Biden sorry for 'cavalier' remark on black voters

Democratic White House candidate Joe Biden is in damage limitation mode after saying African Americans "ain't black" if they even consider voting for President Donald Trump over him.

Gaffe-prone Mr Biden made the remark in an interview on Friday with a prominent black radio host, Charlamagne Tha God, about his outreach to black voters.

CNN, which often dedicates wall-to-wall coverage for any latest controversy from President Trump, virtually avoided covering Joe Biden's "you ain't black" remarks Friday morning that sparked backlash throughout the day.

Poor Joe he just can't help himself......but he has a natural ability to hurt himself. He is the perfect example of a guy who could start WW III using nothing more than his mouth.

Biden's tendency to speak his mind has often gotten him in trouble. Not as often as Trump's tendency to make up false stories has gotten Trump in trouble, but still it's there.

Truman was like that, too. Unlike Trump, Biden knows how to admit his failing and apologize when he should. You may have noticed that when Trump messes up, he never apologizes and seeks a scapegoat.

This reminds me of Hillary's comment about Trump supporters being despicables.

Apparently Biden thinks blacks need old white guys to tell them who to vote for. Couple this comment with his comment that inner city kids of color do worse on standardized exams because of their parents and getting the inside view of Biden's thoughts is not pleasant.

This reminds me of Hillary's comment about Trump supporters being despicables.

Ah, a myth. O.K. She actually only pointed to a fraction of them as "deplorables." Guys like the KKK group that held a parade to celebrate Trump's victory. White nationalists, and so on.

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” Clinton said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic—you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”

She said the other half of Trump’s supporters “feel that the government has let them down” and are “desperate for change.”

“Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well,” she said.

Apparently Biden thinks blacks need old white guys to tell them who to vote for.

It's not what he said. And since he said that what he actually did say was wrong, and apologized, you seem to be reaching pretty far. Wouldn't it be great to have a president again, who was man enough to admit it when he was wrong, instead of trying to find a scapegoat?

Couple this comment with his comment that inner city kids of color do worse on standardized exams because of their parents

It is true that the biggest factor in academic performance is parents. The highest predictor of high performance is a mother with an advanced degree. The second highest predictor of high performance is a father with an advanced degree. The third predictor is family income. So he's right. The children of poor, uneducated parents tend to do poorly in school. You seem to think telling the truth is a problem.

There's a fix for that. A program in schools called AVID, takes promising, motivated kids from those environments and put them in classes where they learn the culture of education, things a lot of kids get from parents who experienced it as children. And it works. Over 90 percent of the kids who stay with the program through high school, graduate from college. Not bad, um? But the first thing is to be willing to face the facts.
AVID® / Closing the Achievement Gap in Education

One of the first things you have to do to fix a problem, is to face it. I get that Trump has been teaching you just the opposite. But look what avoiding the COVID-19 pandemic has done to him. And to us.

Give it some thought.

and getting the inside view of Biden's thoughts is not pleasant.

Reality is often not pleasant. It's more pleasant to believe that the pandemic was controlled, and that it would just go away. Trump's refusal to face the fact had consequences:

Yes...he let the cat out of the bag and exposed what Democrats believed since LBJ. I still cannot believe Joe is getting a pass for whitesplaining to black people as to what qualifies them as black.

Ask yourself what would happen if Trump told a group of white people, "If you are having problems deciding whether to vote for me or Biden, then you are not white!"

Have you seriously thought about it? Would Trump have gotten away with just an apology?

Now tell me again Biden isn't getting a pass.

Ask yourself what would happen if Trump told a group of white people, "If you are having problems deciding whether to vote for me or Biden, then you are not white!"

I know what would happen.

  1. He'd first deny he ever said it.
  2. Then, when a video appeared, he'd have one of his spokesmen claim "he was being sarcastic."
  3. Then he'd blame it on Obama.

What he usually does.

Would Trump have gotten away with just an apology?

He is mentally unable to apologize. He first denies things like that, and then has a surrogate try to pass it off as a joke, and then, if that doesn't work, blames it on other people.

Now tell me again Biden isn't getting a pass.

Since Biden has said he was wrong and apologized, even Biden isn't giving Biden a pass. This may be a really hard idea for you to get, but if someone messes up, owns up to it, and apologizes, they are actually more credible than someone who messes up, lies about it, sends someone else to lie about it, and then look for someone to take the blame.

But it's true. Trust me. Your approach makes Biden look like the good guy here, because he admitted it and took responsibility. He still deserves critcism for what he said.

Really, half? I guess that is "a fraction". Regardless of how you cut it the comment was arrogant, insulting and dismissive.

She said the other half of Trump’s supporters “feel that the government has let them down” and are “desperate for change.”
That is also arrogant, insulting and dismissive. So there was not a single voter for Trump who agreed with his platform? Trump promised to go after China (like every other president before him) and he did. He promised to appoint pro life judges and He did. He promised to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and he did. He promised to build a wall, and all of the credit for what has been built so far has to go to him. It doesn't matter if these points are not important to you, they were important to his voters.

I am not a Trump supporter, I am a truth supporter. Trump did not win the last election, Clinton lost it. She was arrogant and insulting. Her husband engineered NAFTA which caused many people their jobs. It is quite reasonable that that one point would be the single biggest factor in your decision of who to vote for.

“Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well,” she said.
Read Hillary Clinton's 'Basket of Deplorables' Remarks on Trump Supporters
https://time.com/4486502/hillary-clinton-basket-of-deplorables-transcript/ Once again it is an "us versus them" stance. I have read what she said, I saw what her husband did, and I can fully appreciate anyone choosing not to vote for her, which many did.

If you're part of the first group, she called you "deplorable." If you're part of the second group of Trump supporters, she expressed empathy for you. Which group are you?https://time.com/4486502/hillary-clinton-basket-of-deplorables-transcript/

What an ugly, despicable question. I am not a Trump supporter. I didn't vote for him. I simply recognize that based on our election he is the President and I am disgusted with those who ignore how deplorable Hillary Clinton was and dismiss anyone who would vote for trump as either despicable or in need of our sympathy.

It's not what he said. And since he said that what he actually did say was wrong, and apologized, you seem to be reaching pretty far. Wouldn't it be great to have a president again, who was man enough to admit it when he was wrong, instead of trying to find a scapegoat?
Wow, well that takes campaigning and choosing a president to a whole new level. We don't care what the candidates say or think as long as when it blows up in their face they apologize? Well that casts a whole new light on those who are voting for Biden. I guess I am still old school enough to use this time to get an idea of what the candidates think as I make my decision.

It is true that the biggest factor in academic performance is parents. The highest predictor of high performance is a mother with an advanced degree. Wow, you are exceedingly arrogant. I am a HS teacher who teaches inner city youth. I have given this lots of thought for my entire career. I home schooled my three kids with very good success.

But what you are clearly not aware of because you have hit this topic very superficially is there are schools that perform as well as the very best schools in the country and yet they are composed of these inner city kids of color whose parents are not, for the most part, college graduates. My own class came into our school in 9th grade with average scores, in the 50th percentile for NYC, and by the end of the 10th grade they are scoring in the top 7th percentile on the Science Regents exam given to all students. No students anywhere in NYC have shown as much improvement over two years as these students. Yet they are about 80% males, and approximately 50/50 black and hispanic. They score very high on the poverty index and other schools with the same demographics generally score in the bottom 25% of NYC. So yes, they have to live with a mountain of bias on them, but anyone who looks at the data fairly realizes the real issues involved. I could go into detail, I did on another thread where this is more appropriate.

1. I didnt vote for Hillary, so I am therefore "sexist".
2. I believe in the rule of law regarding illegal immigration, so I am therefore "xenophobic" and "racist".
3. I believe that a biblical marriage is between one man and one woman but I believe homosexual couples can have a secular civil union, so I am therefore "homophobic".

Does that answer your question?

Is this really how low we have fallen, that we need to remind people the candidate deserves criticism for this remark? If someone applying to be a teacher in NYC said this they would be immediately disqualified from the job. Apologize, great, but no way you get hired to teach kids. Yet we are told to ignore this from Biden because he apologized and if we don't we are scapegoating.

These are just the new low standards set by the left to justify their anger towards anything Trump, to include his supporters. The day after the 2016 election, that basket of "irredeemable deplorables" went from only 50% of Trump supporters to 100% of them. This is why people are attacked for wearing a MAGA hat.
