An early sign of the shift came last month, when Erik Noble, a former White House policy adviser who had just been appointed NOAA’s chief of staff, removed Craig McLean, the agency’s acting chief scientist.

McLean had sent some of the new political appointees a message that asked them to acknowledge the agency’s scientific integrity policy, which prohibits manipulating research or presenting ideologically driven findings.

The request prompted a sharp response from Noble. “Respectfully, by what authority are you sending this to me?” he wrote, according to a person who received a copy of the exchange after it was circulated within NOAA.

McLean answered that his role as acting chief scientist made him responsible for ensuring that the agency’s rules on scientific integrity were followed.

The following morning, Noble responded. “You no longer serve as the acting chief scientist for NOAA,” he informed McLean, adding that a new chief scientist had already been appointed. “Thank you for your service.”

It is entirely likely that President Trump's beloved Mar a Lago could be completely flooded in the frequent and more dangerous hurricanes we see every year. "It is located in Palm Beach County on the Palm Beach barrier island, with the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Florida's Intracoastal Waterway to the west."
If that happens, I will reserve my sympathy for all the innocent people whose properties will be irreparably damaged. His policies cause it, and the tragedy is the devastation his climate policies have wreaked all over the country--forest fires, hurricanes, and floods.
Our city suffered flooding last year, and although we are on high ground several friends were out of their homes for many months.
FEMA doesn't cover their losses--they will cover temporary housing, but the loss is yours. One family had just paid off their mortgage and were sending their son off to college. Now they have a new mortgage.

That is disturbing. Another four years of this and we will have no democracy, no free press, and scientists will be forced underground.

Yea, the same railing on about, "climate change", also tend to be on the same side as the folks telling everyone biology is a social construct and men can also have periods. Neither the Left nor Dems get to pontificate on Science as though it were their own creation.

Regarding "climate change", the models from 20 years ago predicting doom and gloom now haven't really panned out. Why would I trust today's projections given their demonstrable failures thus far?

This isn't the matrix. Computer generated oracles that see decades into the future is science fiction. Not actual science.

No, actually, the models from 15+ years ago have proven to be quite accurate.

In the 70's, it was global cooling, then global warming before a lul in heating forced it to become climate change, a misnomer if ever there was one. Climates change. From plate tectonics, to the fossil record to ice core samples to a core foundational precept of evolution, survival of the fittest... climates change.

And by your own graph, the rise in temps is in line with the standard fluctuations in global temps going back to the end of the Younger Dryas.

My contention isn't that human behavior isn't harming the environment, but that carbon dioxide is a rather miniscule issue that is being levied more like an economic sledgehammer than an existential threat.

If this were an asteroid on it's way to annihilate us, we wouldn't seek to solve the problem with the equivalent of a carbon tax, for instance.

I know two men who get periods. Transgender people exist. No one is claiming that cisgender men get periods.

Yes, they have.

What qualifies you to make statements about what is and isn’t science?

Yes, they have.

Sorry, you know some females who have periods. What they think they are in their head doesn't change their biology. This isn't Schrodinger's cat, their sex has already been observed.

[STAFF EDITED]

Science is a method of testing for results. Science general isn't all actual rocket science.

They're models can't account for new technology, wars, solar weather, or mass natural disasters. To act like they're some type of vaunted authority is ridiculous.

They might still be biological females but their gender is man. Sex and gender isn't the same.

The two terms were used synonymously for decades if not longer. Its only when linguistic sophists decided to codify and normalize a mental condition on the back of the gay rights movement did those terms get set apart. Men/Males don't get periods.

This is why we can't have luxury, space bound communism.

You should learn the science instead of right wing talking points.

OK random right wing nobody on the internet.

I'll stick with the expertise of professionals in the relevant field, thank you very much.

All I'm saying, is this is exactly why people laugh at you when you act as though you're the one with a lock on Science.

Which people? Right wing evangelicals? Who cares what they think...

If you disagree with scientists then you better bring your A game with a plethora of evidence otherwise why would I take your word over the word of experts?

Most normal people not down with woke, PC culture and who know their way around the topic.

As for A game and evidence galore, I started another topic on this board with just that, and so far the respondents would rather call me tinfoilman, than look at what was presented.

This is about ideaology. People with degrees and letters after their name can fall prey to bad ideology, too.

Right, the disagreement is about what we call people, not what their actual biology is. No Scientist is actually saying that biological males get periods. So disparaging scientists that way is dishonest. Climate change scientists aren’t writing papers on gender identity.

They're models can't account for new technology, wars, solar weather, or mass natural disasters. To act like they're some type of vaunted authority is ridiculous
. They aren’t “vaunted authority.” Again, what authorizes you to make these judgements? What are your credentials?

Oh! What a wonderful thought! A perfect utopia, with Trump at the helm. I pray that the Evangelicals can pull it off a second time.
