Actually, those who are raptured will be gathered up and burned.

24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’

Why do people think being raptured is a good thing?
Because not everyone grabs a hold of one scripture and makes a theology out of it. Some study all references and find out what the Word has to say on the subject.

I suppose one should worry if one is likened to a toxic weed, a.k.a. tare or bearded darnel. While the weeds were burned, the farmer kept the wheat and put it in his barn.

Another passage to illuminate this subject:
Matthew 25:31 (WEB) “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you took me in. 36 I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we see you as a stranger and take you in, or naked and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and come to you?’

40 “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

44 “Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’

45 “Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’ 46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

A Palestinian shepherd wrote about tending flocks. He described separating the sheep and goats before letting them go to the trough, lest the goats use their horns to push away the sheep. It reminded me to be polite while driving.

I did study the other references in the book of Matthew.

The book of Matthew seems to be discussing an event where the evil will be taken away first, and then the good ones will be gathered.

If there is another event speaking of something else, Matthew cannot be used to support it.

There are problems with bullying in the public school system.
They tend to start in church, teaching kids they're better than everyone else.

Why do people think being raptured is a good thing?

Because that's not the rapture. The last couple of verses of Isaiah 26 offers an experiential view of those raptures prior to the coming Trib beginning.

You are right. Thank you for stating this very Biblical but very contrarian view. Most of the folks who want to be raptured think it's a good thing though.

Because there is major deception... the enemy has people thinking they WANT to be taken away.

the wicked are taken away, not the righteous. The righteous will live on the new earth - they aren’t “going to heaven”.

The wicked will finally be removed so God can dwell on the earth with his children who were left behind after judgement day.

They tend to start in church, teaching kids they're better than everyone else.
You are speaking of a human condition, not a Christian one, although since we Christians are still human and plagued with the flesh for now, you will find it also in the church, esp. Orthodox anything.

It started with the most basic and probably pre-historic social orders. Some erroneously call it survival of the fittest but that fails to address the socialization process. There is a social science term which describes what you are talking about. It is the process by which man:
  • solidified and strengthened his tribes/groupings,
  • created a sense of belonging in the group,
  • created a means of identification of group "membership" (friend/foe),
  • created a motivation for contributing to the group,
  • established ways, means, and behavioral norms of the group,
  • protected and ensured longevity of the group,
  • among other things.
Unfortunately, human pride compounded by fear tainted/taints the process and instills a sense of superiority into the mix.

Well aren't the tares the weeds growing with the wheat?
Like the separating of the goats and sheep etc.
Christians aren't the weeds, they are the wheat.
As they are the sheep not the goats.

The tares (weeds) represent the wicked.

the wheat represents the righteous.

The world is the field that both grow in.

Messiah explained this to his disciples when they asked him what it meant... Matthew 13:36-43

Judgement day is likened to a farmer(Christ) sending his workers(angels) to harvest the wheat(the righteous) and separate the weeds(the wicked) that was growing in the field(the world) along with the wheat(the righteous) and getting rid of the weeds(the wicked) by burning them, and saving the wheat(the righteous).

It’s a parable teaching of the final judgement of the righteous and the wicked on judgement day when Christ returns.

First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them

I've seen a lot of postulation on the rapture, but I've never seen this one.
Getting raptured into a giant bug-zapper lol... Oops!
I can see the surprised cinders raining down already...
Kudos on asking the question.

Hmm.

Why do people think being raptured is a good thing?

==
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. 17 After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.
==

I'm guessing a lot of the tare binding and burning is happening pre (this event). We "who are alive and remain"; the rapture event is the wheat gathering, I think the tares are happening before.
Doesn't sound like there is anything to fear or not look forward to in the verses above for those who are raptured in the way this describes, but I think the verses above do suggest that the rapture is taking place after the tares are gathered and bound (i.e. not pre-tribulation, perhaps mid or end)

Jesus states that it will be "as in the days of Noah (and Lot)" when he comes. The primary message there is that it was the righteous who were snatched away and protected, while those that remained were destroyed.

Lk17v26And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

So it would be concerning if the people who think they are the wheat are desiring to be treated as weed, is it not?

1) as in the days of Noah and as in the days of Sodom this illustrates the removal of the wicked.
2) On the day when the Son of Man is revealed so possibly sixth seal or rev 19.
