Do you still have sin even though you believe in Jesus and God?
Do you realize yourself as born a sinner, but are you born again? One must be born of water and the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:6). There is no other good way.
The flesh will continue to sin, but you must have the Spirit and its desires. A sinner's prayer can't/won't be heard by God and sin separates you from him. But we have salvation in Jesus who came by water and blood (1John5:6,1Pet3:21). Jesus's name means He is our Savior who came by water and blood. We must not add or emphasize out of proportion while neglecting the entirety of His Word and the point/heart. But it is clear, saying again lest this be missing on some account or go unnoticed, He did indeed come by water and blood.
He came in flesh to be judged for our sin by taking it (all) (away) as the Lamb of God according to the Priesthood (Luke1:5,1Chron24:10) and paying for it with His blood (John19:30) and resurrected for our new life in/through Him. People tend to disagree or not understand what is beyond them and the usual. Sometimes people are fascinated exotic culture, but often over history and in modern times consider it evil or barbaric while accustomed to their own ways. God says His ways are higher; you might look across the whole world and still not recognize a pearl. We must deny ourselves and seek God, which is only possible by Him. Sinners may deny themselves according to their reading of the Law but still end up nowhere. The flesh will still be flesh. But the Spirit must take precedent and we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Mat6:33). John the Baptist was the representative according to the Aaronic Priesthood who passed all sin on the Lamb. And of course He died for our sins, past present future in our hearts and acts.
Do you know that even to sin in your heart and not your works is still sin (Mat5:28)?
Man may have his own righteousness which is as a filthy rag (Isa64:6), but Jesus was baptized (which was fitting) to fulfill all righteousness (Mat3:15).
So you must recognize when you read the Law you are born as sinful flesh, but according to faith in Jesus Christ, who is our Savior according to His name and not another Jesus, and Christ meaning Anointed, King Prophet Priest, we may be born again spiritually as His children. When you read the Law you may recognize yourself and your works, and confess, but it is by confessing that Jesus has already taken and paid for it by His works of baptism and crucifixion that He has solved our problem and made us sinless and resurrected for our new spiritual life.
He has thus fulfilled the Law and loved us.
So again, are you sinless and still sinless? Have you been saved forever according to His intricate Word and Name? He told us to be holy as He is (1Pet1:16), not only outwardly in appearance of men, but to live and walk in the Holy Spirit.

The only way to be saved is to persevere in the Faith until the end. Praying a sinner's prayer (which, ironically, is nowhere to be found in Holy Writ) does little except confuse people into thinking they don't need to do anything else. That is the furthest thing from the Truth!

You have a point, but how does the perseverance happen? Are any of us up to the task? It is the Holy Spirit placed within us that accomplishes both the regeneration, the sanctification, the growth, and the perseverance. This is all by the power of God, not of works, though yes, we MUST work. And we will, if God wills --if God has chosen and redeemed us.

The Elect are God's choice, and he will complete what he has begun. There will be no substitutes for the members of the Bride of Christ.

Hmmm. Maybe I shouldn't post here. I feel like this discussion has been had at least 9000 times on this forum alone. :liturgy:
Hahaha! I know the feeling!

We still find ourselves in sin, yes, even if only a matter of the heart as you mentioned. But because Christ met the demands of the law, we are free from the law, so that our sin is no longer a legal one requiring the penalty of the second death, but a moral one only.

John 3
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
