'Once you belong to Christ,' said Fr. Rick Walsh, 'you belong to all others who belong to Christ as well.'

July 2, 2020 (Sons of St. Joseph) — On June 28, 2020, Paulist priest Rick Walsh offered “a reflection” entitled “We All Belong to Each Other” at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New York City; the parish is the motherhouse of the Paulist order. On June 25, 2020, Walsh also was the “celebrant” for the parish’s Pride Mass sponsored by the Paulist’s LGBT ministry “Out at St. Paul. (OSP)” During his “reflection” Walsh said:

Are they not aware…Christ is a woman…
…Christ is Black
In Christ, I am also Black.
Once you belong to Christ, you belong to all others who belong to Christ as well.
Some say that those of us who are LGBTQ members if Christ’s body do not belong to the body of Christ; totally denying our baptism.
Are they not aware that we who are LGBTQ are also living now in Christ?
That we are Christ.
Christ is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer.
In Christ, I am lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer.
Once you belong to Christ, you belong to all others who belong to Christ as well.

Jesuit priest Donal Godfrey once wrote something strangely similar:

Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.

A few years ago a priest in Milwaukee stood in front of the congregation to announce he was gay. He got a standing ovation.

When I told the story my local small town parish group they didn't really see a problem.

I talked to our local priest, who's fairly orthodox, but a real company man. He said at any one time only half of the clergy are not sexually abstinent.

You literally have to pick and choose which clergy you associate with - which is a pretty protestant concept, and not overly "catholic".

You don’t seem to understand. We have a thing called infallible teachings in the Church/ dogma. It’s not about feelings or opinion.

I understand - it seems to be the clergy that don't. And most of the lay folks don't know the difference.

Back to your original post Michie - that is just insane that happens. In a good parish there should be a bunch of people confront this guy ASAP the same day. I wouldn't let that preaching happen in front of my kids without some correction.

The thing I really wrestle with is the whole system let's this stuff go on without any corrections.

I’ve been asking since I converted. Your guess is as good as mine.

There are Catholics who are also rapists, mass murderers, wife-abusers, pedophiles, dope peddlers, thieves, and arsonists. Are we all those things as well, according to Fr. Walsh's philosophy?

I believe where Fr. Walsh fails in his analogy is that Christ is sinless; and that we Catholics are supposed to become as close as we can to Christ's sinless behavior. Christ, while being perfectly willing to associate, and hopefully save, the great, sinful, disgusting, unwashed mass of humanity, does not lower Himself to our standards of behavior.

Christ does not become a sinner like us. We are to strive to become sinless like Him. Regardless of what the current societial abnorms have degraded into.

Too often when confronting these things I have heard clergy say - "Well we are all sinners", which then translates into do nothing.

Yes, we all fall into sin. But dedicated Christians catch themselves and correct course. That's different than the guys like the above, or bishops that move abusers rather than turn them over to the law.

Good post. I agree with you. Usually, the "everybody sins" bit is a cop-out meant to relieve the responsibility to actually do something or take a stand or whatever.

How long ago did you convert Michie? I tried to about 7 years ago - but I'm not sure it took. After running into so much madness from Charismatic slain in the spirit & tongues, to liberalism, to socialist views - I never really immersed myself, as I kept being repelled by what I found.

I definitely have gotten out of the pool, and am sitting on the edge for now.

The Church needs to be purged.

Purged of insidious clergy who tacitly approve of these blasphemous and heretical messages and clergy who would openly promote them like this priest.

Purged of recalcitrant laypeople whose only interest in the Church is tied to the extent to which they think they can change it.

And it needs to have happened yesterday.

Those days are coming when a choice must be made. But for all the Priests and Catholics who say
" but we can't just kick all those people out; who will pay the bills?"

The answer is you do what a grocery store does:

Every day they go through the fresh produce and pick out the rotten stuff and throw it away.
They go through the canned goods and toss the out-of-date stuff,
and they refuse to sell it because it's not healthy, and could make people sick.

Our priests should have the courage to do the same.

If people trot on up to the Eucharist line, but they haven't been to confession in a while, give them a blessing but no Eucharist until they straighten up and toe the line.

Sure, they may get angry, but better to be angry than condemned!

But Markie I know you read the word, so surely you understand that these times we are living in were prophesied. Our job is to stand in Christ Jesus no matter what. We need to be role models for those who who are looking for truth in these times.

I am not in anyway saying that I am a great role model but we all have to keep striving even in these latter times.

Keep on keeping on brother.

Thank you. There is no way I'm leaving Christianity. But I think the time is coming the RCC is going to have to come clean on things. There has been sin that needs to be purged in the Church - but there has also been poor practices and even one dogma that I think is historically false, and that is Papal Infallibility. I fully understand it's limits - but I have read it's history in depth, and the historical Church does not support it - no way. This thinking has set the tone for much that's gone wrong, and I think until the Church repents of it - more trouble will keep coming.

So I'm not sure the RCC is the place to be.

I’m Catholic. I know what the Church teaches but I cannot help but think of scripture where ‘whitewashed tombs’ are described.

I am not not the type to bash. My belief is if one follows Christ with good intentions then that is between them and Christ. We work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
