"Police say a crowd barricaded and tried to set fire to a precinct with officers still inside it Wednesday night. Protesters also aimed green lasers at officers, threw shot put-sized rocks at them and fired commercial grade fireworks at them. At one point a demonstrator attempted to run over officers using a truck, police said."
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who for weeks had blamed President Trump for fueling riots in his Oregon city, on Thursday acknowledged that the violence has continued even after the federal presence was curtailed, and told peaceful protesters to stay home. “Don’t think for a moment that if you are participating in this activity that you are not being a prop for the reelection campaign for Donald Trump, because you absolutely are,” he said in a press conference conducted online. “You are creating the b-roll film that will be used in ads nationally to help Donald Trump during his campaign. You don’t want to be part of that, then don’t show up.”
Clearly we can see what the mayor's primary concern is, it is not the safety of the public or the police, no, his primary concern is not wanting to help Donald Trump.

Another fine example of why local politics matters heaps more than national politics.

Your local political leaders have a huge impact on your life...the president probably won't leave Washington.

But the Portland mayor is so caught up in National politics he will destroy his own city to prove his point...what a moron.!

All those struggling small businesses downtown that were troubled by the pandemic are now destroyed by riots and looting.

So this Mayor thinks that if Trump didn't use a film like this the people of course would just vote Democrat? Their homes or businesses would be destroyed but the thought wouldn't even occur to them to allow their votes to go another direction?

Portland and Oregon in general has been a place for progressive liberalism for around a century now. They vehemently opposed our entry into WWII. Flung fits about it the whole time we were fighting too.

Of course the other military actions since were met with hostility.

Currently the city has huge docks for shipping from China, Japan, and India. (Oil from Russia goes to Alaska and into the pipeline). The dockworkers union is still extremely strong and the dockworkers make huge salaries for the work they do. There's a long waiting list to even join that union.

Then there's the sport fishing and camping and logging industry there...very huge part of the local economy.

The social dynamics of that city are strange in comparison to the rest of the Nation.

You can catch a bus to anywhere in the city.

The riots will certainly help Trump. That is the most compelling reason for the protesters to rethink their strategy.

Personally I have my doubts that the rioters even care about whether Trump is reelected or not. I think they are purely motivated by their own love for violence and destruction. The mayor's words may encourage peaceful protesters to stay home and stay clear of the violent rioters but they will fall on deaf ears when it comes to the rioters.

This elderly lady plus another had paint thrown on them as they sought to defend a police Precinct in Portland. And the people who would do this you're going to entrust them to build a brave new world?

And might this deserve the picture of the year? It reminds me of the Chinese man who stood in front of some tanks at Tiananmen Square in 1989! Courageous lady!
