From the article.
Seismologists say chance of larger quake is 'significantly elevated'

A swarm of minor earthquakes near California's Salton Sea is raising concern about the potential for a larger temblor at the state's San Andreas Fault.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the dozens of tremors began in the early morning on Monday, ranging in size from a 2.6 magnitude quake to a 4.6 magnitude quake northwest of Palm Springs under the southeastern part of the Salton Sea.

The swarm marks only the fourth time in almost 90 years of modern seismology records that such an incident has occurred in that part of the Golden State.

There has been significant activity at stress points from Alaska down to south CA in the last week, including volcanic rumblings in Yellowstone. Covid could very well become page two news. But then birth pangs come and go.

The plates around the globe have been very active in recent years, esp last 2. I often wonder if this is apocalyptic in nature or if a big one is coming. Anyway it is perfectly normal for this area of the state to have releases of strain.

It is but there is a two foot overlap of shelf build up in the NW of the US that could effectively put 70 days of looting and riots to bed permanently.

Small earthquakes released stress along a fault. The big ones did the damage.

Mt Rainer is a 14,400’ stratovolcano in Washington State SE of Seattle. It erupted in the 19th century. Mt. St. Helens erupted in my lifetime.

But for now, hey lets build a national park on top of it :)

Right. Except that the park was there long before anybody knew about the volcanic capabilities. :)

Well, if it happens, I'll see ya'll down in Arizona bay.

Got some oceanfront property in Arizona---
From my front porch, you can see the sea;
Got some oceanfront property in Arizona---
After that next earthquake it'll be there, you'll see!

San Francisco might be on shaky ground, yet it is expensive real estate. Oceanfront property in Florida is not cheap, even though it will be underwater.

In a worst-case scenario, Florida will still be better off than northern California. One-week projection for ash distribution, post-explosion: Yellowstone week-long ash distribution.jpg
