Does anyone like to chat about and use one verse each day? Who would like to do Bble studies based on the Verse of the Day in this thread?

So how are matters in Gainesville ... I hear that your Governor is a bit hesitant to take as drastic precautions as ours, here in Washinton State. Your general population is older ... a lot of those who
have retired to the sunshine, so I hope that isn't a mistake. Take Care!

Anyway, "a verse a day" approach seems more like an exercise (to me), and often just one verse is not
enough to get a good grasp on the intended context ... but then again, good,m if this works for you. Are you then thinking about starting with verse one of some epistle, and working your way through the whole thing, or would this be a random verse a day (as the spirit leads)?

I'm partial to Pauline epistles, and like random (which for me, always seems to somehow be current) ...
another posting (elsewhere) recently was phrased in a manner that indicated that Paul's letters were more specifically aimed at a particular congregation, rather than the Body of Christ in general ...

I happen to think Paul knew that he was speaking to the larger audience ... so here's a verse (3:1) from 2Thessalonians, that has always had me wondering ... was this specifically aimed JUST at these Thessalonians or is God speaking down through the ages to us today? That is, is the intent, even today,
for us pray for ... Paul ... for what Paul has to say?

3:1 To~the remaining [matter]: Yourselves~be you towards-praying about us, brethrened, so-that the word of~the Lord should race; and accordingly-as also, towards you He should be glorified;

Second verse, same question as the first ...to pray for Paul?

3:2 and so-that, we should be delivered from the misplaced and wicked [ones],
for the trust [be] not of~all humans.

This is my own reading of the Byzantine Greek, so the literal wording might not be what you are used to,
but rest assured each word has been gone over rigorously so as to be what I think of as being "transparent" ... that is, the intent is that one can look down, through the English and know what the Greek words underneath are saying.

But back to the question ... Does God intend us, today, to literally pray for ..."Paul" ... to speak clearly?

I see where you are going with this Robin. If we would pray that Paul's letters would 'speak clearly' to this generation, perhaps his words would be found to be unto edification, and not division within the body of Christ. Are you then suggesting that anointed words sent from God should speak to us as 'in the room with us', assuming that the listener is abiding in the Spirit?
The Holy Spirit showed me a parable by way of remembrance about 30 years ago. I remembered that when I was in the Navy, there were guys who were devoted letter writers, every evening! And every day, first in line for mail call. But then Sunday came...no mail call, and what would they do? Pull a shoebox out of their closet or footlocker and re-read all their mail! The Apostolic letters have always spoken to me in the same way. I go into my 'prayer closet', pull out my 'shoebox' and re-read letters as if they had been just written, to me. And I am always edified. For the Spirit of the Lord to speak to us, we have to me in a mode to receive. People who engage in theological debates in such regards as 'is Paul still valid, or are his words applicable to the modern world will quickly come to the wrong conclusions. You must receive, like a plant opening up before the rain. That is not rain you smell just before a downfall, it is nature opening up to receive.
John 3:27. John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

You brought tears to my eyes, James ...
See, I told you that we are in agreement about most things; I was just suggesting that you use the correct words if you are going to quote scripture ... but these your own words, here, they are perfect.

I appreciate your devotion to the written word, and your faithfulness. I am going to post something I wrote about hearing the voice of the spirit. When I am reading scripture aloud, and listening with my spirit, the translation becomes less critical, as I press in to hearing what the voice of the Spirit is saying. Same goes for listening to preaching, or any other spoken word, I listen to the voice of the Spirit. I can testify in sincerity and Truth, that I have heard many a preacher grieve the Holy Spirit, which I experience in a way that is very similar to nausea.

Posted in Exposition and Bible Study, my usual forum, but I also post in the daily devotional, and the lightly read blog.

That's the second time someone has mentioned this specific forum to me ...I can not find it listed in the list of forums?

Oh yes ... I've been there, just didn't pay attention to the forum title ...thanks
Sure thing. Under devotions I am currently looking at Paul's 'eye of your understanding' (dianoia) from Ephesians 1:18, as you mentioned. I am much more 'piecemeal' if that is a good word for 'short and sweet' under the daily devotional.

Frustrating it is, Yoda ...

James, you mention Eph 1:18 as if it contained the word "dianoi" (#1271) ...

IT DOES NOT!

As close as I can tell, you might be referring to that Greek word (above) ..."eidenai" ...
used many times (in many forms), in the Pauline epistles ... Strong's inadvertently carries it under his listing number of #1492; however, the many, more modern attempts at adjusting Strongs, have now assigned this Greek word under the number #3609 ... be that as it may (3609 or 1492) ... "eidenai" (and all its various conjugations), are not the same Greek word as "dianoi" (#1271) ...

First ...FIRST... the words correct, and only then be drawing your conclusions ...Anakin

Interesting! In the BLB interlinear, it shows that dianoia is used in that verse! I am starting to not like all this Greek discrepancy stuff. Does your base text use this word in Mark 12:30 when Jesus teaches on the shema? G1271 - dianoia - Strong's Greek Lexicon (KJV)

Yes, it is used in Mark 12:30 ...

(James)
"I'm beginning to not like all this Greek discrepancy stuff ..."

(Robin)
Would that be, as in not liking the discrepancies ... or ... not wanting to know that they exist?

I was, at one time, a Quality Assurance auditor for the DOD ... in charge of seeing that the nuclear reactors on USN warships were refueled and maintained properly, during overhauls ...

And at the critique (after some terrible oversights had been uncovered), a fellow engineer (one of the culprits, responsible for the mess) had the balls to say, in front of the Shipyard Commander ...

"If you guys would stop finding these problems, we wouldn't have any!"

Sort of sounds akin to your statement,
"I am starting to not like all this Greek discrepancy stuff ..."

(Sophie)
If you would only stop pointing out all these verse mistakes, then we wouldn't have any, Robin ...

Man, I love that. No I am not wanting the discrepancies to go away. haha. I am just conveying the notion that inadequacies of translations, concordances, BLB interlinears, or whatever else will never undermine my confidence in the Holy Spirit being able to give me the understanding. To open to me the scriptures, regardless of the version. I have used many in parallel, and I swear by none. They are a work of man, requiring the Holy Spirit to enlighten us.
So, did your work East coast or West coast. My sub went through overhaul at Bremerton back in 1982.

USS Queenfish, SSN-651, fast attack submarine. Steely eyed killers of the deep.

(Robin)
Cramped, dirty, miserable little Fast Attack ... as I seem to recall, didn't your crew (when in the Shipyard), have an outbreak of TB ... or maybe it was the boat (the Astro?) before your arrival?

Puget Sound was my home base, but I was a NAVSEA Auditor all over the country (and off-station);
I also did about a two-year stint of Environmental/ Hazardous Waste auditing, round-about in a lot of unfortunate places ...(I made a lot of CEO's cry).
My tenure on submarines was all aboard the USS Nathan Hale (Nathan Nobber we called her), the old slow, but deadly. SSBN 623 ...

No mere "steely-eyed killers," we ...
we ballistic missile boat cut-throats, we had countries to kill, worlds to exterminate ...

While we were there the Big E and the Long Beach were getting most of the attention. We were in for an 18 month non refueling overhaul, so we probably didn't get a visit from you.
Did you ever visit the training reactors in upstate New York?
I was an instructor on the S3G core 3 ATC prototype. Pretty country up there.
While at Puget, we were housed at what was the brand new Trident base up the road from Bummerton. That was nice. Fell in love with ferry rides into Seattle, hanging out in Pioneer Square. Good times.
No TB outbreak, just a lot of alcoholism. So long ago...

As I recall, you Nuks had the mistaken idea that a submarine was JUST the nuclear reactor ...
all the other stuff, was just to support the reactor compartment ...including the weapons!
