The gentile world views us Christians as egotistical, conservative, non conformist and hateful people. They see that we acceot our Father's laws and commandments but it contradicts with the gentile's agenda. Is it morally wrong in the sense of carnal minded 21st century that we still hold onto such "old beliefs". Further, aren't we sinning by being devout Christians by proclaiming Our God, the One and True God is the Creator. Because then can't the heathen brand us as unaccepting and highminded/prideful and look down on others? Either way I will always fight the good fight of faith. I will never fall from my faith in God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am mainly asking these queations to help me further my strength in thr Lord because I am curious about this "contradiction" especially concerning the heathen way of thinking (majority of 21st century).

As believers who trust in God, and the Lord Jesus Christ. We know in our heart what is true that is He, Jesus. We know we have the spirit that God gives us, and it resides with-in, that helps us in our fleshly body. We can stand the winds of the world, and are able to love even unbelievers...

How awesome is that. I have been a prideful Christian, when the fact of learning about Jesus had me setup as a babe in Christ.

Oh how us children can be, prideful and hard of hearing which causes us to make a lot of mistakes.

You can be devout, and still love others.

Though, as a babe reading the bible for the first time, and the bible has a whole lot of the word 'you'. Sure sounds like Jesus is talking directly to you, and you better do everything he says other wise you do not really love him.

Oh how I read that bible, and I looked and judged others in the world... (This has changed by the spirit) My flesh had to come down from it's prideful ways.

If you love God, and the Lord Jesus, you will be able to handle most situations dealing with someone who might be giving you a hard time, by the spirit that resides in you because of patience, gentleness, faith, kindness, goodness...

Is being a devout Christian considered being prideful?
This is kind of a weird question to me.

de·vout
/dəˈvout/
adjective: devout
having or showing deep religious feeling or commitment.

God does not want us to be distracted by religion.

Instead of "devout," I would say
  • surrendered,
  • obedient,
  • devoted,
  • yielded, etc.
Then, "Is being a surrendered Christian considered being prideful?"

Seeking to be a surrendered Christian is not prideful.

If you believe that you have somehow arrived at that standard, that IS prideful.

"He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
  • But to do justly,
  • To love mercy,
  • And to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8 NKJV

The world does not understand Christianity at all. It is the world that is full of pride and rebellion. Christians are those who have accepted that they are sinners in need of a saviour. If they are looking down their nose at unbelievers then that is sin and they need to cut it out.

The world seeks any excuse to reject the truth and reject Christ. Unfortunately some Christians give the world an excuse. The world hates and fears real Christians, just as they hate and fear Jesus. Lord Jesus warned us that this would happen.

God does not change, neither do His standards and His morality. It is the world that rejects God's ways and mocks those who are faithful to God's standards. Expect nothing else. Why should we accept sin, evil, ingratitude, pride and rebellion? God does not.

This thread should be in a Christians-only forum.

I'm not a Christian believer. But I know that being haughty, self-centered, and filled with pride are not commendable traits for anyone. And they definitely don't make for good Christian witness.

In the old church doctrine of the Middle Ages, pride was one of the 7 cardinal sins. In fact, it was considered the worst of the deadly 7.

It sounds like you are equating devotion with activism. Is that right?

Nope. Nonchristians have no difficulty separating hateful Christians from nonhateful ones.

I will never fall from my faith in God

Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Since your thoughts seems to be based upon this statement it is unfortunate that the statement is false.
  • The diversity of views of Christians is considerable. Arguably the only thing that can be said with certainty is that the views are diverse.
  • Some Christians are egotistical, but no more so than any random selection of humanity.
  • There are conservative Christians, but to it would be require tightly closed eyes to think this was a standard or typical feature.
  • I'm having trouble reconciling conservative with non-conformist. It's a possible combination, but hardly a common one.
  • Well, I didn't realise just how much hate was expressed by some Christians till I spent time on this forum, but I still don't see it as typical.
I'm intrigued as to what led you to have this misunderstanding of how Christians are perceived. Would you share your thoughts?

I second the above.

It's not so much about devoutness in and of itself, but about how much you proclaim it, and how much you badger other people into trying to do the same as you - particularly if you're being a hypocrite.

This is more of an individual Christian / denominational thing than a 'Christian' thing overall. If you are keeping your beliefs to yourself, then I don't really have an issue. Some Christians and some Christian denominations are really not very good at this, however. I'd personally IME single out evangelicals as being particularly poor at this - clue's in the name. Baptists too.

These denominations seem to me to be profoundly insecure religious beliefs, where it is rarely ever merely enough to just have your own faith - everyone else and society at large must bend to it as well. I don't particularly like them now, but then again, I didn't particularly care for them as a Christian either, as they have quite a holier-than-thou attitude to other denominations. So I would argue this is not a Christian vs Gentile thing. It is more that some individual Christians (which tend to cluster in particular denominations) are pretty preachy and don't live and let live, and thus kind of suck.

she’s picturing a fun, playful, and exciting banter

I understand that there are gentiles who see Christians as egotistical no matter what….but we are in danger of being egotiscal...sin is crouching at our door....we have to be careful….and if were are going to be used by God to touch people’s hearts and soften their hearts to possibility of Jesus coming into their life, I’m not sure labelling gentiles is the best way to be used by God….in God’s hands we can affect their lives and by lives, our example can point them to Christ…

So we have to be thoughtful about this

Someone may believe they fully understand the one true God in their minds eye. I guess that sounds arrogant to a lot of people.
I think a lot of the problems come from an implication of superiority of people over one another.
