Hi All,

This thread is for scripture only. We would like to show that based on the scriptures alone the "LORD'S DAY" that many proclaim is SUNDAY is a false teaching and you will not find this in God's WORD.

Let's start by looking at your scriptures that many use to claim SUNDAY is the "LORD'S DAY"

REVELATIONS 1:9-11 [9] I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. [10], I was in the Spirit on the LORD'S DAY, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, [11], Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What you see, write in a book, and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia; to Ephesus, and to Smyrna, and to Pergamos, and to Thyatira, and to Sardis, and to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.

................

No doubt about it Revelations 1:10 clearly says that John was in the SPIRIT on the "LORD'S DAY"! NOW the only problem you have is the need to show scripture that says SUNDAY IS THE LORD'S DAY.

................

The challenge I am putting out there is if you believe Sunday is "the Lord's day" please prove that Sunday or the "first day of the week" is the Lord's day by scripture alone!

................

GREEK meaning of "the Lord's day" and the "Lord's day defined in the scriptures provided here linked.

................

If you cannot find any scriptures to say that SUNDAY is the "LORD'S DAY" then you have a problem. Now let's look at the scriptures that give the answer to our question

Q.
WHAT DAY IS THE "LORD'S DAY" ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE?
A. MATTHEW 12:8 [8], For THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY.

Which day is the Lord's Day? THE SABBATH DAY (MATTHEW 12:8; MARK 2:27-28)

God's WORD says that the SABBATH DAY IS THE LORD'S DAY!

There is NO scripture that says Sunday or the FIRST DAY of the week is the Lords Day. God's Word says the Lord's day is the Sabbath day. This is the day God rested on, he set apart and made a Holy day at the completion of the creation week and made a memorial for all mankind (Genesis 2:1-3; Exodus 20:8-11). Jesus is the God of creation and he is the Lord of the Sabbath day (Matthew 12:8; Mark 2:27-28)

.............

Now friend's the SABBATH is the 4th Commandment of God's 10 Commandments and there is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says that God's 4th Commandment has been ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep SUNDAY as a HOLY DAY. The same as there is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says that SUNDAY is the LORD'S DAY.

John in the book of REVELATIONS 1:10 was in the SPIRIT on the SABBATH DAY not SUNDAY!

.............

HOW WAS THE LORD'S DAY CHANGED TO SUNDAY?

SUNDAY Worship is a man-made teaching and tradition handed down by the Roman Catholic Church that goes against the teachings of the Bible and God’s Word *EXODUS 20:8-11

.............

ARE YOU UNKNOWINGLY FOLLOWING A MAN MADE TRADITION IN SUNDAY WORSHIP?

God's WORD is very clear. Jesus warns us in his own words not to follow man-made teachings and traditions that break God’s commandments in Matthew…

MATTHEW 15:3-9
[3], But he answered and said to them, WHY DO YOU ALSO TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD BY YOUR TRADITION?
[4], For God commanded, saying, Honor your father and mother: and, He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.
[5], But you say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatever you might be profited by me;
[6], And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. THUS HAVE YOU MADE THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD OF NONE EFFECT BY YOUR TRADITION.
[7], YOU HYPOCRITES, WELL DID ESAIAS PROPHESY OF YOU, SAYING,
[8], THIS PEOPLE DRAWS NEAR TO ME WITH THEIR MOUTH, AND HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS; BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR FROM ME.
[9], BUT IN VAIN THEY DO WORSHIP ME, TEACHING FOR DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN.

Who do we believe and follow? The teachings and traditions of men or the WORD of God? Only God's WORD is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it over the teachings and traditions of men.

.................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken according to the scriptures *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man. Jesus says that we shouldn't follow the traditions of man that go against the commandment of God. (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day.

In times of ignorance God winks at but when as knowledge of the truth has come God calls on all men everywhere to repent and believe his Word (Acts 17:30-31)

God's is calling his people to come out from following the traditions of men to worship him in Spirit and in truth.

..................

God knows many follow these traditions from ignorance because they do not know any better. He loves all and is calling all who have ears to hear and eyes to see. Seek him in prayer asking for his Spirit to guide and teach you. He promises to be your guide and teacher. (John 14:26; 16:13: 7:17)

This next post will look at showing why I believe the LORD'S DAY is in reference to the SABBATH DAY and not Sunday and continuing from the first post, the second post will also show why "THE LORD'S DAY in REVELATION 1:10 cannot be "THE DAY OF THE LORD (Second coming) like some others think it means. I hope you can consider these posts in the Spirit in which they have been given and prayerfully read what is posted and shared with you like one of God's faithful Bareans.

THE LORD'S DAY IS THE SABBATH DAY WHY?

Let's look at the scripture and the old Koine Greek

REVELATION 1:10 [10] I WAS IN THE SPIRIT ON THE LORD'S DAY, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

The Greek words used for the day that JOHN was in the Spirit of is the for LORD'S DAY are

REVELATION 1:10 εγενομην εν πνευματι εν τη κυριακη ημερα και ηκουσα οπισω μου φωνην μεγαλην ως σαλπιγγος

The word "κυριακη" (translit. "kuriake") is an Adjective - Dative - Singular - Feminine. This means it is being used as a 'possessive' as ownership or belonging to ("of", see 1 Corinthians 11:20, "the Lord's supper"), which means the "day" in context belongs to "the Lord". It is literally "the Lord's (belonging to) day". This means, that the "day" in context is uniquely "the Lord's" out of all the 7 days of the week, for the day under consideration is that which exists within the week, as a day which repeats weekly. This is extremely important, as those who incorrectly assume it to mean "the first [day] of the week" in lieu of Jesus' resurrection, cannot get a weekly occurrence out of a one-time event, in fulfilment of typology of the Firstfruit/Wavesheaf in Leviticus 23:9-14, as made known in 1 Corinthians 15:20,23..

In ISIAIAH 58:13, we read of a "day" that "the Lord" specifically calls "my day" as in ownership or belonging to:

ISAIAH 58:13 If thou turn away thy foot from THE SABBATH, from doing thy pleasure on MY HOLY DAY; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

In many translations of Isaiah 58:13 we read that the 7th day, the sabbath of the Lord, is said to be "the Lord's holy day", with the word holy being another adjective, while the "Lord's" is possessive. - /Isaiah 58:13 - Bible Gateway

There is only one that he has BLESSED and made HIS HOLY DAY OF REST and has commanded his people to REMEMBER and keep *GENESIS 2:1-3; EXODUS 20:8-11

God's "OWNERSHIP" of the SABBATH DAY or "LORD'S DAY is also repeated elsewhere as "MY" (ownership of the day as in the Greek used in REVELATION 1:10 κυριακη)

EXODUS 31:12-18 [12] Then the Lord said to Moses, [13] Say to the Israelites, You must observe MY SABBATHS (belonging to; ownership to the Lord; or LORD'S DAY). This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.

MATTHEW 12:8 as well as MARK 2:27-28 show that JESUS is GOD and the CREATOR of HEAVEN and EARTH as witnessed by MOSES in GENESIS chapters 1 and 2.

JESUS says that he is the LORD (CREATOR) even of the SABBATH DAY. It is the LORDS DAY because on the SABBATH DAY JESUS; Set the SEVENTH DAY of the week apart for mankind as a HOLY DAY. On the SEVENTH DAY of CREATION GOD (JESUS) BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY, and SET IT APART as a HOLY DAY for mankind (BEFORE THE FALL) to REST with GOD. *GENESIS 2:1-3.

What these scriptures prove is that the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH is the LORDS DAY that he set apart for mankind and show he is the creator of HEAVEN and EARTH. Now JOHN in REVELATION 1:10 knew that JESUS is the creator GOD and he refers to the SABBATH DAY as the LORD'S DAY *MATTHEW 12:8. There is no scripture that says SUNDAY is "THE LORDS DAY" but JESUS says he is the LORD (CREATOR) even of the SABBATH DAY *MATTHEW 12:8. JOHN in reference to being in the Spirit on “THE LORDS DAY REVELATION 1:10 is referring to JESUS as the creator of heaven and earth and the SABBATH DAY that GOD rested, blessed and made holy for mankind on the SEVENTH DAY of creation is the one day in seven that God claims as His own.

...................

So now we have looked at the GREEK application and word meanings as well as parrallel scriptures of the LORD'S OWNERSHIP of the SABBATH DAY from the old testament. Let's look at the new testament scriptures that define what day is THE LORDS DAY asking the question...

WHICH DAY IS THE LORDS DAY OR THE DAY?

MATTHEW 12:8 FOR THE SON OF MAN IS LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY. (LORD'S OWNERSHIP)

MARK 2:27-28 [27], And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:[28], THEREFORE THE SON OF MAN IS LORD OF THE SABBATH. (LORD'S OWNERSHIP)

.............

CONCLUSION: Based on the Greek words used and the old and new testament scriptures as shown above THE LORD'S DAY is in reference to the day that the LORD claims as his own that has it's origin in creation that he rested, blessed and set apart as a holy day for all mankind. THE LORDS DAY therefore that JOHN was in the Spirit on in REVELATION 1:10 is the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH that belongs to God who claims ownership of in both the old and new testament scriptures.

Golly, do I believe what Christians have always believed going back to the Apostles, or do I believe the lies of a 19th century false prophet? Such a difficult decision to make.

No where do the Scriptures call the Sabbath the Lord's day.

But the Church has always called the first day of the week the Lord's day.

Case closed.

Hello dear friend. Thankyou for sharing your view but your post has no truth in it. I have just provided the scriptures showing that the Sabbath is the Lords day in post # 2. If you disagree your welcome to show why but disagreeing for the sake of a disagreement when God's Word has been shared with you only shows your arguing with Gods' Word not my words. Now lets be honest, can you show me a single scripture that says Sunday or the first day of the week is "the Lords day"? This is the challenge of this thread. God knows many break God's 4th commandment out of ignorance. God's people I believe are in all the churches living up to all the knowledge of his Word that he has revealed to them but the hour is coming and now is that he calling his people back to the pure Word of God because God is a Spirit and those who worship him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth according to the scriptures

And we afterwards continually remind each other of these things. And the wealthy among us help the needy; and we always keep together; and for all things wherewith we are supplied, we bless the Maker of all through His Son Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Ghost. And on the day called Sunday,76 all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things. Then we all rise together and pray, and, as we before said, when our prayer is ended, bread and wine and water are brought, and the president in like manner offers prayers and thanksgivings, according to his ability,77 and the people assent, saying Amen; and there is a distribution to each, and a participation of that over which thanks have been given,78 and to those who are absent a portion is sent by the deacons. And they who are well to do, and willing, give what each thinks fit; and what is collected is deposited with the president, who succours the orphans and widows and those who, through sickness or any other cause, are in want, and those who are in bonds and the strangers sojourning among us, and in a word takes care of all who are in need. But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Saviour on the same day rose from the dead. For He was crucified on the day before that of Saturn (Saturday); and on the day after that of Saturn, which is the day of the Sun, having appeared to His apostles and disciples, He taught them these things, which we have submitted to you also for your consideration.

Romans 14:4-6
4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.
6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

We are under the new covenant. The Israelites rested one day a week, as a foreshadowing of Jesus' rest after overcoming sin and death, not just based on creation. We are to "enter into His rest", and that applies to us every day of the week. Those who call Sunday the "Christian Sabbath" are in error. If we set aside a special day to remember God's rest, it should be Saturday, the Sabbath. Paul clearly states that neither keeping the day nor not keeping the day is wrong.

Christianity has chosen to celebrate Jesus' resurrection on Sunday, and early on it was celebrated every Sunday. Maybe the emphasis is too great, and detracts to a certain extent from the Cross. I suggest each person follow their own conscience in the matter. But in Christ, please show gentle respect for one another.

These are catholic sources outside of scripture. God's people all through time from GENESIS to the Gospels of JESUS and the Apostles and after the death of JESUS all kept God's 4th commandment seventh day Sabbath unbroken from that time to this very present day as shown through the Historical records.

Indeed, all of God's 10 commandments are repeated in the new covenant as requirements of our duty of love to God and love to mankind. Where in all of God's Word does it say Gods 4th commandment has now been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday or the first day of the week as a Holy day? Or that the Lord's day is the Sunday? - There is none.

Every day is a Sabbath in Him.
According to the scriptures the Sabbath rest is entered into by faith (believing and following what God's Word says). The Sabbath according to the scriptures alone is the "seventh day" of the week *Exodus 20:10; Genesis 2:1-3. There is no scripture that says JESUS is a sabbath.

There is none.

I agree. There is neither command to keep, nor command not to. We are told to "enter into His rest", which means we must put our trust solely in Him, every day of the week. How we choose our primary day of worship, and how (or if) we symbolize that rest by setting aside a special day, is up to our conscience -- guided, of course, by the Holy Spirit.

Sure, it's found in the same place in Scripture that calls Saturday "the Lord's day". Can you show me where in Scripture it says that? I already know that the seventh day, Saturday, is the Sabbath. So that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking you to find where Scripture calls it the Kyriake [hemera].

The challenge I am putting out there is if you believe Sunday is "the Lord's day" please prove that Sunday of the "first day of the week" is the Lord's day by scripture alone!

................

SUNDAY Worship is a teaching and tradition of men handed down by the Roman Catholic Church that has lead many to break and ignore God's 4th Commandment (Exodus 20:8-11)

.............

ARE YOU UNKNOWINGLY FOLLOWING A MAN MADE TRADITION IN SUNDAY WORSHIP?

God's WORD is very clear. If we follow the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God then we are not following God...

[5], But you say, Whoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatever you might be profited by me;
[6], And honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free.

Only God's WORD is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it over the teachings and traditions of men that break the commandments of God.

.................

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

(FRIENDLY DICUSSION PLEASE)

We all agree that Sunday is what the Bible calls "week-day-1".

The reason it is not the "Lord's Day" is that there is no bible text that says "week-day-1 is the Lord's Day".

We do have

1. The Son of Man is LORD of the Sabbath Mark 2:28
2. "The Sabbath - the Holy Day of the LORD" Isaiah 58:13

But there is no "week day 1 is the Lord's day"
There is the fact of meeting "every Sabbath" for worship and gospel preaching in Acts 18:4

But there is no "meeting every week-day-1 for worship and gospel preaching" in all of the NT

===============================

But if we set aside that Bible detail about having no text saying "each week-day-1 is the Lord's Day"... there are some interesting quotes from outside the Bible regarding that detail. see this post .. #261

Not according to the scriptures. No one enters into God's rest by breaking His commandments. That is what Hebrews 3 and Hebrews 4 directly warns us about. God's 4th commandment Sabbath in the new covenant is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken *Romans 3:20; Romans 7:7; 1 John 3:4 and if we break anyone of them we stand guilty before God of sin *James 2:10-11.

Hebrews 4:9 THEREFORE IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH

God bless

"Say to the Israelites" NOT all mankind "You (Israel) must observe MY SABBATHS."

for all eternity after the cross, in the New Earth "from Sabbath to Sabbath shall ALL MANKIND come before Me to worship" Is 66:23

Hebrews four references the seventh day of creation not a day of the week.

"six days you shall labor... for in six days the LORD MADE..." Ex 20:8-11... it is a day of the week.

The "seventh" day of creation is the origin of the Sabbath where God rested and we enter into that rest through faith. GENESIS 2:1-3 states that God blessed the "seventh day" and set it apart as a Holy day of rest for all mankind and God commands his people to keep it as a holy day *EXODUS 20:8-11.

"Say to the Israelites" NOT all mankind "You (Israel) must observe MY SABBATHS."
The Greek word used in Mark 2:27 for man is human beings "The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath" There was NO JEW or ISRAEL when the Sabbath was made for all mankind according to Genesis 2:1-3.

...........

The Sabbath was made for man: ἄνθρωπος anthrōpos From G435 and ὤψ ōps (the countenance ; from G3700); manfaced, that is, a human being: - certain, man.
