God's punishment is generally to let people suffer the consequences of their actions. Mercy is when He steps in to limit the damage. Before I was saved, I used to drink and ride my motorbike. That is not a good idea. Why I survived and others did not I attribute to God's mercy, even before I was saved. Why me? That is a mystery. For sure I have no inherent qualities that would make me an asset to God's kingdom.

The scripture says that God is righteous in all His ways.

I've wondered at times if God dealt injustice to Job who was perfect and upright in his ways.

But I know there was a reason He did this and it wasn't injustice. One day I will know the reason, but not now.

That is not how it works.

All 10 can be forgiven, 5 of them chose not to be.
