Hi,

Why don't I appreciate Jesus's atonement for my sins? Likewise, why don't I appreciate Jesus at all?

I can factly agree that Jesus died for my sins and was raised from the dead. However, I cant seem to really appreciate and treasure this in my heart (no matter how hard I try).

Due to this, I have been using this as evidence to support the fact I am definitely not saved (note, I do believe in God, but - - > James 2:19)

I don't think Jesus is willing to save me since I can't appreciate and understand him enough. Is my heart hardened? Was I given over to a reprobate mind?

If you can follow the reasoning through the question is do you believe it?

Never mind ' feelings ', is it true, are you prepared to live in the light of that knowledge?

You have discribes yourself as ' Christian ', well what is it that makes anyone a Christian?
I'll give you a clue, it has nothing to do with what or how you ' feel '.

Here is the honest answer. We do not know.

And you haven't lived out the whole of your life, either.

Why can't I seem to appreciate his atonement?
Because He has not blessed you to.
How can I truly appreciate what he has done on the cross?
Trust Him to bless you to.

And do not trust any thinking or whatever which keeps you from being so blessed.

Read God's word, and feed on how His word means we can become like Jesus and love like Jesus. We are here to please God, first. So, are we concerned about being pleasing to God? Or, are we mainly attentive to what we want? This can effect how much we appreciate Jesus.

If we appreciate how Jesus is, this can help us to appreciate His atonement which He made for us. Thank Him :) He suffered and died like that, and Jesus is God's own Son > consider how un-conceited Jesus is, that Jesus God's own Son left Heaven itself and came to us humans. And then Jesus went through all that, on Calvary's cross, so humbly for ones who did not want Him.

But God has changed us to appreciate this. This goes for all of us . . . not only you. Every child of God has come to love Christ because God has changed us to do this.

So, now you have us praying for you; you are not on your own! :)

And we all need to appreciate Christ more. This comes, in my opinion, as we ourselves more and more love like Jesus has loved us > all Jesus has done for us is our example >

"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." (Ephesians 5:2)

So, trust God to save you and make you a loving person so in loving you can appreciate how Jesus has loved us.

only if you are a truly born again person, can you really appreciate the Greatness of what the Lord has done for you. However, we cannot live by "feelings" alone, as the devil is very good at making sure that these "feelings" are always negative, and cause use to doubt our relationship with Jesus Christ. Keep on praying to the Lord, and ask Him to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and with all His Power, Comfort, Love, and Perfect Peace, and hand over ALL your doubts to Him, because He does care VERY much for you!

Seems to me as if you are looking for some existential emotional experience.

Yes, and that may not come and may not even be important.

Where is your will? Not your emotions.

You should first just read the Gospels and understand who the Lord Jesus is a whole before trying to understand the atonement. If you don't know who Christ is you won't understand/appreciate the atonement either.

So just how do you know Christ?

Journey with him slowly through the Gospels with an open heart. And talk to him.

Long story short. When I was 19, I found myself reading the Gospel of John over and over again many times. I came to know a man that I could not compare with any other. No one ever talked like this man or walked like this man, and did the things he did. I became convinced of him. I believed. I put my faith in him, my life was transformed!

At that time I couldn't explain "atonement" to you even if I tried, or much other "theology" for that matter...but nothing could pull me away from following Jesus, plain and simple.

43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me." [Jhn 1:43 NIV]

That's lovely how you came to marvel Jesus more and more.

It has been quite the opposite for me. I have heard and read the gospels (by myself) for a couple of years. I have been raised in a good Christian household (I know a lot of theology, but this doesn't matter to me at all). So learning about Jesus isn't new to me. However, I have never been able to "marvel" Jesus in a way like that.

Thanks. I was very fortunate to meet the Lord in such a way, cause I was not raised a Christian. Yeah, don't let the "theology" get in the way of just knowing Jesus, even if you already know him to some extent. No books, no sermons, no "advisors", just the Lord Jesus. Be blessed.

If you want to appreciate him and what he did for you, then obey him. If you won't do that, feelings won't be much help to you. My advice? Try to do the next thing as he would have you to do it. And after that, do the next right thing. Do that for a bit and then see if you appreciate him. It's a process. ;)

Hello Jaedan,

You asked :
Why don't I appreciate Jesus's atonement for my sins? Likewise, why don't I appreciate Jesus at all?

You are living in unbelief, that is, failed to be persuaded about the truth of God’s words.

Though you have said :
I can factly agree that Jesus died for my sins and was raised from the dead. However, I cant seem to really appreciate and treasure this in my heart (no matter how hard I try).
Due to this, I have been using this as evidence to support the fact I am definitely not saved (note, I do believe in God, but - - > James 2:19)

It is because you have never GIVEN THANKS for what the Lord Jesus Christ have done for you.

This is also that we have heard:
Many are the sorrows of the wicked, but steadfast love SURROUNDS THE ONE who trusts in the LORD. -Psalms 32:10

Since you have not trusted, how can this steadfast love surround you ?

It is not Jesus unwilling to save you but this is what we have heard:
So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. -Hebrews 3:19
