So if you lived in a house with 4 other people and 2 of those people brought a skunk into the house and said "Deal with it". Would you say "Oh, well, I better go find a new home myself!" Or would you try to get rid of the skunk?

I would probably throw out the person who thought it was OK to bring in a skunk. Skunks are nasty.

I'm simply pointing out there's more than one way to deface a monument.

I'm simply asking if you're worried about that happening to Rushmore.

Wikipedia probably isn't the best source.

Not the best, but it's a step up.

Good dodge.

Nah, I drive a Kia. Better mileage.

I find that doubtful.

There are more things in heaven and earth, than you are able to "find" (apologies to Mr. Shakespeare)

Yes, which I am allowed to have... Even in One Nation Under Donald.

He has an army?

That's what he calls it... in my opinion (which I am still allowed to have), I think he's overcompensating for something...

Perhaps Ms. Daniels has an opinion of her own regarding what that might be?

Silence is violence....I've heard.

Well, hearing is the first step; understanding follows...

... eventually.

Maybe...ask the Sioux whose land this actually was? Let them decide. If we ask nicely and NOT be our usual selves we can come to an agreement that is mutually acceptable to both parties.

But in the end, it's THEIR lands.

When I was doing geology training in the Black Hills I was constantly aware that I was in someone else's "church" banging away with a rock hammer. It's hard as a modern-day scientist to think of these places as some place that is beyond our "investigation" but for me the best answer would be the "middle path" the one in which we work with the local tribes (after we've established that we aren't like the countless generations of white people before us and can be trusted) to ensure that we both have access to the land. That, indeed, those of us who value this area (and the Black Hills is BEYOND beautiful) can all agree to share it. But it has to come from the position of those from whom we've taken the land (through no amount of bad dealings) and with their consent.

We humans actually CAN work together and share. It is hard to do but it can be done.

My grandmother was Indian. I don't remember a lot about it, she died while I was young. I just remembered that she use to tell stories about it and I thought it was cool because she actually looked like an Indian. She married a white man and thanks to them I'm here.

I can appreciate your sarcasm. :) All those things you listed sound wonderful indeed, who wouldn't want them?

The first 3 things you listed unfortunately would require personal responsibility from the citizens to work properly. Accessible affordable healthcare will ultimately crumble if people rely on outside entities for health, while continuing to dig their graves with their teeth, engage in substance abuse, and totally disregards their bodies, because, hey, health care is free or affordable.

Expanded family leave. Who is going to pay for that? the company that has hired the employee? the state, the feds? Most likely, the taxpayers...

Improved social safety net. We have had social safety net for decades, it's called welfare, and we have had people who have made welfare generational starting when they were teenagers. Their lives did not improve.
We have Medicare. We have Medicaid. We have Social Security. All of these on the taxpayers.
I guess, it could always be improved. But how exactly? what more should the government do? Who is going to pay for more programs?

Racial equity. I love that term, because it is so vague. How exactly is the left going to make "racial equity" happen? A lot of the riots happened in states and cities ruled by.....drumrolls... democrats, most of them positionned on the left, as in Major Durkan of Seattle, who allowed CHAZ/CHOP to take over 6 city blocks and dubbed it a block party and the Summer of Love! That is, until they brought the pitchfork to her doorsteps.

Reduction in gun violence, gun death and mass shootings. Ok. Lofty goal. I want to see the left fixing Chicago's South side gun violence issues first, then I will believe they can solve the issue of gun violence.
Apart from 4 the UK (and most other developed nations) have all of that. Why can't America manage it when other non-Exceptional countries can?

You mean other than the fact that taxing people according to race would be illegal?

People aren't taxed according to race... who told you to think that they were?

Here's the short and simple (hopefully enough) version: Everyone gets taxed regardless of race. The money goes into one big pile, so to speak, which then gets divided up according to the budget -- which is determined by Congress (when they're able to) and signed by the president. If reparations are in the budget, a portion goes to that.

Now, if anyone is advocating doing it differently regarding reparations, I certainly haven't heard about it, and wouldn't support their method. It's not enough to be right; one must also do right.

Well, the Sioux are not interested in monetary compensation for something holy, they want sovereignty over their own lands recognized.
Not wanting money will be incomprehensible to the average American brought up to worship the Almighty Dollar.

Ummm....this had me puzzled. Perhaps someone who speaks his language could translate...?

“In the fields and jungles of Vietnam, they delivered a swift and swiffian, It was swift and it was sweeping like nobody’s ever seen happen. A victory in Operation Desert Storm, a lot of you were involved in that. A lot of you were involved. That was a quick one.”

Huh...??

"It was not immediately apparent to what the president was referring."

Remarkable in that during those 40 years the democrats had the house, the senate and the presidency, as well as a left leaning supreme court
Meanwhile back here in reality neither party has had a 40 year stretch of exclusive control of both the executive and legislative branches.

Nice sounding rhetoric, though. I'm sure it plays well with people looking to rationalize their support of Donald for whatever reason.

Haven't you heard? It's all been democrats before Trump. That's why everything is so messed up, because only the democrats ruled over everything and now Trump has to fight the good fight against the deep state and the elites, with Hillary and Soros and Bezos. I want icecream.

I grew up in the South and remember going to segregated schools... so you want to play this game?
Sure. As a colored man who currently lives in the South, i would be glad to play that game. Seprate but equal and Jim Crow were democrat policies. Can you take a stab at what President desegregated the schools and which political party he belonged to?

A history lesson would work pretty well here: for starters, Congress approved the construction in 1925, and it was signed by President Coolidge.

So it's indeed a good thing you don't have a problem with FDR.
Yep...you were right and I was wrong. My apologies.

Elitist attitude and the hate that goes with it

First off, Clint, I must apologize for using the word "deplorables" it was in service to a larger point. I actually don't think most Trump supporters are "deplorables" but since I'm being told that those of us who want the country we love to be all it can be should LEAVE I was merely pushing back since it seemed pretty nasty to tell some of us in America that we aren't worthy of being Americans.

I understand it is "elitist" to get an education, work hard, sacrifice and get a good job. Follow the rules. Do what you're supposed to do. And I apologize if that approach is offensive to you.

Was it hate to suggest that people like me should "leave" our own country? Is our country only for certain people?

I hope not. I hope we can do better as a country. We've done so much good in the past.

I would love to see your evidence for those statements.

Oh, well, it's called "History class". One usually takes it in high school. You can also go to a library or bookstore and check out books on American history.

I know, more "elitist" stuff (education), but it's hard to break old habits.

So he was a Democrat.

I'm not aware of any official statements regarding his political party, but it's certainly possible... the parties having effectively switched platforms in the 1960s.

...let us know if they ever switch back.

Thurgood Marshall was President? John F Kennedy and LBJ were Republicans.

Both major parties supported segregation, slavery, the whole nine yards. This business of blaming one over the other for 250 years is laughable.

BTW, what "color" are you?
