"Harvard Students Who ‘Want to Set Up Reeducation Camps"

“Students (at) Harvard now want to set up, (some) kind of, reeducation camps and moral rehabilitation centers and institutions for vetting people who had the chutzpah to work in the Trump Administration,” Dershowitz says in a video posted Thursday on his YouTube channel.

“They want to censor them. They want to prevent them from speaking at Harvard. They want to prevent them from teaching at Harvard,” Dershowitz says, declaring the students hypocrites for claiming they want diversity:

Some will agree that these students are going too far in their efforts to be closed minded.

Normally we would say that America learns "How not to do it" from Communism's soviet socialist republic and CCP.

I haven't looked at the original document, but the article's summary makes it look like this is a proposal for Harvard, not the US. They want Harvard not to hire any current Trump officials, nor to allow Trumpism any voice at Harvard.

I do wonder about the rhetoric of leftists. They might not do anything in the near future with an insecure power base, but the left will inevitably push towards this outcome. Like they'll push practicing Christians out of healthcare. They want complete control and won't suffer dissent in the end.

All sorts of things were considered to be unthinkable by Americans and called crazy or "conspiracy theories" not long ago.

But the totalitarians who experienced a much-hoped-for win in November, 2020 are only now becoming confident enough to identify themselves to the public and describe the policies that they want.

It looks to me like this is refering to the open letter at Harvard that called for standards regarding having those who were in the Trump administration as speakers or hires. It did NOT call for a total ban. It probably does want to avoid Trumpists who have a history of spreading lies and misinformation.

Somehow certian groups think free speach means everyone else is required to give them a platform to speak from. It of course does no such thing.

We do have the former Wal-Mart detention centers that Obama created for Jade Helm…

Those are full of kids from Central America. A different location will be needed.

It might have been nice had the article actually linked to the petition instead of asking us to rely on Mr. Dershowitz telling us what it says. Call me a skeptic. Anyone have a link to the primary source?

An article about a petition that doesn’t contain a single line from the petition or any description of what is in it. Very useful.

And the Conservatives (some even in this forum) who were calling for the incarceration of Liberals lost.

As Keith and Hendrik have pointed out, this is about selectivity in hiring ex-Trump admin officials at Harvard.

You all may not know, but the political appointees (especially the lower level ones) often go to think tanks, lobbying, media, and law firms after the party changes in the WH. (An awful lot of them are lawyers, even ones who's jobs don't have legal sounding descriptions. Washington is *thick* with lawyers.) Many of them came from such institutions or firms before being in government.

The Harvard students seem concerned (or should be) that members of the Trump admin would get "trustwashed" by passing through their institution before re-emerging as an experience conservative government hand. That many of them already have "elite university" degrees helps in the process.

While there are almost certainly people in every administration that shouldn't get the benefit of the doubt after their actions in government, it is clear to most observers that there are so many abhorrent or illegal things done in this administration that they shouldn't be permitted to get a free pass back into elite policy and government circles by getting a Harvard imprimatur added to their CVs. [ Dialog "Let's see... NYU undergrad, Columbia Law, federal court clerkship. Very good. Very good. Deputy Undersecretary for Immigrant Detention, Trump admin... ooh this isn't good ... Ahh, Fellow at Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.. I guess things are OK then. You seem very well qualified for our position."]

This isn't about keeping conservatives from getting jobs, but with so many questionable to immoral things done by this administration any such selections for future employment should be done only when the context of said service in government is well understood. There are also a lot of civic-minded, decent conservatives who refused to join the Trump Admin, who would have done so gladly in a Cruz or Rubio admin. As a consequence, many of the positions were filled by lower quality, or less qualified, people than you would normally expect with certain titles.

As you requested.

You will see that there is nothing requesting a total ban. Following is the closest to that I saw. If the Trumpers see that as a total ban being called for it would be confirming that all Trump administration members failed to live up to the standards listed. A claim I am not aware of any Democrat making.

Harvard should stand firm with its stated commitments to a just Harvard and a just world, to free and honest inquiry in the unfettered pursuit of truth, the right to vote, a free and independent press, checks and balances, the peaceful transfer of power, and the rule of law with equal justice for all. We believe that Trump administration officials who failed to live up to that standard have disqualified themselves from being hired by the school as faculty or fellows.

At the moment, yes, but people are saying that Biden is going to free them all, give them citizenship, and invite their families to the US and give them all Jobs.

A sensible move considering the devestation that it has caused to America. Why enable something that has been so pernicious of the common good?

In the dark ages the idea was to shut out as "not valuable for the common good" all ideas that differ from your own... I think a lot of us are past that at this point.j

But of course I respect your right to post on the opposite side of the POV I just posted. (this used to be considered "liberal")

Ah yes... the Dark Ages. You have far more in common with that mentality than I do, Christian.

Your post sounds so much like Senator Joe McCarthy it is spooky. only replacing that communist with a populist. The more things change the more they remain the same.

I have less in common with McCarthy, who peddled in conspiracy theories. If anything, the comparison applies more to the Right in the United States now, that it does to somebody like me who merely insists we not platform people that enabled a dangerous demagogue that damaged American society.
