When people can't be responsible enough to "self regulate" then they obviously need someone else to do it for them.
but no matter how manty laws you pass you cannot just control everything if that worked there would be no need for laws.

A regulation not working flawlessly is not an argument against regulation.

Yup. Well, they may think they don't now.

True. This story is still beyond the pale, though... I can see people stupidly assuming they're immortal and won't catch it, but I don't know what's going on in someone's head to make them actually try to catch it. It's like drinking to try to end up with alcohol poisoning, though maybe kids do that now too.

I see you're an existentialist. I'm an existential nihilist and even I don't wanna go out intubated on a ventilator!

Yeah, I was a big fan of Jean-Paul Sartre back in my atheist days, and I'm still heavily influenced by him in some ways. Is your existential nihilism along those lines or something different? I don't meet many people who identify with it. ^_^

I think ( and I am a little short of my 29th birthday that they may be trying to catch thinking that it will not be serous "let us be honest for any particular person in that age group it probably will not be) then they will have already had it and if herd immunity is a thing with this they will not need to worry about it again. Now I could well be wrong, but that would be the other reason knowing they COULD catch it.

In the county where this particular school is they will probably pass a mask rule soon ( may come down to an election to be held on July 7th another city/county has already done so so I am waiting to see how that comes out.

We have laws for the very reason that people cannot be trusted to just do the right thing.

yet people still break the laws, so why would they not break other laws?

Yes, people break laws. There are consequences though. The fact that people will break laws is not a reasonable argument against laws. Most people will still comply with them.

It’s the ‘eff you, I got mine’ doctrine aka ‘the American Dream’.
or people can be trained to care. I believe in people being accountable for THEIR OWN actions.

Okay?

What does that have to do with the FYIGM doctrine?
In other words I think that YOU have to deal with the choices YOU make.

No I understand that. But what does that have to do with Americans being inculcated into selfishness and screwing over other people for personal gain?

That is what is being suggested, not that we must take responsibility for our own actions.

Indeed, if one embraces the FYIGM doctrine one often does quite well in life (at the expense of others).

It is being suggested that that is the ‘American Way’ young people in America are being inculcated into.

Contrast with the situation in more left wing nations with a culture of putting more emphasis on the good of society exists.

What is that supposed to mean in this context?
@Desk trauma said that history wouldn't be kind to us and above is your reply to him.

Over 100 years ago, in 1918, US citizens experienced the Spanish flu pandemic without having the scientific knowledge that we have today they did everything they could to contain it and stop the spread, including wearing masks and shutting down travel into some areas that hadn't been infected yet.

Now look forward 100 yrs. having so much more scientific evidence and we can't even get people to take wearing masks seriously and worse yet demanding it's their right not to wear one and to infect other people.

We have become a me, me, me, the heck with you nation.

Yet this is a group of people who have been indoctrinated in the leftist ideology in schools. And they still do this. I wonder why.
