These are temporary measures, as observed in many places around the world currently, to protect people from unnecessarily dying during this pandemic.

Things will return to normal in 8-12 weeks when the worst has passed and health systems can cope with new cases as they occur.

This is nothing to do with politics. This is nothing to do with attacking Jesus or any other religious icon in other countries where the same measures have, are or will be implemented.

If you want to risk killing others because you aren't happy being inconvenienced for a few weeks, well, it paints a pretty clear picture about you I'm afraid.

Good Friday and Easter is major and the entire faith revolves around it, it's not just any celebration. Christmas is common, not Easter.

This disease isn't as virulent like Ebola and other far more deadly diseases are, but it is highly contagious and the concern of the healthcare community is to not overwhelm the hospitals and doctors with too large an influx of patients all at once.

Stop panicking. If people in this free country decide they must do something for themselves or their faith, then it's on them... if you don't think it's right, then stay home.

I do think people are confused with what the goal is... the goal isn't to necessarily to prevent the spread, the goal is to control it so the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed...

No, its not 'on them'. It's a pandemic, if you get the virus then you're not just risking your own safety, you're risking the safety of all the people around you. Even touching a door handle could leave contamination that passes onto another unsuspecting person. It's not freedom, its selfishness.

As for Easter, if you really think Jesus would care more about an annual festival of remembrance than about actually caring for sick and vulnerable people, then you must have read a very different bible to me.

Stop panicking. If people in this free country decide they must do something for themselves or their faith, then it's on them... if you don't think it's right, then stay home.

This is not right. It is highly embarrassing to me, as a Christian, that, in this thread and others, we have several Christians who appear to think it is OK for them to go out unnecessarily into social settings while the majority of atheists are promoting responsible, community-minded behavour.

The argument of my fellow Christians, absurd though it obviously is, is that other people can 'stay home'.

Here are at least two obvious problems with this:

1. Even if it were realistic to expect the rest of us to barricade ourselves in our homes and never venture out for necessities, it is deeply inconsiderate to effectively force us to do so because you (the Christians I am referring to) want to go out.

2. It is practically impossible for many people to 'stay home' all the time - we need food and medicine! And as we venture out, we may well cross paths with you - the person who is exercising their 'right' to go out and socialize with others.

It is not 'on them' - it is on all of us.
