How many of you suffer pains in life and find it hard to pray or read scripture because of that?

For me, i suffer with anxiety, depression, bulging discs and burning pain on upper rear legs which means i cant really sit much. I have to lie down when home from work.

Pain fills my mind lots of the time during the day because of my bad lower back and the burning i get too. Plus having anxiety moments is not nice. I cringe when i see people sitting as that hurts and i get envious of them.

I do have a set routine of prayers i say. But, working through the pain and trying to concentrate can be difficult as 'pain' is always at the forefront of my thoughts. I dont read scripture much either. I just cant seem to 'get into it'.

I would love to sit at a desk and read the Bible or a spiritual book but, its very uncomfortable for me.

How do you cope?

Man that sucks to hear how much pain you bear when it comes to your legs, and your bulging disc. Having pains come and go in and through my life, its yet to be seen for me to hurt to badly. So, I do not know how to cope with that type of pain.

What happened that caused you end up bulging your discs?

Why do you suffer from depression, how do you deal with it? Sometimes my mind deals with sadness, and suffering just from the daily grind of going to work, go home eat, sleep, go back to work. Just left my job yesterday... maybe something better will come along.

This morning, speaking on the bible thought about how important it would be for me for the next month in the coming 30 days to read the bible but write along as reading matthew, mark, luke, and john again. The bible is very nice to read. New Testament is the one that was read the most in my life, though never completed the book of acts.

Would drinking a lot of water, and eating some fruits help you with your inflammation in your legs?

You always seem like a very cool guy and would be nice to eat with you. Bless you friend, lost4words.

I think you need to get yourself an audio Bible when unable to read, you can use this from mobile phone or computer. You can still pray lying down, I have done this when I was unwell.

Waw. So kind. Thank you so much.

My back has been getting worse as i get older. 56 now. I am waiting for injections in my spine. I think i ruined my back when a teen throwing weights around in the gym!

Depression and anxiety reared its head when i first got the burning pain 18 years ago and then worsened when i lost my dear mum and dad within a year and a week of each other.

I try and make humour on these forums to cheer people up. To have someone smile and laugh. Thing is, i might be dying inside. Its the same in work. Try and smile on the outside while sufferings inside.

I am so grateful to God for my faith though. I love God so much. I love my faith. Even though i am a big sinner.

I always try and offer up my suffering to God. Daily. I also ask Him to take it away! But, if not, just give me the strength to carry my cross.

God bless you my friend....such kind words from you.

Whenever I am experiencing unexpected or unusual pain that might cause concern,
I pray this verse which has granted me immediate relief on many, many occasions.
Jeremiah 17:14. Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed;
Save me, and I shall be saved,
For You are my praise.

Another good one.
Psalm 6:2. Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak;
O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

I almost pray constantly and listen to scripture being read or a sermon from a good source when having emotional or physical struggles but I’m not usually up to reading scripture myself.

L4W,

I'm sorry to hear you're hurting. Do you take anti-inflammatory drugs? They're really helpful. You can try an over the counter cream with capsicum for your back or use a heating pad when it flares. And ice packs for your knees.

Support wise, I recommend these. I have both. I use the lumbar cushion in bed and the other when sitting in a chair for long periods. They work well. :)

Everlasting Comfort Seat Cushion for Office Chair - Tailbone Cushion - Coccyx Cushion - Sciatica Pillow for Sitting (Black)

Everlasting Comfort Lumbar Support Pillow for Office Chair - Pure Memory Foam Lumbar Cushion for Car (Black)

CS,

Great advice. I love audio bibles! I have several but I enjoy the dramatized ones the most. It brings the word to life and I find myself laughing often. When I'm under the weather or experiencing spiritual warfare I play Psalms when I retire. I always sleep peacefully and wake feeling lighter. :)

@Lost4words you are a great blessing here to the community. Your words bring much joy and many smiles, especially as we are also going through similiar sufferings like yourself.

Our sufferings should not isolate or scatter us. But unite us in Christ. Thank you for not being discouraged, and for continuing to be part of this body of Christ.

I've given this advice out a lot. Bible gateway has an audio function for both the KJV and NIV. Just hit the speaker icon in the upper command bar, and the Bible is read to you out loud.

I've used this feature lots of times over the years. For years I had trouble reading and needed better glasses, but couldn't get a better prescription because it messed up my long distance vision. But this helped me a lot. It also is great when you lack motivation, are depressed etc. and can't concentrate etc. It also is great for multi tasking, like doing chores, or playing computer games that don't require intense concentration. where you would like some music or talk-radio etc. in the background but in this case you can get your dose of Bible that way.

Psalm 1 example links for KJV and NIV.

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 1 - King James Version

Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 1 - New International Version

What I love to do is to google verses I want to learn about, for example "Bible verses about pain" and then write those verses down and then find them from my bible. I have been struggling with concentration for myself so I know how it can be hard. What I learnt is that when I have strong relationship with Jesus that itself made me focused on what I needed to learn from bible. So I think it's part of Holy Spirit leading you. This is large topic to talk about but God is all about helping you. He doesn't want you to be in pain. Also you could listen podcasts which can give you inspiration for reading bible. Ask God to release you from your pain. Also learn about making your prayers powerful. Giving thanks is the key. I pray for you too.

Depression and anxiety reared its head when i first got the burning pain 18 years ago and then worsened when i lost my dear mum and dad within a year and a week of each other.

Did you use weights at school when you were younger? When you were in school did you ever play any sports ? What sports did you try out ? Did you have any favorite subjects in school? When did you graduate?

I try and make humour on these forums to cheer people up. To have someone smile and laugh. Thing is, i might be dying inside. Its the same in work. Try and smile on the outside while sufferings inside.

Your humor is wonderful, and it is well enjoyed by many people on the forums. God would desire you to do that, because he probably gets a laugh out of us from time to time.

What do you mean by dying inside?

When you mention work, are you having sometimes tough days, were you just try to seem like everything is okay, but on the inside suffering from the desire to be with Christ?

I am so grateful to God for my faith though. I love God so much. I love my faith. Even though i am a big sinner.

I always try and offer up my suffering to God. Daily. I also ask Him to take it away! But, if not, just give me the strength to carry my cross.

God bless you my friend....such kind words from you.

You do not have to answer any of my questions, if you choose not to. You are so welcome, and it really does suck that our bodies have to corrupt until the point, we take our last breath and we give it back to God.

One day, we are going to receive a new spiritual body - in my belief - that God will give to us according to his pleasure when we leave this world.

Thank you so much for openly talking more about yourself, Lost4words, and God bless you too dear friend. Glad we could talk a little more.

God bless all the people who have also responded!

Yes, tried various painkillers etc. I do take ibuprofen and paracetamol sometimes.

Thing is, i am in pain standing with my back and then, cant sit because of burning pain on upper rear legs/butt!

Waiting for injections in the spine for back. Doc thinks burning could be damaged nerves / coming from bulging discs..

L4W,

Ibuprofen becomes ineffective after a while. The body gets used to it. The block you're getting should help. But it addresses a region of pain. Not the entire back.

Do you experience numbness with the pain in your legs and buttocks? The sciatic nerve is usually impacted with bulging discs. Do you get tingling too?

Yours in His Service,

~Bella
