I've been trying to get some information on this, I know part of the attempt to slow things down is to keep a situation like italy where hospitals can't support the sick, but anyone know how the hospital situation is in the states? I can assume some places like new york probably reached max a while ago.

New York is 1-2 weeks away, the rest of the country anywhere from 3 weeks to several months.

Note, this is just my opinion based on current rates around your country, coupled with your testing regimen.

The Harvard Global Health Institute in collaboration with ProPublica and the NY Times & CBS has modelled US hospital bed capacity based on 20%, 40% and 60% infection rates over 6, 12 or 18 months.

The model includes a facility to drill down to local hospital regions.

The maps demonstrate very clearly the impact of "flattening the curve" in reducing the simultaneous demand for hospital beds.

yeah, it's scary how many people don't understand it, seems people think it's about making sure no one gets sick, which is silly of course, best we can so is try to hit herd immunity rather then higher then that, but even that wouldn't be for sure.
