In terms of eschatology, I was wondering if anyone thought all the theories out there are total garbage, or all theories but the one they subscribe to are total garbage.

I was reflecting on Acts 1:7, and I think if this is the case, perhaps it's pointless to even look into eschatology at all. Perhaps the divisiveness and wide variety of theories causing immense confusion, may be a sign God is not teaching us anything on this, since God is not the author of confusion?

Just a thought though.

The basic problem in understanding the Prophetic Word, is when people choose to believe false theories and doctrines.
Isaiah 29:9-12 says that people who do confuse themselves in that way, will be locked into their beliefs and only as events happen, will they finally understand.
Many scriptures say how difficult it is for anyone to fully comprehend Gods plans: Matthew 11:25, 1 Corinthians 1:19-20, Isaiah 42:18-20, +

However, Daniel 12:10 does say; a few will understand.

Agree. The theories are garbage because they take it literally to much

No one is supposed to take a theory literally. That is why it is called a theory. At least that is how I literally took your statement. I have no theory about if you actually understand your own comment.

The world ends for each of us on the day we die. And all we have is hope, as none of us know the time or manner of our going nor where we are bound but we can study the signs and make some predictions...perhaps.
That is what I see in eschatology, a good guess, a reasoned argument because now we see through the glass darkly.
Where is the harm in it? Granted, a person can become so entranced by their own understanding that they are contentious or confusing, convinced of their own rightness but for the average theologian, it is merely an interesting puzzle, a glimpse into the infinite mind of God, as we look to from whence all the world came and again to where it goes. It is akin to wondering about the sweep of the stars. We have come a long way in understanding the majesty of the galaxies although it is hard to say where the profit in that is, as yet. And that is also true of eschatology. Where is the profit in it other than the wonder and amazement? The fulfillment of prophesy may be as far away as the stars and I will be gone long by then.

Prophecy is like Jesus. The events described have happened, are happening and are yet to be complete. So, many theories are bound to a specific time in history. Because of that narrow vision all other theories are seen as mutually exclusive. It's either this is true and that is not or that is true and this is not. Often they both are true. It works like this; many see the book of revelation desdcribing things that happened in the past, others as things that are yet to come. Each views the other as false because theirs is true or visa versa. They are both true. How about Pre-trib post-trib rapture. What if it is the tribulation that introduces a process of sanctification and heroic witness? That would be those who's lives testiofy to Christ and follow their Lord Jesus all the way to the cross. There would be some lifted up before the tribulation is recognized as happeneing. There would be Christians lifted up in the beginning of the persecution and the middle and at the end making all the trib theories ring true. To break out of divisive perception either or thinking needs to open up to both and thinking.

That's also a theory. I feel the same about that statement as I do about all of the other theories.

I was reminded of this passage this morning, and thought I'd place it here.

"Let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged." Romans 3:4

So in a sense, we mess up theology in general because we are not God. God is right, but we're not.

I don't know if they are rubish, but I wonder if the obsession with eschatology misses the point. Why did God send the prophets? So that the future could be known? No. The primary point was to call the people back to their first love, i.e. God, and to live accordingly. They came with words of judgement (about the future) and hope (about the future) not so that people would try to divine the times, but so that they would live as God's people now.

I think the question people should ask themselves is, "Does my focus on eschatology contribute or detract, right now, from who I am being called to be as a member of His body?"

If Acts 1:7 means we shouldn't worry about the end times, then Paul should have corrected the Thessalonians. Concerning the times and seasons, Paul had this to say 1st Thessalonians 5
1Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers,a you have no need to have anything written to you. 2For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.3While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief

I don't think it was meant to be understood until about the time it is fulfilled.

Daniel 12:4 But you, Daniel, shut up these words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will roam to and fro, and knowledge will increase."

Actually it is not a theory because I was talking about the fact that some protestants take the book of Revelations and other places in Sacred Scripture literally.

Sometimes, sacred scripture should be taken literally. For instance, when someone is explaining a vision or dream, the explanation should be taken literally.

Revelation 17:9 This calls for a mind that has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.

Revelation 17:18 And the woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth."

Your calling 1st century Christians a harlot?

Did I say that? No. What I said was the whole letter was to 1st Century Christians not 21st century Christians. Look I lay it out for you I don't believe any futurist silliness

So you was arguing with a point I wasn't making.
You don't listen very well but since you give the word of God no heed, I shouldn't expect you would pay attention to anything I say.
