• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does reading something in your head count a sin?

I am trying to ignore the intrusive thoughts and seek reassurance. But I worry that I might say something in my head without control even when I am trying to recoil it.
Sorry if something I wrote made you scared. Yes this is what I am now doing. Just trying to ignore it, even if I accidentally think something bad myself. We are under spiritual warfare attack, the only weapon the enemy has is causing us distress through unwanted thoughts.

But what if we were to have a compulsion to remember a intrusive thought and that triggered your ocd attack I fear it would be intentional even though I didn’t mean to say anything bad in your head.

It’s okay I have been dealing with the fear of saying something in my head will be blasphemous.

One of the things those of us with OCD have to learn is that we CAN'T control all our thoughts and feelings, and that's OK. Having a thought/feeling does not necessarily mean that we agree with it. Everyone thinks weird/disturbing thoughts at times, but OCD makes our brains latch onto them and make a big deal out of them, making us afraid that we actually mean those thoughts. But we don't, and our task is to learn to ignore the thoughts, recognizing that it's the OCD causing us to think them and feel that we want them, and they do not indicate our true choices and desires. Please see my response to your p.m. for more information.

Does thinking and saying thoughts in your head count as speaking. I’m just so scared.
The point, I think, is that "accidentally" thinking/saying something is not the same as REAL blasphemy. We OCDers tend to think that committing sins and terrible acts (in this case, blasphemy) is easier than it actually is, because we hyper-analyze every thought and feeling we have, thinking that the smallest shade of thought or feeling might mean that we "mean" to blaspheme God when we really have no desire to. We have to learn to pop out of that hyper-analyzing mode, and the way to do that is to start ignoring our intrusive thoughts and the "false alarms" (anxious and obsessive doubts and fears) that the OCD is sending us. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but I can elaborate more if needed. :)
