I hope Judge Amy Barrett, a highly accomplished and successful lawyer, recognizes that she is where she is today due to the efforts of Ruth Ginsberg's (and others before her) to fight for women's equality.

I hope she realizes she got where she got mostly due to her own talent and hard work.

ROFL! The "fear mongering" began the day Trump began running for president in 2015. Since then he has kept his followers in line by making them fearful of immigrants, black people, Asians, Muslims, etc.--while ignoring what Americans really need to be concerned about, COVID and climate change.

Americans are right to be concerned about Trump's appointing a justice, any justice, when Americans have already begun voting in six states. The election is underway, and, as he has failed to gain ground against Biden so far, he will almost definitely be a lame duck.

I just looked at the Senate polls, and Republicans are significantly behind in enough states (Arizona, Maine, North Carolina, Colorado) and tied or slightly behind in others (Iowa, Montana, and others) that Democrats should regain the Senate as well. We should be able to win one for democracy in November and remedy Trump's treachery in January.

The main problem is the Affordable Care Act, and that is a huge problem for 23 million people. While Trump says, "preexisting conditions will be covered" he never says, "preexisting conditions will be covered at a price sick people can afford."

But of course I guess "Medicare for All Who Want It" could change that in a Democratic administration. Medicare is far superior to any employer-based insurance I had since the 1980's, and since it would just be expanding a plan that has passed constitutional muster for years the Federalist Society Court couldn't do anything about it.

So don't be afraid, sick and uninsured people. We are coming to rescue you in January. Hang in there. We will protect you from those who don't care if you live or die.

...all of which would have not been possible had the groundwork not been laid by Ginsberg and those before her.

She also had the support of her husband, family and the South Bend community.

One can claim that any number of people laid groundwork for any number of other people. People's accomplishments are their own not someone else's.

She might, in private, but it won't stop her from making SCOTUS decisions base on her religious ideology.

Married women with wealthy husband's like Barrett and her predecessor Phyllis Schlafly don't realize how privileged has eased their path. A Congressional candidate like Corey Busch, who was homeless and lived in her car at one time in her life are worth a dozen Amy Barretts.

You knew about COVID in 2015?

This is why our country is so divided. You don’t care about truth, only hate and party affiliation. ACB’s opinion on the ACA is based on her understanding of the law, not that she does not care for others. What you said was a lie. Disagree with her opinion on the law but please stop telling lies about her.

Paul says in Romans to be at peace with others as far as it is possible and up to you. Telling lies about others is opposite of this teaching.

To her credit, she did acknowledge Ruth Ginsburg publicly at the WH ceremony yesterday:

....at 13:20
WATCH: Supreme Court Nominee Announcement

It will be interesting to see if that appreciation is reflected in future decisions that address equality not only for women, but for all Americans.

How does how you have lived or your financial situation determine how you interpret the Constitution? If it does, it shouldn't.

We hope it does not. It is possible to be both a conservative and a person of integrity. ;)

I think of Earl Warren, right-wing ideologue governor of California who was appointed Chief Justice by President Eisenhower. He went on to lead the decision in Brown v. Board, one of the most severe blows ever struck by the court against the Christian Right.

We all have a debt to our forebears. If Justice Ginsberg laid the track for anyone, it’s someone just like HERSELF. Soon to be Justice Barrett is a Justice Scalia protégé. She can thank him for going before her.

It's possible for a person to be wealthy and a person of integrity.

But that's not what we're discussing here, is it?
We're talking about how a judge will interpret the Constitution. Whether they were ever wealthy or poor it shouldn't have any effect on how they interpret the Constitution.

Personally, I prefer a conservative jurist. That view has nothing to do with their party affiliation but how they interpret the Constitution in a textual manner rather than a progressive/living document manner.
If the Constitution needs to be updated then that should be accomplished with an amendment.
If a law is found to be unConstitutional then the Congress/or a state legislature needs to step up and correct the law so that it meets the Constitutional standard, not the other way around.
