So I have had to shop for us and pick up things for our parents. Between the heat and the mask, I go into full claustrophobic/anxiety mode. I feel like my face is breaking out in hives. Seriously, if they want us to wear masks they need to make some that are feasible to wear. It was awful!

I know exactly the feeling. I was this way before summer hit. The masks are completely unnatural as much as everyone guilt's everybody over it. We were not made to breath in our own exhaust, unless we are in the dead of winter where wearing them would actually help to keep you warm outside or anytime you are stuck in the cold.

I haven't had hives, but I get claustrophobia and suffocating sensation freak out quite a lot. I basically have to cheat and have my nose stick out to wear them long term, where I can at least breath in some cold air through my nose.

How do you have the courage to shop without a mask in a store that requires it? I need to learn how to withstand dirty looks if I want to get anywhere in this world.
I give enough dirty looks under my mask because I’m freaking out. Lol! More people are not wearing masks than not now. I have people to care for so I wear it.

The only time I wear a mask is when I am running into the store. It is more a prop.
Unfortunately, running to the store can run into quite the ordeal. We are still experiencing shortages here among other things. Shopping for 3 households is hard.

Most stores still require it here. But with temperature and humidity they are significant health hazards, and your body is telling you as much. I would go with a porous fabric or tie the mask loosely if I had to wear one.

I don't see as many shortages of things anymore. There are still shortages, but things are coming back. Heck, I even think there are a SURPLUS of masks sold in stores now. They're on the shelves yet they're not flying off the shelves.

Not here at all. Shopping is a pain in the behind. Masks are the icing on the cake.

that sucks. there's a lot of meat over here, the dairy is also filled up, but rice and pasta are low. toilet paper is making a meager comeback, but I see a positive sign. however I don't know what will happen if we all go back in lockdown again.

Hi michie,

You do know that you don't have to wear the masks outside, for the most part. Only if you're in a crowd of people. Me, I carry my mask in my pocket and just before I go into a store, where it's generally nicely air conditioned, I put it on. I don't wear it every minute of the day and you don't have to either. Whenever you are inside or expect to be within 6 feet of someone, you should wear the mask.

However, it does take some getting used to and there are different masks. Some do make you feel fairly claustrophobic. Some are harder to breathe in than others. I like the masks that are advertised on ebay for $10-15. They have two breathing ports to make breathing easier and they don't quite fit flush to the face like some of the buy in 50 bulk paper or thin material masks. This is what I have:
abb96edf5bfa62602997eda8936b529570567262.jpg

It has a nice heavy velcro style neck band and the ear loops. You can buy replaceable filters for it and it's washable.

Hope that helps.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

It’s different here every week. Everything from the pharmacy to food and items such as tp, etc. it’s stressful. Plus the jump in prices. I used to buy rubbing alcohol for 2 for a dollar. Now one little bottle is almost 3 bucks.

Thanks Ted. :). I’m just really stressing right now. The oppressive heat is not helping.

I understand. One of my grown daughters has trouble breathing when she wears a mask.

If I have to go out in the heat with one, I think the mask will be soaking wet and cling to my face.

Basically you want to do the minimum to keep the mask nazis quiet. For instance, here's the mask that paragon of integrity, Alyssa Milano, who is not a hypocrite, but who is always virtuous, wears.

A horsefly could fit through that, let alone a virus.

My N95 mask lost both its around-the-head elastics recently. I made a new top one of an old cut down waistband and left the lower one off, and the mask fit very loosely. I was delighted with how it felt. I knew I was breathing unfiltered air, and I also knew that barring people coughing or sneezing on you that is the healthiest thing to do. Masks harbor dirt and germs, and they trap toxin-laden air that we then rebreath, and the restrict breathing. All these add up to a significant health hazard.
