The only time the average person hears about WHO is every 100 years or so when this kind of emergency pops up.
My PhD supervisor, who turned 77 this year, was asked to fly from his home town in Australia to Geneva (WHO HQ) to help with the global response to this pandemic. He was offered at cost recompense, and a guarantee of not returning to Australia until it was over.
He, of course, said yes.
Did I ever say that WHO was bad? I only quoted your faulty logic about it being immune to criticism in my first statement because I was surprised you'd even let something so absurd escape your mouth. Even mother Teresa is not exempt from criticism.
Except you are. You are on the side of the petty minded selfish bless and do not curses who think that the WHO is comprised...actually, I don't know how to end that sentence. Who do you think works for WHO?
If you had read between the lines, so to speak, on my previous post, you'd find I don't even have any idea what's being talked about. I was simply commenting on how stupid your response and overall logic was. So no, I'm not on the side of the 'petty minded bless do not curse' side--whatever that's supposed to mean.
My side being the selfless people that put themselves in harms way to help everyone else.
LOL, guess I should tell all of the Christians organizing charities, risking their lives going on missionary trips in third world countries and those who also go into dangerous job fields because of their faith that they aren't doing enough.
You are correct, that is not the winning side. That's the humans side. I dream at night of waking up in a world where Christians are on that side.
Hasn't happened yet.
Except you really don't, because there are plenty of Christians on that 'side'-- you'd apparently rather acknowledge only the ones you dislike since otherwise you'd lose part of your narrative on the 'evil rich white right-wing christians'. I'm surprised that for someone who is so 'human', you seem to have little to no compassion for those who disagree with you. I mean, God forbid you actually be kind and politely explain why someone is wrong and how their thinking is negatively impacting others, amirite?
But it's OK, I'll leverage the 30 years experience I have in evolutionary biology to help build a vaccine to COVID19 so that "aussie" Pete can continue to tell us how evolution is false.
You could be helping build a vaccine, but you choose instead to spend your time belittling people on some online forum? Wow.
I am so tempted to send an email out to the myriad colleagues I have in this field, and ask them to just stop. Stop the vaccine research, stop the therapeutic research, stop the public health initiatives. Let 10-15% of the world die, and wait for them to crawl on their bellies for forgiveness. Sadly, I am in this for the problem solving around high dimensional data, they are in it to help people, so it wont wash.
Okay? I'm not really sure what response you want out of that except say congratulations, you're petty, spiteful and have no patience.
Honestly I'm also surprised someone so 'human' finds it difficult to look at anything from someone else's perspective. Obviously OP had a problem with WHO, because they're worried about corruption in the organization. They provided a video that led them to believe that, and they have every right as a HUMAN to be concerned. WHO has helped many people, which is exactly why it's crucial that it stays in the best shape it can.
What you could've done is understood where OP was coming from, addressed the issue with facts and attempt to clear up any misconceptions about this group you obviously care about.
Yet instead you decided it was a better idea to belittle everyone, throw insults and assumptions to 'poison the well' and then use your ties to said organization/field to somehow shield yourself from any criticism of your behavior.
On average I tend to like atheists just fine, but right now you're acting like the typical 16 year old regular on r/atheism who still can't forgive his parents for making him go to church. Grow up and get a hold of yourself. If you want to prove that you're so much better than all of the lousy Christians, maybe start with being less of a jerk.
