Alaska Airlines Passenger Gives Ultimatum: Accept Jesus Was Black Or Die

According to the Seattle Times, the incident occurred on Saturday around 11 p.m., shortly after the flight took off from Seattle headed to Chicago. “The man became extremely belligerent and physically aggressive during the ascent,” Ray Lane, external communications manager for Alaska Airlines, shared in an e-mail to the outlet.

Not exactly a good start to a flight....

Video from the encounter shows the man walking through the aisle with a mask, demanding that those on board “accept that Jesus was a Black man.” The disturbed passenger, who does not appear to be Black, threatened that he would kill everybody on board if they did not make the confession

Perhaps this is some form of airline theatre for flights without a movie lol.

It's odd that this just started after the flight took off. I find it hard to imagine that he wasn't sharing his strong feelings about black Jesus when dealing with TSA or at check in....

Perhaps security heard the man, and decided it was too risky for their careers to argue with the guy raving about black Jesus. Cancel culture canceled an entire flight this time lol.

Thoughts?

To be fair to him...acceptance of black Jesus has been a hot topic recently...

How Jesus became white — and why it’s time to cancel that

You have the media pushing for people to give attention to a fake problem (in this case, white Jesus) and pushing the idea that supporting/depicting white Jesus is somehow morally wrong....

....so it's really just a matter of time before someone unhinged runs with the idea.

Well, Jesus was an Arab and probably brown so neither black nor white. But wow that is crazy and scary, those poor people.

It always seems odd to me when people proclaim that Jesus was a white European or a black African. You would think that the Bible would have mentioned if He looked significantly different from the Middle Eastern people that He lived among.

As an atheist I never really understood the argument over Jesus' ethnic or racial makeup. No one knows what he looked like...so every depiction of Jesus is technically wrong.

For what it's worth, since Jesus was Jewish I like to imagine he looked like Larry David.

The argument over looks or racial makeup is foolish. All we know is that he was Jewish, but if that was a pale Jewish or darker, who knows. He lived to be 33, so he would not have looked that old.
I think His being Jewish/Arab was on purpose just so people couldn't say he was black or white.

Are we talking about jesus?
No. A delusional person will have delusions that are connected to some personal reference. In the Bible Belt, delusions tend to have religious references. Others involve the government or technology. His particular delusion references "Black Jesus", but really isn't "about Jesus". The real issue is his psychosis.

According to wikipedia, Larry David Jewish lineage comes through Poland and Germany. Jews didn't arrive in Poland until around the turn of the second millennium AD. They'd been in other parts of Europe earlier, but broadly speaking, they moved north from Israel, not the other way around, and, intermarrying with the locals, would've gotten whiter as they went along.

It's a point of contention because Christianity has a long history of using religion to justify its bigotry. While normalizing the idea that Jesus was white is hardly the most egregious example, it does reinforce the notion that non-whites are somehow outside the group.

ETA: I'm also amused by the fact that he really stuck with the early Christianity theme by not only insisting that Jesus was non-white but also insisting that they accept Jesus or be killed.

Outside what group? The group of people who share a skin tone with Jesus?

Outside the group of people inside the church, most of whom do share skin tone with white Jesus. Triggering in group vs out group reactions within people is pretty easy and doesn't even have to be deliberate.

If it is true that Mary had a virgin birth then Jesus would have the exact same DNA as Mary, thus would look exactly like Mary when "he" grew up. "he" would be an identical twin.

Is Korean Jesus guilty of the same effect then?

The thing is...if Jesus is going to be depicted, he's going to look like someone. It seems rather petty to complain about the depiction.
