Some people ( college students in particular) seem to be throwing covid parties to see who will get it ( sometimes awarding money to the first person to test positive. Remines me of reading about chicken pox parties.

"Contact" with "surfaces" I guess.

The rhetoric around covid transmission is about contact with infected surfaces.

So at parties, that factor would be amplified, since they're college parties?

no what they are doing is purposefully getting together in large groups has nothing to do with surfaces.

A college party where they just sit apart and talk and don't touch each other.

Hard to imagine.

I did not say they did not touch each other that is the point to see who will get co-vid.

Stupid in the sense that they could spread it to others that did not attend the party.

Young Americans learn very quickly that we don't care about "other" people. It is part of the training.

It seems to be "working" if you could call it that at our local college.

Working? Meaning a bunch of college kids are now recklessly spreading the virus?
Yes meaning that at our local college the number has doubled in a week and a half. That is why working was in quotes because it is stupid, but if the goal was to see how many people could get co-vid they are certainly increasing in number quite quickly.

And stupid in the sense that they're subjecting themselves to unnecessary risks for a meme. Assuming that this is even true and not another "Tide Pod Challenge."

This is why we need to have policies of contact tracing and quarantine for those infected everywhere. I hope something like that is in place where these colleges are.
