• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Can your OCD trick you into thinking that you want the world more than Jesus? I get really anxious because I try to meditate on the beauty of Jesus, but there’s this anxiety in my chest that makes it seem as though I don’t actually want Him. It’s quite confusing.

I've done a lot of reading on this sort of thing. There are two places for fear and anxiety, as far as the brain is concerned. Some of it comes from, the Cerebrum the large part of the brain that deals with reason etc. and that responds well to things like reason, cognitive therapy, meditation etc. But the other part comes from cerebellum and it is kind of resistant to that stuff; seeing how it is closer and tied in with places like the brain stem etc. which deal with our autonomic functions etc.

Anyway it's good to come to terms with this. The lower part of the brain is very resistant to change. Medications can help and prayer is always good for everything in out lives. But there are some problems you got very little control over.

Take Care,
Pavel

OCD can trick us into thinking just about anything. :D Yes, the goal is to ignore our anxious and obsessive feelings, because obsessive feelings are based on distortions of the truth (not truth itself) and therefore can't be relied upon.
