Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

Why many people say that God love the sinner, but hate the sin? Is sin something which can be hate? It is not alive being, who do evil!

Good Day,

Greek NT scholar DA Carson addresses this question:

Does God Love the Sinner but Hate the Sin?

The way I see it this statement is not very comforting for the sinner as God sends (the person) sinners to hell, and not their sin, but the sinner (person) themselves.

God hates the evil doer that is inescapable.

In Him,
Bill

If God loves the sinner and hates the sin, he wouldn’t destroy those who don’t repent of their sin.
If God hated the sinner, He would not have provided a way of escape to the sinner. Repentance is the way of escape. So, if the sinner chooses to not repent,to not take the Way of escape, then his blood is on his own head. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Why many people say that God love the sinner, but hate the sin? Is sin something which can be hate? It is not alive being, who do evil!

We will have to define in what way God hates sinners. I have to admit it's pretty complicated if you also read other scriptures like this one:

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

My explanation is this. God has a particular kind of love for different sinners, he saves some and condemns others. As this scripture says:

Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
Rom 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
Rom 9:15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

There is a general love God has for mankind for:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

But he has a special love for those who are His chosen. Trust me.I think if God truly hated sinners and specially those who have not believed they would not live for very long since once they are able to comprehend what is sin they would be instantly destroyed, just like anything a human being who completely hates something or someone would do. So the fact that sinners are still alive is a clear sign God loves them in some way, but He does hate them in another way according to the scripture you and I quoted.

Islam says that god hates people unless they turn to him (allah that devil god). So saying God only hates sinners is false.

God hates sin. Jesus does what He tells us to do, so He loves his enemies giving them time to come to Him. We are in a dispensation of grace where the sin of the world has been placed on Christ. Throughout the gospels Christ loved the sinner and stood against sin. The law was given through Moses but grace and truth came through Jesus.

We are in a dispensation of grace. What verse did Christ leave out of His first temple reading but added back in when asked about the end of the age. Context.

I agree we are in a different dispensation of grace.

In Him,
Bill

if that were the case Jesus would have had to execute judgment on the sinner in His earthly ministry but instead He loved them. Either bill is wrong or God is a liar because God would not tolerate something He hates, His nature would not allow it. We are in a dispensation of grace.

The law was given through Moses but grace and truth came through Christ.

(CLV) Jn 8:32
and you will know the truth, and the truth will be making you free."

(CLV) Ps 119:142
Your righteousness is eonian righteousness, And Your law is truth.

(CLV) Mal 2:6
The law of truth, it came to be in his mouth, and iniquity, it was not found on his lips. In peace and in uprightness he walked with Me, and turned many back from depravity.

(CLV) Ro 2:20
a discipliner of the imprudent, a teacher of minors, having the form of knowledge and the truth in the law.

add commentary with a specific point. I see your angle but not going down the rabbit trail in a response.

What happened with Sodom and Gomorrah?
I guess the angels forgot to “love the sinner but hate the sin”.
God provided the way of escape. Lot offered to his sons in law the way of escape, but, unbelieving, they chose to stay and were consumed with the city.
Gen.19:12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:

13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.

14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
