....according to sworn testimony by D.C. National Guard Maj. Adam D. DeMarco before a Congressional committee.

Just before noon on June 1, the Defense Department’s top military police officer in the Washington region sent an email to officers in the D.C. National Guard. It asked whether the unit had a Long Range Acoustic Device, also known as an LRAD, or a microwave-like weapon called the Active Denial System, which was designed by the military to make people feel like their skin is burning when in range of its invisible rays.

The technology, also called a “heat ray,” was developed to disperse large crowds in the early 2000s but was shelved amid concerns about its effectiveness, safety and the ethics of using it on human beings.

...
But in the email, on which DeMarco was copied, the lead military police officer in the National Capital Region wrote the ADS device “can provide our troops a capacity they currently do not have, the ability to reach out and engage potential adversaries at distances well beyond small arms range, and in a safe, effective, and nonlethal manner.”

The email continued: “The ADS can immediately compel an individual to cease threatening behavior or depart through application of a directed energy beam that provides a sensation of intense heat on the surface of the skin. The effect is overwhelming, causing an immediate repel response by the targeted individual.”

Well firstly, shame, shame, shame military. How dare you make the rays invisible. What the heck is the point of a heat ray if it isn't a bright yellow or orange in color? I mean seriously. That's heat ray 101.

Secondly, I'd suggest that people reading this take a quick 30 seconds to learn how microwaves work, because that "feel like your skin is burning" is caused by your insides actually cooking.

You (and the article) are confusing the LRAD with the Active Denial System. The latter does not cook one's insides.

Our government considered microwaving its own citizens. Okeydokey. When will this horrible nightmare be over?
When the Anti American traitors get off the streets, stop killing innocent people and burning out buildings. And their leaders way up top are jailed. That's coming in due time.

This weapon doesn't cook anyone's insides, and the sound wave device is just that, sound. Two different weapons, neither does what you said.

When people start acting civil again and not burning down buildings and forests.

Fair enough. Neither have any business on American streets.

...edit:

.....both the LRAD and ARD were requested:
DeMarco said without an LRAD device, which can be used to make booming announcements to large crowds, Park Police officers instead issued dispersal orders to the crowd using a handheld red-and-white megaphone.

Well, they will not start acting civilly until their grievances start getting addressed. They are so frustrated that they have taken to the streets to protest. Granted, some of them are so mad that they are looting and vandalizing, and others are using the protests for cover for those activities. But the core of this is the frustration with police brutality and mistreatment of minorities by police.

Some of them are so frustrated that they will keep doing this because once they stop they know they will be ignored again.

Well, they will not start acting civilly until their grievances start getting addressed.

Well then, as MLK said, they will be judged on the content of their character then. Many people, of all races, have significant grievances and do not commit lawless and criminal acts to alleviate those grievances.

I don't think that's necessarily true except in the minds of those just attending the march for the sake of peaceful solidarity. Are those people in the majority? I believe so. But this is a marxist movement, this isn't about police brutality anymore. I'm afraid that was just a useful excuse all along.

Ask yourself: Why are BLM website donations being funneled through ActBlue.com?

This isn't a civil rights movement, it's a political one!

Some of them are so frustrated that they will keep doing this because once they stop they know they will be ignored again.

Reap what you sow. As the OP shows, I think the DC NG is about fed up.

Sounds like they were requesting one or the other, or both. (LRAD or ADS)

And here you go finding excuses to ignore them.

And you wonder why so many of them are protesting.

I'm very much paying attention, actually.

And you wonder why so many of them are protesting.

I have no issue with the actual protestors (as the definition would have it). My issue is the with rioters and looters and talks of abolishing/defunding police. Are they BLM or not? Collectively, I'm not able to perform the mental gymnastics to separate the two; but at the individual level, I can see each person for who their actions tell me they are.

From Wikipedia:
The ADS works by firing a high-powered (100 kW output power)[13] beam of 95 GHz waves at a target, which corresponds to a wavelength of 3.2 mm.[14] The ADS millimeter wave energy works on a similar principle as a microwave oven, exciting the water and fat molecules in the skin, and instantly heating them via dielectric heating. One significant difference is that a microwave oven uses the much lower frequency (and longer wavelength) of 2.45 GHz. The short millimeter waves used in ADS only penetrate the top layers of skin, with most of the energy being absorbed within 0.4 mm (1⁄64 inch),[15] whereas microwaves will penetrate into human tissue about 17 mm (0.67 inch).[16]

This is basic physics type stuff...

Now if someone was to understand microwave pulses and negating their effects then there is certain clothing a person could wear to avoid feeling the effects of this device. (The clothing is expensive...it definitely is not for everyone)

The sound cannons are another matter...
They can cause permanent hearing loss.
"Can you hear me now?" Will get answered with "Have you started?"

And where marches, demonstrations, walks and calls for attention have happened in every city every year for decades peacefully for a variety of issues why is it that BLM, which promotes Critical Race Theory, causes so much violence that police and National Guard is needed?

Obviously it's a problem with the people protesting...

Women's rights had a March last spring or fall...police were there for traffic control because of the size of the March. Not for control of the demonstrators (who did leave a mess) but for their safety from traffic...

So...
I'm unsure if the use of these crowd control devices is warranted or not... better heads than mine need to make that call.

Was anyone doing any of those things in Lafayette square when the considered using the weapon?

And you’re saying if they stop than than this nightmare we’re experiencing under Trump will stop? He’ll resign along with all of his appointed mercenaries, his policies will be reversed, and COVID will stop taking lives? Really?

My eyes have a lot of moisture in them... I feel like I would be more worried about potential vision damage from a ADS? But that's just me. I don't intend to be the target of one.

This nightmare started long before the protests. I think you misunderstand what I’m characterizing as a nightmare.

I am at a loss at why you brought up forest fires.

Some right wing spokespeople have attributed the forest fires to ANTIFA.
In fact, ANTIFA is right up there with windmills I think as a leading cause of chaos.
