When people immigrate to America, it's not necessarily because America is the "best". In some cases, it's simply a better option than where they are living.

There are no metrics by which the U.S. is considered the "best" as a country.
Please go check the border with Mexico. You have people from all over Latin America, as well as people coming as far as Africa and Asia trying to cross, trying to get in. You are telling me they couldn't find a better option between all those places and the US?

Correct, anything can be improved on.

But not acknowledging that something as it is is also damn good as it is, though it could be improved upon, just creates a climate of constant bitterness, and perpetuates a pathlogical never ending search for a perfection that does not exist.

Those who embrace change do so not because the hate this country but because they love it and see a better way. Disagreeing with their ideas, believing that their idea of a better way is completely misguided, or even possibly disastrous for the country, is also valid and surely felt out of love for country. The bitterness, I feel, comes from unwillingness to truly listen and find compromise.

People immigrate to various countries. Lots of people immigrate to Europe, Canada, etc.

You don't really think that the U.S. is the only country people immigrate to do you?

Yep. Since you mentioned the Muslim ban.

I was just pointing out the irony of Trump trying to ban people coming to the U.S. and now the rest of the world is doing the same to America.

It seems like a fitting way to bookend Trump's presidency.

I guess they didn't just expect that many people to want to leave America all at once. ;)
Or they just have a poorly run website. You are talking about those that have no respect for our laws right? Why would Canada expect them to all of a sudden change and be productive members of society?

Huh? I'm not sure what you mean by "no respect for our laws" and whatever else you are going off on now.

Yet he's president and they still want to be here.
I can't tell you how many people on my facebook timeline who claimed if Trump won back in 2016 they would leave America.

They are STILL in the US.

Illegals. Who else would leaving for Canada? If you were referring to a mass exodus of some other people then I apologize. I misunderstood your post.

There was no implication in my post that I was referring to illegal immigrants. My post was more intended to be humorous than anything; I thought it was funny that Canada's immigration web site crashed with Trump's pending election.

Shows a big difference in the way parts of society behave after an election. The right complains when they lose but go right back to work and be productive in making this a better country. The left marches in the streets looting and burning the place down. It's been non stop marching and complaining since day one.

The rest of the world is not doing the same to America. Unless you think Europe is "the rest of the world." Didn't Trump ban travellers from Europe at some point? And how long do you think the European ban will last? We may have to ban them again. Who knows who is bannable inext n this fluid situation?

Countries ban other countries all the time. Vietnam banned China since the early days of the pandemic. Yes, Vietnam, one of China's neighbors.
