both are going to be stopped by the vaccines.

Where your motives are noble...they are unactionable. You would have had to have done something months ago with LOTS of money.

Distributions are a matter of Government and healthcare systems. Where the Gates Foundation is working on this very thing...it remains to be seen when their Vaccine will be available.

Just take your injections when available and then you can help others. Dead men offer no assistance.

Together these represent my central point. We elect our governments (for the most part). Our governments are failing to act in a "noble" way. If we are to discharge our own responsibilties we need to elect governments that will do so on our behalf. I don't see much inclination to do so.

The Vaccines are available at Walgreens here in Nashville TN now..for front line workers.
My turn is coming up soon. My wife's is even sooner...she has an appointment.

My wife just blasted me for trying to figure out a way to be a line jumper.

The way I understand it the vaccine doesn't prevent the disease, or prevents one from spreading it, it just lessens the severity. Therefore those at greatest risk of dying should get it right after healthcare workers. Then whoever shows up next.

It prevents disease..they aren't sure if it prevents infection.
