In the Gospel of John 2:6 Jesus was invited to a wedding at Cana. They were out of wine. Jesus saw 6 stone water jars and asked the servants to fill the jars with water. They did. The water then turned to wine by divine intervention.

At Capernaum, a town were Jesus lived, there are the remains of a Byzantine era synagogue built over the floor of a synagogue used during the first century. I visited the place and took a photo of five limestone water jars found by archaeologists there on display.

The Talmudic Jews thought stone vessels were more pure than pottery vessels.
