Hi all friendly discussion please.

Some try to claim that the Sabbath given at creation is a claim that is not true but is that the truth according to the scriptures? I would like to examine this in detail to show why the Sabbath was indeed given to mankind at creation and this was the reason God made the Sabbath.

So the question we are considering here is...

1. WAS THE SABBATH GIVEN TO MANKIND AT CREATION?
2. WHY DID GOD MAKE THE SABBATH?

..................

Let's start with the scriptures showing when God made the seventh day Sabbath and see why it was made and who it was made for and connect all the scriptures starting in GENESIS...

WHERE IS THE SABBATH IN GENESIS 2:1-3?

GOD's 4th Commandment is refering to GENESIS 2:1-3 in EXODUS 20:8-11.

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. [2], And ON THE SEVENTH DAY God ended his work which he had made; and he RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] on the SEVENTH DAY from all his work which he had made. [3], And GOD BLESSED THE SEVENTH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY: because that in it he had RESTED [שׁבת; shâbath H7673; Keep Sabbath] from all his work which God created and made.

Links to God’s 4th Commandment

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY [Made Holy at creation GENESIS 2:3]. [9], Six days shall you labor, and do all your work: [10], But THE SEVENTH DAY [ Genesis 2:1-3] IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD YOUR GOD : in it you shall not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: [WHY?] [11], FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY; WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY AND MADE IT HOLY. [Refering to GENESIS 2:1-3]

Look at the HEBREW WORD meanings...

The Hebrew word for RESTED used here is שׁבת; shâbath (H7673) which is the root word of Sabbath (noun). The Hebrew word for RESTED is the verb of doing or "KEEPING THE SABBATH" It's meaning is; to repose, that is, desist from exertion; used in many implied relations (causatively, figuratively or specifically): - (cause to, let, make to) cease, celebrate, cause (make) to fail, KEEP SABBATH, suffer to be lacking, leave, put away (down), (make to) rest, rid, still, take away.

The HEBREW Word for shabbâth is the noun or discription of what is being kept. It's meaning is the intermission between SABBATHS or RESTS (H7673) or the continuation meaing from one SABBATH REST to the Next SABBATH REST or EVERY SABBATH REST. It's application is in God's 4th commandment EXODUS 20:8 is to REMEMBER [EVERY] Sabbath [shabbâth H7676] and points back to creation with "REMEMBER".

In the 4th commandment *EXODUS 20:8-11; v11 tells us the ORIGINS of God's 4th commandments Sabbath is in reference to GENESIS 2:1-3 and the reason why it is given as a memorial of Greation to whorship God as the creator of Heaven and Earth.

...............

Note here in GENESIS 2:1-3 that it was in the creation week when God had finished his creation in six days that He rested on the SEVENTH DAY of the week from all His Work that he had made and He "SET APART" the seventh day of the week and "BLESSED" the seventh day" and made the seventh day a "HOLY DAY" of rest. The seventh day SABBATH therefore according to the scriptures is "GOD'S REST"

The reason why the SABBATH was made was not because God needed rest but for mankind to remember and celebrate God as the God of creation. JESUS in His own Words as the God of creation says this in His own words here...

MARK 2:27 [27], And he said to them, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN and not man for the Sabbath.

The Greek word used here for MAN is G444 ἄνθρωπος; anthrōpos From G435 and ὤψ ōps (the countenance ; from G3700); manfaced, that is, a human being: - certain, man.

JESUS tells has that the Sabbath was made for mankind on the "SEVENTH DAY" of the creation week. JESUS is the LORD of the SABBATH *MARK 2:28 and commands His people to "REMEMBER" the Sabbath which is the "SEVENTH DAY" of the week and to keep the "SEVENTH DAY" of the week as a "HOLY DAY OF REST" as a memorial of creation and a celebration of JESUS as the God of creation in EXODUS 20:8-11. Lets look at the links in God's 4th commandment of the 10 commandments to GENESIS 2:1-3 of when the seventh day Sabbath was created and link this back to the new testament scriptures...

God's 4th commandments points back to GENESIS 2:1-3 and creation...

EXODUS 20:8-11 [8], REMEMBER the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> [Because JESUS made it a Holy day of rest for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day] [9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: [10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God [This is a direct reference from God's Word defining what the Sabbath is; The SABBATH = the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK]: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

The reason for the Sabbath Commandment is to REMEMBER the God of creation. He rested on the SEVENTH DAY of the WEEK, BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK and made it a HOLY DAY that no work is to be done. v11 Refers back to Genesis 2:1-3 and the origin of the Sabbath. v8 shows that this commandment is a MEMORIAL of creation v11 [the reason for the 4th commandment].

Summary of the above is simply that GENESIS 2:1-3 is the origin of when God made the Sabbath for all mankind according to the words of JESUS. RESTING on the Sabbath from our work is SABBATH KEEPING or how the Sabbath is kept. As we from the heart obey Gods' 4th commandment we enter into Gods' REST of the "seventh day Sabbath"

GENESIS 2:1-3 is INDEED the ORIGIN of the SABBATH (First Sabbath). It is the SEVENTH DAY of creation that God blessed, set apart and made a HOLY DAY for all mankind. Nearly every section of GENESIS 2:1-3 is repeated in EXODUS 20:8-11 of God's 4th commandment as the reason why we are to REMEMBER God's Sabbath.

This links directly into the new testament scriptures of believing the gospel of our Lord JESUS Christ here...

HEBREWS 4:1-11
[1], Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into HIS REST, any of you should seem to come short of it.
[2], For to us was the gospel preached, as well as to them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[3], For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into MY REST: ALTHOUGH THE WORKS WERE FINISHED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.
[4], FOR HE SPOKE IN A CERTAIN PLACE (GENSIS 2:1-3) OF THE SEVENTH DAY ON THIS WISE, AND GOD DID REST THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS.
[5], And in this place again, If they shall enter into MY REST.

NOTE
: CONTEXT is God's REST from the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST OF CREATION (v4-5) and those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW GOD's WORD enter into God's SABBATH REST as GOD did on the SEVENTH DAY of the week. CONTEXT is GOD's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH REST and those who BELIEVE AND FOLLOW GOD'S WORD enter into that rest which God's WORD defines as the SEVENTH DAY SABBATH which is GOD'S REST!

The scriptures show that God's SEVENTH DAY SABBATH according to the very words of JESUS was made for mankind at the seventh day of the creation week. While mankind was made on the sixth day of the creation week. ADAM and EVE where the first to keep God's SABBATH.

God bless.

If the Lord said so, then so shall I do because i love Him. Even if i do not, i do not because i love Him.

One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. Romans 14:5-8

Some people try to quote the scripture COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 and claim that this refers to God's seventh day Sabbath of the 4th commandment not realising that there are many Sabbaths included in the bible that are not God's 4th commandment and can fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle.

These include;

1. The Sabbaths of the Feast of unleavened bread (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:6-8
2. The Sabbath on the annual day of Atonement that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:27-32
3. The Sabbath on the annual Feast of Trumpets that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:24-25?
4. The Sabbath on the Feast of Booths that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:34-36
5. Feast of first fruits (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:39
6. The sabbaths (sabbaton plural) of holy convocations from the annual feast days *LEVITICUS 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36 that can fall on any days of the week
7. The Sabbath of the land (7 year single cycle) *LEVITICUS 25:2
8. The Sabbath of Jubilee - culminating of the 7x7 yearly cycles sabbaths *LEVITICUS 25:9-54
9. Or God's 4th commandment seventh day weekly Sabbath which is one of the 10 commandments that define sin when broken? *EXODUS 20:8-11 from GENESIS 2:1-3

Many of these annual festival sabbaths were prophetic in nature (types and Shadow sabbaths) pointing to JESUS and God's plan of salvation in the new covenant and could fall on any day of the week depending on the yearly cycle. They are not the same as Gods' 4th commandment which is a weekly memorial of creation in God's 10 commandments.

The context of sabbaths (Greek word meaning sabbaton plural GNP meaning simply ceasing from work) in COLOSSIANS 2:16 is to the annual sabbaths in feast days.

A detailed scripture response starting here for those interested
.

The reason why Gods' 4th Commandment *EXODUS 20:8-11 cannot be a shadow (type) Sabbath is because it is a part of the FINISHED WORK of creation. Another words according to the scripture it points backwards to creation not forward to something to come.

Indeed, the weekly Sabbath points back to creation which we as God's people are to remember, as it is written...

The Sabbath is a part of the FINISHED WORK of creation as it is written...

GENESIS 2:1-3 [1], THIS THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH WERE FINISHED, AND ALL THE HOST OF THEM.

Being a part of a FINISHED WORK it is impossible for the SABBATH to be a SHADOW law from the MOSAIC book of the law because when the SABBATH was made for all mankind there was NO SIN and mankind was in perfect harmony with God and needed NO SALVATION and there was no plan of salvation given to mankind because mankind did not need saving.

God bless

Sadly my dear friend ROMANS 14 says nothing about Gods' 4th commandment. ROMANS 14 is in relation eating and not eating (fasting) on days that men esteem over other days and judging others in this regard. There is no reference to Gods' 4th commandment in all of ROMANS 14. In fact you will not find a single scripture in all of God's Word that says Gods' 4th commandment has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. This is simply a teaching and tradition of men handed down to Christianity by the Roman Catholic Church. JESUS warns us about this in MATTHEW 15:2-9. According to the scriptures God's 4th commandment is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of GOOD and EVIL; SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7; 1 JOHN 3:4; PSALMS 119:172 and if we break any one of them according to the scriptures we stand guilty before God "under the law" *ROMANS 3:19 of breaking the whole law *JAMES 2:10-11. Who should we believe and follow; God or man *ACTS 5:29; ROMANS 3:4? I believe the scriptures teach that God has his people in every church *JOHN 10:16 and many break His 4th commandment out of ignorance ACTS 17:30-31 but when he gives us a knowledge of the truth calls us to believe and follow His Word *JAMES 4:17. The hour is coming and now is that the true worshippers will worship God in Spirit and in truth. God is a Spirit and those who worship him must whorship him in Spirit and in truth *JOHN 4:23-24. God is calling his people out from following man made teachings and traditions that break the commandments of God back to the pure Word of God *MATTHEW 15:2-9; REVELATION 18:1-5. Who will hear the call to go out and meet the bridegroom?

Strong's Number G4521 matches the Greek σάββατον (sabbaton),
which occurs 68 times in 62 verses in the Greek concordance of the KJV

Mat 12:2

But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. G4521

Col 2:16-17

Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath G4521 days

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ

The KJV translates Strong's G4521 in the following manner: sabbath day (37x), sabbath (22x), week (9x).
Outline of Biblical Usage [?]
  1. the seventh day of each week which was a sacred festival on which the Israelites were required to abstain from all work
    1. the institution of the sabbath, the law for keeping holy every seventh day of the week
    2. a single sabbath, sabbath day
  2. seven days, a week

Thanks for sharing Billy but nope. ACTS 15 was not about God's 4th commandment Sabbath or any one of God's 10 commandments. The context you are leacing out shows that ACTS 15 is over the question of if "CIRCUMCISION" was a requirement for salvation. Look at the scripture context in ACTS 15:1-2

ACTS 15 AND CIRCUMCISION AS A REQUIREMENT FOR SALVATION UPDATED.

ACTS 15:1:21
[1], And certain men who came down from Judea taught the brethren, and said, EXCEPT YOU BE CIRCUMCISED AFTER THE MANNER OF MOSES YOU CANNOT BE SAVED.

NOTE: ACTS 15:1 is the question that needs to be answered and the topic of conversation and CONTEXT of the chapter of ACTS 15. Here we have Jewish believers coming to Paul and Barnabas saying if the new GENTILES believers are not circumcised and made proselytes then they cannot be saved. This is the chapter context and issue of contention.

[2], When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, THEY DETERMINED THAT PAUL AND BARNABAS AND CERTAIN OF THEM SHOULD GO UP TO JERUSALEM UNTO THE APOSLTLES AND ELDERS ABOUT THIS QUESTION.

NOTE: ACTS 15:2 Which question? Weather your salvation depends on being CIRCUMCISED. They then travelled to Jerusalem about this question to determine if new gentile believers needed to be CIRCUMCISED in order to be saved. Once they got to Jerusalem, the question was then asked and the discussion continued with the Pharasees stating their case first..

[5], But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

NOTE: KEEP in mind here the question was never over if gentile believers should obey God's 10 Commandments but to keep the Shadow laws of Moses, in this case CIRCUMCISION as a means of salvation. CIRCUMCIONS is from the law of MOSES not God’s 10 Commandments written by God on two tables of stone.

[6], And the apostles and elders came together TO CONSIDER THIS MATTER.

NOTE: Again the topic of discussion and chapter CONTEXT that is being considered is the question stated in ACTS 15:1 which was IS CIRCUMCISION A REQUIREMENT OF SALVATION?

[7], And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, you know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.
[8], And God, who knows the hearts, bore them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

NOTE: After much discussion between the Apostles, Peter then rose up showing that God gave the gentile believers the Holy Spirit being UNCIRCUMCISED.

[9], And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
[10], Now therefore why test God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?
[11], But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

NOTE: They came to the conclusion then that salvation is not by being circumcised but be what circumcision pointed to. A new heart by faith. This is made plain latter in other scripture written by PAUL here...

ROMANS 2 [25] For circumcision verily profits, if you keep the law: but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision. [26], Therefore if the uncircumcision keeps the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? [27], And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfils the law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision do transgress the law? [28], FOR HE IS NOT A JEW, WHO IS ONE; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OF THE OUTWARD FLESH: [29], BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; AND CIRCUMCISION IS THAT OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT AND NOT IN THE LETTER; WHOSE PRAISE IS NOT OF MEN BUT OF GOD.

If ACTS 15 was talking about the 10 Commandments then Pauls writings in to the CORITHIANS do not make any sense.

1 CORITHIANS 7 [19] CIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, AND UNCIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, BUT THE KEEPING OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

The scripture above is a contradiction of how some interpret the outcome of ACTS 15. You do not believe, that we are now free to break any of God's 10 Commandments now do you?

[12], Then all the multitude kept silence, and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring what miracles and wonders God had done among the Gentiles by them.
[13], And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me:
[14], Simeon has declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
[15], And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,
[16], After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:
[17], That the rest of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, says the Lord, who does all these things.
[18], Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
[19], THEREFORE MY JUDGMENT IS THAT WE TROUBLE NOT THEM WHO FROM THE GENTILES ARE TURNED TO GOD:
[20], BUT WRITE UNTO THEM THAT THEY ABSTAIN FROM THE DEFILEMENT OF IDOLS, FORNICATION AND THINGS STRANGLED AND FROM BLOOD.

NOTE: JAMES conclusion is that new Gentile believers should not be troubled with CIRCUMCISION as a requirement of salvation which was the matter being considered and the question being discussion as shown in *ACTS 15:1-2; ACTS 15:6 but asks them to abstain from idols, fornication and from things strangled and from blood.

[21], FOR MOSES OF OLD TIME HAS IN EVERY CITY THEM THAT PREACH HIM, BEING READ IN THE SYNAGOGUES EVERY SABBATH.

NOTE: The reason why JAMES sends this letter to the new Gentile believers is that they would continue learning God's WORD EVERY SABBATH.

...............

CONCLUSION So the conclusion of the matter with CONTEXT added back in is fould in v19-20 We are not to trouble the new gentile believers with CIRCUMCISION as a means of salvation. They are new converts that will learn more about GOD'S WORD when? EVERY
SABBATH. In the meantime you should abstain from anything offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication.

NOPE nothing written about the 10 Commandments being abolished in this chapter. Here is what PAUL says of the matter here...

1 CORITHIANS 7 [19] CIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, AND UNCIRCUMCISION IS NOTHING, BUT THE KEEPING OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD.

Yep you may need to revisit your thinking of ACTS 15. CIRCUMCISION is not the 10 Commandments. It is from the Shadow laws of the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT.

Hope this is helpful

Link below
G4521 - sabbaton - Strong's Greek Lexicon (KJV)

Sorry Billy but that is not how the Greek application of word meanings work. The application of word definitions are applied to both the within scripture context and within chapter context to determine subject matter.

What your post is missing here is application to context and subject matter which is to COLOSSIANS 2 and specifically COLOSSIANS 2:16. If you look at the GREEK word Sabbaton's application to COLOSSIANS 2:16 you will see that the GREEK application of this word is to GNP which means it is talking about multiple sabbaths not Sabbaton (sabbath) singular. It is Sabbath plural meaning more then one sabbath. GNP means Genetive Neuter Plural.

The Greek Word for sabbath (sabbaton) can have many applications and meaning depending on the within scripture and chapter context and subject matter to which it is applied.

Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries w/TVM, Strong - G4521

σάββατον; sabbaton. Of Hebrew origin [H7676]; the Sabbath (that is, Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); by extension a se'nnight, that is, the interval between two Sabbaths; likewise the plural in all the above applications: - sabbath (day), week.

Now if you look at the within scripture CONTEXT to COLOSSIANS 2:16...

COLOSSIANS 2:16 [16] Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an HOLYDAY [FEAST DAYS], or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAY[S <plural>:

PAUL'S within scriptures CONTEXT and use of COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 is in reference to the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures also liked here…..

EZEKIEL 45:17 [17] And it shall be the prince's part to give BURNT OFFERINGS, and MEAT OFFERINGS, and DRINK OFFERINGS, in the FEASTS, and in the NEW MOONS, and in the SABBATHS, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.

Hope this is helpful.

25 It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

26 Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth.

28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;

29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Not really Billy. If your trying to teach there is no more 10 commandments then you have no more knowledge of sin which according to Paul is the purpose for God's 10 commandments *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7. This is a contradiction to the teachings of JESUS and all the Apostles and everthing in the new testament scriptures (detailed scripture support linked here click me). Sorry Billy, but the MOSAIC laws in ordinaces like "CIRCUMCISION" are not Gods' 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when we brake them *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7 and Gentile believers are not free to break them.

NOPE nothing written about the 10 Commandments being abolished in this chapter. Here is what PAUL says of the matter here...

Thanks for sharing. Could you help us know which day is the actual Sabbath day as per the God's calendar system and how exactly we can keep it holy as God intended it to be.

Hi Gospels, yep according to God's calander and time it is the SEVENTH DAY (our Saturday) *GENESIS 2:1-3; EXODUS 20:8-11 but God's time is Sunset to Sunset *GENESIS 1. Which makes the Sabbath time our Friday sunset to Saturday sunset.

HOW DO WE KEEP THE SABBATH?

EXODUS 20:8-11
[8], Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
[9], Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
[10], But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY> [11], For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the SEVENTH DAY: wherefore the LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH, and HALLOWED IT.

WHAT DAY IS GOD'S SABBATH?

v10 The SEVENTH DAY of the week.

WHEN DOES THE SEVENTH DAY OF THE WEEK START?

GENESIS 1:4-5
[4], And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
[5], And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

A day in God's time is the night (darkness) and the light make up one day. The DAY in God's WORD starts at SUNSET and ends the following SUNSET. So God's 4th Commandment Sabbath would start Friday at SUNSET and end Saturday at SUNSET.

ALL UNECCESSARY WORK TO BE DONE BEFORE FRIDAY SUNSET

EXODUS 16:22-23
[22], And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
[23], And he said to them, This is that which the LORD has said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath to the LORD: bake that which you will bake to day, and seethe that you will seethe; and that which remains over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

MARK 15:42, And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath

The preparation day is the 6th day of the week. This includes preparing to stop all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week.

IT IS LAWFUL TO DO GOOD ON THE SABBATH?

MATTHEW 12:5-12
[5], Or have you not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
[6], But I say to you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
[7], But if you had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless.
[8], For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day
[9], And when he was departed from there, he went into their synagogue:
[10], And, behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
[11], And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
[12], How much then is a man better than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

MARK 2:27, And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath

It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.

WHAT IS LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

1. Remembering the creator and his creation (Exod 20:8-11)
2. Rest from all unnecessary work (Ecodus 20:10-11)
3. Doing good (Matt 12:12)
4. Prayer (Acts 16:13; Matt 21:13)
5. Worship the creator (Isaiah 58:13-14; Ex 34:14; 1KING 9:6; Rev 14:6-12)

Song, praise, bible study, helping others, preaching the gospel, resting, prayer, seeking God, remembering the creator and his creation. Walking in nature, going to church with like minded believers. (too many scriptures)

WHAT IS NOT LAWFUL ON GOD'S SABBATH?

WORK; all business and secular work as well as any domestic work; cooking, cleaning; shopping, buying and selling that can be done on any other day of the week and anything to do with work (Exodus 20:8-11; Ex 16:22-23; Matt 21:13).

.............

There is no purpose in FOLLOWING any of God's LAWs including the SABBATH if it is NOT done through FAITH that works by LOVE because it is ONLY as GOD writes his LAW to LOVE then we can take up our beds to follow him. LOVE is the fulfilling of GOd's LAW in those who BELIEVE (Rom 13:8-10)

God bless.

We see that Paul included the 10 commandments when he spoke of the law as he included the commandment thou shalt not covet.

Romans 7 King James Version (KJV)
7 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

11
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

What you have presented is pretty well known. The big question is how to "keep the Sabbath holy" in the new covenant church age.

That is true.

The New Covenant Jer 31:31-34 says that God writes "his Law on heart and mind"
see also the same New Covenant statement in Heb 8:6-11

That is the moral law of God (the one that defines what sin is - Romans 3:19) known to Jeremiah and his readers - written on heart and mind.

Isaiah 66:23 says that for all eternity after the cross - in the New Earth "from Sabbath to Sabbath shall all mankind come before Me to worship"

In Christ,

Bob

Thank you. Wherever I'm placed, I work for the Lord and in whatever i do, i do as unto the Lord. If I'm going to office on a Monday it is because that the Lord will use me as a light to bring others to Christ. My primary task in any office is not my business but to be a tool in God's hand as a worker first in His kingdom, for His business. So what if on a Saturday i went to work to be a light among the darkness and draw others to Christ through my work because I love the Lord? Please let me know. Thank you.

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

No doubt that the Law defines what sin is - and declares the lost person to be in need of salvation or else face the second death.

That is the role of the LAW for the lost.

But the role of the law for the saved Rom 3:31 is that "we establish the LAW" because it is "written on heart and mind" Heb 8:6-11

As Paul says "what matters is KEEPING the Commandments of God" 1 Cor 7:19

Christ said "by their fruits you shall know them" Matt 7

True. God will use His faithful obedient saints to spread the good news of the gospel. But if you were to go to work swearing and taking God's name in vain - that would not be "sharing the good news" - because under the NEW Covenant the LAW of God is written on heart and mind Jer 31:31-34.

Rebellion against the Word of God is not "A demonstration of the Gospel" according to Paul in Romans 2:13-16 and according to Christ in Mark 7:6-13

Isaiah 66:23 says that for all eternity after the cross - in the New Earth "from Sabbath to Sabbath shall all mankind come before Me to worship"

that is the experience Christ gives the saints in the Sabbath that was "made for mankind" Mark 2:27 - according to Christ.
