The pope has said in the past that it is a contradiction to speak of gay marriage, and he has stood by the fact that sexual acts can only happen in the context of marriage.

So taking this to mean that he is somehow giving a stamp of approval to homosexual acts is not accurate.

Now do I think that it opens the door to people interpreting it as that. And given his history of confusion and then not trying to really clear up the record it's a massive massive problem. Oh yeah.

It is possible that I am confused on what is meant by a civil union. Maybe in most of the world a civil union is understood to be a non-sexual union? I have my doubts but it is possible.

(In North America a civil union is basically "marriage lite," and usually civil union rights are a stepping stone to marriage rights)

I'll have to watch that Matt Fradd is always good
I just watched it. Not anything most of us did not already know but still sidesteps the much needed transparency, clarification, and teaching reassurance to the flock. Yeah people fail in all aspects of life but there is a difference in failure and outright carelessness.

It is doubtful to me that @Michie watched the whole video. The points that I found most interesting began at 10:00 - long after most people have stopped watching.
I watched the whole video zippy. Please do not start.

Well, you said this:

...but still sidesteps the much needed transparency, clarification, and teaching reassurance to the flock.

Fradd spends a very large portion of the video literally begging the hierarchy to provide clarification and teaching reassurance.

How you managed to watch the video and yet claim it "sidesteps" these points is beyond me.

Yes mentioning gaslighting each other and he wants them to clearly answer but we must realize like parents, some clergy fail, etc. that’s still sidestepping and laying an excuse out there. Sorry I did not find the video excellent.

I wonder if the Pope would be happy with heterosexual "civil unions". As far as the right to have a family--what about the unmarried, celibate priests?
The Pope is acting like society--chipping away at God's teachings with nonsensical theories.

"We must realize like parents, some clergy fail." That statement takes up five seconds of the video (20:21-20:25) and is a quote from a book that is criticizing the current hierarchy and Pope!

So sure, if you focus on a non-representative quote from a book that literally takes up 0.3% of the entire video, Fradd is just sidestepping the issue and making excuses. Granted.

I know it’s been spreading rampantly lately. I was seeing it in Protestant Churches before I converted. Now it’s pretty blatant in the Catholic Church as well.

I think it's more popular in mainline denominations that evangelical ones (in my experience, at least). However, more and more denominations are going the whole woke "open and affirming" route.

(In North America a civil union is basically "marriage lite," and usually civil union rights are a stepping stone to marriage rights)

To me, it's basically marriage without calling it marriage.

What's next? Telling heterosexual couples God approves of them shacking up before marriage?

From my perspective the Church must show a united front and start disciplining nuns and clergy who continually go against what the Church teaches. If the Church can cover up everything it has it can certainly correct those that are out there sowing seeds of confusion. But for some reason does not and lets it continue. And part of the job is the pope learning to clarify the things he says.

Zippy, it was not just that. While I agree with most of what he said, I am disappointed in what he did not say. And look, I know I’m not your fave around here but I do have a right to say that he did not say anything we have not heard before. Just because zippy thinks something is excellent does not mean we all will. And it does not warrant inferring I’m a liar when I plainly stated I watched the whole thing. I would not of said it if I didn’t.

Say whatever you like, but if you throw shade then expect light. You are often very concerned with your own right to say things and yet seem to disregard others' right to contradict you.

He seems much more interested in politics than the faith.

Legal shacking up and all that entails.

By the way, does God make people gay as the pope said? Does He also make them
adulterers, etc.? Yes we are born with the stain of original sin in a fallen world but did God make it so or???
Any takers?

Michie, there is no need to respond to a single post three times. The last six posts of the thread are all from you, and three of them are a response to the same post. :sigh:

I've pointed out why I believe your assessment of Fradd is incorrect and misrepresentative. That was my aim. Farewell.
