Baring a total mental collapse on the part of former VP Biden in the debates, and I am not certain that even that would do it, what could happen to possibly give the President a 2nd term?
If the virus, the rising cases and all the deaths he’s ignoring miraculously disappeared and the economy were to rebound at an unbelievable pace and everyone were to suffer short term amnesia regarding everything that’s happened in the last 6 months.

He might edge out a win.

War. I look for it and famine because God's four sore judgments include war along with those. COVID 19 being one of them.

1) Banana republic style election where the polls are closed at 10am because Trump has proclaimed he is so far ahead in votes already there is no reason to continue the election and then the votes that were placed are used as kindling so we can all have delicious s’mores.

2) The virus really does just vanish in the next couple of weeks.

I think the next thing that will help him win or lose, though not sure it will be enough to win, is wether or not the gamble on re-opening schools pays off, and it doesn't even have to not be a disaster, just a disaster after or close enough to the elections to not matter.

Never underestimate the gullibility of his base or the incompetence of the Democrats as a party.

Massive voter suppression or foreign interference, which is why I don't think the outcome is certain.

The race is a toss-up now, so almost anything could tip things one way or the other.
Based on what? Biden is something like 10% ahead in the polls. That's not what most people would call a toss up.

It would do a lot to help him and I think he thinks if it goes away (or he can at least convince most people it went away) he will win. If we get to November and people have to homeschool their kids and sports are a shell of what they are supposed to be if happening at all, Trump might as well give his concession speech at around noon on Election Day. How he is currently treating the pandemic, that is exactly how this will go.

The polls do not even close until well into the evening I know in GA for example it is 7AM-7PM minimum.

I’m well aware. I’m saying if schools aren’t open and sports aren’t going on at the beginning of November he has zero chance of winning the election. It would be considerate of him to concede early and we can all get to bed early.

What do you think people would think if the virus either went away or became far less serious fewer deaths and fewer and much shorter hospital stay?

I honestly do not see how that could possibly happen but let’s just say it somehow magically does. Then we may have an actual competition. However I don’t know where Trump is going to find the votes to win.

He won on razor thin margins in 2016. Demographic shift has slid against him in four years. In a presidential election you need to carry your base plus some. He has done nothing to bring that plus some with him. His base is solid but he has nothing to bring more in.

He also has nothing to promise people for the second term. Go to his campaign website, there are no plans for the next term.

Additionally, his campaign appears to not realize Trump has been the president for the last few years. One campaign says you won’t be safe in Biden’s America while showing dangerous clips taking place in Trump’s America. He claims all these problems in this country, the problem is, there is a group of people wondering why he hasn’t done anything about it in the last four years. He’s not the outsider anymore. He is part of the system and any issue with it is a reflection on him.

Suspension of elections in November (because voting will be too dangerous during the first spike of the second wave of COVID and the complete dissolution of the US Postal Service thereby barring the corrupt act of "vote-by-mail"). This will go a long way.

Mitch McConnell will probably rubber stamp the decision and let it go through. The courts might get in line but by that point it will be too little too late and we'll be able to get back to the task of making America great again.

I'd say our greatest threat then is being trampled to death by rabid unicorns running roughshod through the streets. But hey, "it could happen!"
