Salvation is really the simplest thing ever. Just believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and he will save you. Do you think he died for your sins just so that he could confuse you by making salvation confusing?

Just pray, "Okay Jesus, I now believe in you. Just give me salvation right now."

If you pray that and you mean it, you're saved and you will go to heaven. I mean it's really simple. There's just so much confusion about this subject on this forum that it makes me sad.

If getting to heaven was as easy as that then I think the Christian martyrs throughout history would be turning in their graves.

I agree BB1611. For just what you said.. I agree. "If you pray that and you mean it," amen. There is a reason I believe its far easier to be saved than lost. I understand other groups might see this differently. Praise God He sees the heart

I don't think those Christian martyrs believed in Jesus then. If you believed in Jesus, why would the concept of believing in Jesus make you turn in your grave? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense haha.

I don't understand your comment, do you mean that when these dear ones were tortured and burnt at the stake they didn't believe in Jesus??

The very fact that they did, and believed that every person should hear the gospel and be able to read it in their own Bibles meant that they gave up their lives for the privilege of that freedom, that each one of us benefit from ever since.
Our Bibles are paid for by the blood of these brave, godly men and women who were empowered by God to withstand horrors we can't imagine.

Have you ever read " Foxes Christian Martyrs of the World?"
I firmly believe this should be read by every single Christian.

I don't know what they believed. But if they believed in Jesus when they were burnt at the stake, then wouldn't they agree that salvation is simple.

So I would encourage you to read the book and you will then know they very much believed AND followed Jesus.

The message of salvation in itself is simple.
It does come with a price however, it cost Jesus His life on the cross.
Just as it costs us ours in that we lose our life (living for ourselves) to follow Jesus in obedience and faith.

Anything else is cheap grace.

And our salvation is "the pearl of great price"

God's grace is either free or so expensive that no-one can buy it. There's no other options.

Matthew 19:
24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
25 When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
26 But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

I think sometimes that there are many people in the world today who believe that Christianity never existed prior to the 16th century. Come to my neighbourhood where I can show you settlements and relics of people who were worshipping Christ hundreds and even thousands of years ago. In fact most of the churches in my town have been around long before John Calvin. If it wasn't for their faithfulness, their bravery, their courage and commitment to what they believed, there would be no Christianity in my country. I, for one, am eternally grateful to God for their witness and example.

I do agree with you that becoming a Christian requires us to make a decision to follow Christ. But where I differ with you is that I don't think that discipleship is always as simple as we think. Jesus said "Not everyone who calls me Lord Lord will enter the kingdom of God". We have to be living our lives according to His will. Loving our neighbour as ourselves, showing charity towards others. Jesus taught us to take up our cross daily and follow Him. The point I made about Christian martyrs is that many people throughout history suffered tremendous persecution through their willingness to remain loyal and faithful to the gospel.

Your suggested prayer does not match what you said about Jesus in your first paragraph, second sentence.

Paul's foundational gospel proclamation was that Jesus is the Christ and contained information on who & what "YHWH's Christ" means & is from Psalm2 (Acts18:5 & 13:16-41). When understood, this information would let people know to submit to the authority of Jesus who is The Christ (or The Lord Jesus Christ as you first mentioned) - the one with all authority in Heaven & on earth (Matt28:18 in what we now call the Great Commission commanded by Jesus Christ).

You can simplify this message into being insufficient to save. You can leave Christ & Salvation undefined. Your suggested prayer does just that.

Receiving Eternal Life (salvation) is easier than that, all a person has to do is believe, no prayer is needed.

So easy??? I am a former conservative Lutheran who wandered into a non-denominational church where the pastor denied most of what I believed in, including penal substitutionary atonement.

Perhaps it is easy but theological camps befuddled the concept.

You need to repent in your heart, and admit you sinned and you deserve hell. Problem is, our human heart is so corrupt with sin, that unless it is get renewed by the Holy Spirit you will not repent. Salvation is the work of God. You can only pray that God has mercy on you, that He shows you who you really are and that He saves you from your sin.

Without repentance in your heart there's no salvation. Because our hearts are corrupt in sin, it has to be renewed by the Holy Spirit, pray therefore everyday that the Spirit renews your heart.

If our actions don't express our beliefs, then it would be impossible to distinguish between a believer and a non-believer. There is no sense in someone wanting salvation while not wanting what it entails.

True Christian martyrs throughout history died because of this easy and simple gospel... Nice try though.

OP don't even try arguing with the carnal mind of humans. They just don't get it. They think the gospel is unfair, it's what satan teaches in this world since you are born. Get to work so you can get paid. Get to work so you can be a member of this church or religion. Get to work, Get to work. And yet God who is not of this world does things differently... He says to REST. He says your works are like filthy rags. He does things differently by sending his only begotten Son as a sacrifice for our sins. And he says THE WORK IS FINISHED! Very few people believe this and so they are on the broad way of religion. Just pray for people who still trust partly in themselves and their works that God gives them repentance unto the acknowledging of the truth.

These Christians were martyred because they remained faithful despite intense persecution. The path of Christianity is certainly not "simple and easy" for someone being tied to a stake and being slowly roasted to death, especially if they had the option of recanting and sparing their own lives.
And let's not forget that many of the martyrs spoke prayers of forgiveness for their perpetrators. Not very easy to do when they are in unspeakable agony and when their enemies watching them are delighting and revelling in their suffering.
If they believed in "once saved forever saved", perhaps by recanting they could spare their lives and keep their salvation! No, these early Christians thought it absolutely unthinkable that a believer could renounce the faith and still keep their salvation.
Being a Christian isn't simply about saying the "sinners prayer" and believing the right things about Jesus. It is about laying down one's life for him, and remaining true and faithful for the rest of their lives.

So salvation requires speaking a special magical incantation? That sounds needlessly complicated to me.

Why not just believe what the Bible says? That salvation is God's work and gift for us, it isn't about us having to say the right words, think the right thoughts, or perform the right works.

St. Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-9 that we are saved by grace, through faith, and that this isn't of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not by our efforts.

It is grace alone through faith, on Christ's account alone.

Not, "Say these words" or "believe these propositions" etc. It's Jesus Christ and what He has done, which is ours through faith--a faith that is given to us as pure gift.

Why complicate it by adding to what Scripture says?

"For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matthew 11:30

If they were true Christian martyrs they died for the real gospel (that is heavily attacked right now, even by you) and believed in One Saved Forever Saved.

"Being a Christian isn't simply about saying the "sinners prayer" and believing the right things about Jesus." - Only half of this statement is true. And by the way, you don't believe the right things about Jesus because you still trust in your works. Even though the gospel is easy, few be there that find it because they think it's too good to be true. Jesus is the narrow way though, not your works.

"It is about laying down one's life for him, and remaining true and faithful for the rest of their lives." - And yet you have no scripture to back that up... Just a religious quote you learned from man that feeds your pride and your flesh. Again, nice try though. The truth is he laid down his life for us and I can show you plenty of scriptures of that, Christ crucified. So you actually have a twisted satanic gospel by saying you have to lay down your life for him to be saved.
