Quackery and trumpery are not unheard of among people with letters (Dr.) in front of or behind (PhD) their names. Sometimes you can be really smart in a particular tiny aspect of some important discipline of human knowledge ... and be a complete idiot in most everything else.

The pathology report describes the pathologist’s diagnosis based on his or her examination of a tissue sample taken from your tumor, or in the case of blood cancers, a sample taken from one of your lymph nodes or bone marrow. Social distance , Faceguard, mask, multiple glove changes, multiple hand washing, hazmat suit. And stay away from people, if you can. Our government failed us big time. In January and February. Everyone coming from different countries . Should have been forced into quarantine. America was warned big time and our president , vice failed big time.

On November 19, 2020 the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Royal College) was made aware of statements regarding COVID-19 by a Royal College Fellow, Dr. Roger Hodkinson. In some online references, Dr. Hodkinson is being incorrectly identified as a chair/past-chair of the Royal College.

We would like to clarify that Dr. Hodkinson is not nor has ever held the position of chairman of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

We can confirm that Dr. Roger Hodkinson was certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as a general pathologist in 1976.

It clarifies a claim that some made about him incorrectly. Here are his credentials from the website of his company, and he outlines something similar in the speech.

• General practitioner in the UK and Canada
• Staff pathologist at the Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta
• Pathologist with the Medical Examiner’s Office in Edmonton determining the cause of death
• Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta
• President of the Alberta Society of Laboratory Physicians
• Chairman of a Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons committee in Ottawa
• CEO of a large private medical laboratory in Edmonton, Alberta

I would say his comments are imprecise, but he is raising some issues a number of others have raised.

For instance, on the question of aerosol transmission, he is certainly not alone in thinking the virus can transmit through that fashion. This is an ongoing debate.

Protecting against COVID’s Aerosol Threat

The CDC has now indicated while it doesn't think it is the main path of transmission that in some environments it is possible:

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Pathogens that are mainly transmitted through close contact (i.e., contact transmission and droplet transmission) can sometimes also be spread via airborne transmission under special circumstances. There are several well-documented examples in which SARS-CoV-2 appears to have been transmitted over long distances or times. These transmission events appear uncommon and have typically involved the presence of an infectious person producing respiratory droplets for an extended time (>30 minutes to multiple hours) in an enclosed space. Enough virus was present in the space to cause infections in people who were more than 6 feet away or who passed through that space soon after the infectious person had left. Circumstances under which airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 appears to have occurred include:

• Enclosed spaces within which an infectious person either exposed susceptible people at the same time or to which susceptible people were exposed shortly after the infectious person had left the space.
• Prolonged exposure to respiratory particles, often generated with expiratory exertion (e.g., shouting, singing, exercising) that increased the concentration of suspended respiratory droplets in the air space.
• Inadequate ventilation or air handling that allowed a build-up of suspended small respiratory droplets and particles.

Now the idea that masking and distancing have no impact seems to be an overstatement. But if it is spread by aerosol droplets more often than originally thought then that may mean that such measures are less helpful than hoped.

It is interesting how many people think masks will keep them from getting a virus. The idea is to slow down the escape of the virus from the mask wearer. Anybody can get a virus already in the air through their eyes, ears, nose, mouth or any orifice. Think of it as a man wearing pants. Less chance of getting pee on you if his fly remains closed.

Opinion is divided. Victoria Australia has just relaxed mask requirements for people outdoors. It could not come at a better time as it's getting hot here. Masks are no fun in summer. The reality is that a few months ago, COVID was a major problem. Now it's been 3 weeks since a new case. Masks have been a major part of the solution.

The cheap masks most people wear are only partly effective. But if everyone is wearing a mask, the effect is multiplied. Theoretical arguments are one thing, practical results another.

And yet I did. But you posted it, so I responded to it. I have a Dr in front of my name, and my PhD is actually in virology. This guy has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.
