If you ask me the Bible should be the central point of every Christians life for how do we know how to be a Christian without the Bible? How do we know what angers God and what pleases God? How do we know anything about creation or theology without reading and applying the Bible? I'm all for the fundamentalist movement but theres fundamentalism and there's fundamentalism taken WAY too far.

If theres one thing I cannot stand it's a fundamentalist that tries to push their views on another Christian, WITHOUT IT EVEN BEING IN THE BIBLE! An example? Fundamentalists who say in order to be married in the eyes of God you have to have a church wedding. Otherwise you're not married and are living in sin when you have relations together or just even spend time together.

Cool, only it's NOT in the Bible. There isn't a single verse in scripture that says only a church wedding is valid. The Bible has plenty to say on premarital sex, and divorce but it says NOTHING about what marriages are valid in the eyes of God. Instead the Binle says that ALL heterosexual marriage is a gift from God.

Or the fundamentalist church that says that in order to follow the Bible you must tithe. Bzzt! Wrong! Not ONE verse in the New Testament says that tithing (or giving of any kind) is technically required. You want to give your church? Do so. But don't give in to this fundamentalist hogwash that if you don't tithe than you arent following the Bible it just isnt true.

Or when they try to tell you what music to listen to. Honestly? Unless it isnt talking about death, sex, or cusses every 13 seconds there technically isnt anything wrong with it. The Bible says absolutely nothing about most kinds of music out there. Whether it be rock, rap, country music, or anything.

The fundamentalist movement is a fantastic movement. I'm a fundamentalist myself. But before you go out and declare what being a fundamentalist is actually about , make sure you actually have your facts straight. Please!

You might be interested to know that Christian church weddings were not mandated until the 11th century. Before that, they were optional and in many cases they were to cement family alliances for wealth and power.

What you are describing is nothing more than good ole Legalism, it is not only found in Fundamentalist Churches, but it is found wherever ignorance of Bible Principals is found.

I think you can find that behavior in most religious groups. It isn’t limited to fundamentalists.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. —Philippians 4:8

How is this OP a reflection of that? Food for thought.

Most of the things you're protesting is the result of pastors creating an insular levitical cocoon.

It's designed to keep people away who have different opinions from the quarterback, I mean pastor.

I'm with you on almost all the things you mentioned except tithing. It's ultimately up to you on whether you want to be blessed as a result of giving. But you said that there's not a single verse that talks about tithing in the new testament. I'm going to post one and leave it at that.

Matthew 23:23 - "What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things."

I don't disagree but it's possible that Pastors say some of these things because they believe it's in people's best interest. The Bible isn't completely absent from the mentality either. A Pastor isn't going to inspect someone's CD collection or be unreasonable because of something someone listened to. If you don't respect the Pastor don't go to that church is something that should be considered.

I actually agree some of the environments can seem controlling and nit picky but I don't think it always comes from a "bad" place.

Yeah, in terms of offerings.

The tithe was supposed to go into a storehouse so the whole community could benefit if there was hard times. It also paid for the Priests who didn't have a land inheritance because Levi had anger management issues.

Since there is no storehouse today, the tithe is hardly appropriate.

The scripture says giving to the poor is giving to God, and that giving to church is partnering with their ministry. So this is good to keep in mind if you want your offering to actually reach God.

Tithing is not taught in the NT. In that scripture, Jesus was talking to Jews who were tithing at that time.
Ask your pastor where he wants you to bring your barley, wheat, etc. or your lambs because money was never accepted as a tithe. The only things accepted as tithe were the things the Lord Himself created. Notice in your verse what Jesus says they are tithing, it isn't money and they had money at their disposal.
Jews today do not don't tithe. They have no Levites, no High Priest, and no temple to bring the tithe to.

Deuteronomy 14:22-26 --- You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year. You shall eat in the presence of the Lord your God, at the place where He chooses to establish His name, the tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may learn to fear the Lord your God always. If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to bring the tithe, since the place where the LORD yheart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there our God chooses to set His name is too far away from you when the LORD your God blesses you, then you shall exchange it for money, and bind the money in your hand and go to the place which the LORD your God chooses. You may spend the money for whatever your you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household.

Or when they try to tell you what music to listen to.

Depends. If the other has asked one for their opinion on it then they've asked for the others input. If they don't like the answer they shouldn't get offended and mad. They asked...and the told them.

Unless it isnt talking about death, sex, or cusses every 13 seconds there technically isnt anything wrong with it. The Bible says absolutely nothing about most kinds of music out there. Whether it be rock, rap, country music, or anything.

Look everyone's going to have to choose their level of tolerance when it comes to things like this. You say as long as it's not every 13 seconds. So what if it's once every 30 seconds or once every two minutes....or once every three songs? Tolerance levels of these things are a very personal thing. I'm not arbitrarily going to say their wrong if their tolerance level is less then mine. It could be me that changes my view in the future to be more like them or they might modify to be less strict in the future.

God has taken all his children to a different level of enlightenment of things as well. I'd say people should ALWAYS be in a posture of being willing to allow God to move one from glory to glory. Get the feel in the Spirit as to the right or wrong of many of these things but be careful not to resist what really might be God trying to your attention. There's a lot of people I think who do that too.

The fundamentalist movement is a fantastic movement. I'm a fundamentalist myself. But before you go out and declare what being a fundamentalist is actually about , make sure you actually have your facts straight. Please!

And no offence but what FACTS are may not be as clear cut as how you define them. We could fall into lecturing people about what facts are only to find we need to be more flexible as to what they really are.

I agree with everything in our post accept this.
The tithe was for the Levites because they weren't given any land to grow their own food or raise any animals, usually sheep. Then the Levites would give a tithe to the regular priests and the High Priest and the temple. There were 24 divisions of Levites that served at the temple on a rotation cycle and these provisions were for them. John the Baptist was a Levite.
see 1 Chronicles 24

I think maybe you were thinking of when Joseph was in Egypt and in good standing with Pharoah, Joseph knew that hard days were coming and he instructed them to store up I believe it was 7 seven yrs. of grain.

There's always a precept in there to provide for the poor, it's just the way God does things. I believe this was the section I was reflecting on.

Deuteronomy 14
28 At the end of three years thou shalt bring forth all the tithe of thine increase the same year, and shalt lay it up within thy gates:
29 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest.
1 ¶ At the end of every seven years thou shalt make a release.
2 And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that lendeth ought unto his neighbour shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbour, or of his brother; because it is called the LORD’S release.

First, this would be the second tithe as you see they are to change the money for food and drink for their own household and their assigned Levite and they ate it there.

They had to do the same with the first tithe for the Levites. They had to take the money and buy a proper tithe.
I think, they probably would have herded sheep and sold grain, etc.

What you call fundamentalism is what the Master called religious law. It is very well hidden today among the denominations and doctrines of the entire church system (church law). But none the less, it it is still man's law. And to compound things, we are now being taught to replace God's law with the new and improved man's law.
And alas, it will only get worse as this earth system begins its circle around the drain.
