Why should people get shot over jaywalking?

Why do people refuse to listen and follow directions from law enforcement?

Why do people resist law enforcement?

Why do people take the offensive against the law, in this case and so many others, try to take the officers weapon?

One stupid act leads to another, to another, then someone is killed.

Two officers wrestle one homeless guy to ground and they can’t keep his arms from trying to get their guns which should have been in holsters anyway.

Likely story.

Of course they would claim it. It is like number one justifiable reason to shoot someone.

Let’s hope they had their body cameras on.

Not saying he was particularly smart. Just saying we have zero reason to believe officers unlikely tales either.

There must be tremendous pressure on those officers and their department to come up with justifiable reason why two cops shot another unarmed black man considering the current political climate.

why would someone on a squad named "homeless outreach team" escalate a situation to the point they had to shoot someone? What I saw was a classic "cop looking for a reason" scenario. he said "don't touch me!" and what did the cop KEEP doing? Touching him. Than when he's cranked up enough they jump on him and pretend he's going for one of their guns. Than they shoot him. I'm sure there will be an "investigation" and the result will be:

Why do people take the offensive against the law, in this case and so many others, try to take the officers weapon?
Maybe because cops keep killing people for jaywalking? Or sleeping? Or shopping? Or driving? Or any number of things all of which end with dead bodies and cops standing around waiting for people to jump in and defend them while blaming the victims for "not instantly doing whatever the cop demands they do!"?

One stupid act leads to another, to another, then someone is killed.
...by someone who's not actually supposed to be killing people for jaywalking. :sigh:

Now see, I have a big problem with this type attitude toward law enforcement.

Without the full investigation you have blamed law enforcement for a coverup right off the cuff.

This is the attitude that is burning down cities across the nation.

What happened to innocent before proven guilty?

You were there and saw everything, exactly how it took place, step by step.

So I'll take your word for it and condemn the cops.

What do you think, lethal injection or firing squad to set an example?

I'm thinking there more to it than that, you are being told what they want you to know.

There was probably suspicion of something else, something we don't know yet.

If the man had done as you or I would have done, he would still be alive

And that's part of the problem. Homeless people are more likely to suffer mental illness. In fact, it's rare that a homeless individual doesn't suffer from mental illness.

I do think we as a nation need to be figuring out a real and workable plan to deal with the mentally ill outside of leaving them on their own and homeless.

Decades ago we used to institutionalize those with mental health issues that led people unable to care for themselves instead of letting them be homeless and uncared for.

These days, people see that sort of program to be too harsh so you almost never see institutions anymore for these people... but the homelessness problem among the mentally ill is such a huge problem that I almost think we need to go back to that, or figure out something better...

Because this is the type of thing that had we done more for this man than leave his mental health problems unaddressed and allow him to be homeless and alone would have never happened.

You have zero towns being burned down by that attitude.

You have some civil unrest fueled by exactly these kinds of incidents.

How are you going to prove or disprove that suspect was trying to get someone’s gun if they were just wrestling in ground ?

How easy is it to cast doubt that even if they had cameras they didn’t see anything, which they probably didn’t because those guys were basically on top of each other.

Facts we know is that two trained officers who wrestled a homeless guy to the ground and felt they had to use deadly force despite the advantages they had.

Yeah, perhaps they were total incompetents and the victim decided he was so mad he wanted suddenly to suicide by a cop.

It just doesn’t feel quite probable does it ?

This is so true, it cuts straight to the problem.

My point is this, your attitude toward law enforcement is the same as the night shift protesters.

The cops are guilty, we need no further proof.

hmmm...if you and I shot someone would our word be all that's needed to keep us from being arrested for shooting an unarmed guy for jaywalking? Or is that "defend at all costs" knee jerk reaction only automatic for cops?

So I'll take your word for it and condemn the cops.
Well since you seemed to automatically assume the unarmed dead guy was at fault and the two trained and armed living guys aren't, it would seem you've already decided who should be condemned in this situation.

What do you think, lethal injection or firing squad to set an example?
What I think is: any time someone is killed for jaywalking? The people who killed them shouldn't be allowed to walk around with badges and guns and be automatically treated like they didn't do anything wrong.

Decades ago we used to institutionalize those with mental health issues that led people unable to care for themselves instead of letting them be homeless and uncared for.

And those institutions had horrible track records of poor care and neglect. And I agree alot more needs to be done both for the homeless and the disable but those old institutions and the massive amount of negligent deaths is why they were shutdown.
And also I do believe those officers need to be fired if your on a "homeless outreach team" and can't handle a jaywalking homeless person escalating the situation the way they did throughout the video then they need be doing something else security guard maybe.
